Chapter 2 He is Hurt
ELARA
Jake stepped back from Lucian in fear and quickly joined the rest. My eyes stayed on him for a few seconds before I eventually made my way upstairs and all the ghosts followed me in fear.
“He saw me.” Jake said and others gasped in shock.
“He sees us,” Diana said in excitement.
“I thought it was only Miss Elara who could see us?” Another ghost added.
“Maybe he wasn't talking to you.” Another one said and the truth is, I can't really blame them. I'm shocked too.
“Lucian” I whispered his name again in my head and I don't know why I seem to have heard the name somewhere before. If he is indeed a Necromancer then maybe I am someone like him. Should I make more findings and find out who he is.
“It's good that he can see us. Can't you see how handsome he looks? Maybe he can be my friend.” One of the ghosts said and I wanted to laugh because they all sounded so funny. Her name is Vivian and she helped me in the kitchen sometimes.
I continued walking until we got to a room and I began to clean while they helped with arranging.
“Have you ever seen a human marrying a ghost?” Diana said.
“Then I can be the first. I don't think I had a husband when I was alive. “ Maureen replied and I rolled my eyes.
I thought they were scared of him just a minute ago and now they are suddenly happy because another man could see them.
“I think Miss Elara should be the one we should ask if she likes the man. I heard one of the customers said he is capable of wielding spirit. I hope he doesnt chase us away” Diana said and my quickly turn to face them with as smile.
“I didn't like him and I can't let him to chase you all away until I find your families” I told them and they nodded in relief.
“But he looked hurt. He looked like someone who was about to die.” Jake said and my hand froze mid air.
“What?” I asked in shock before realising I was actually overreacting.
I cleared my throat, avoiding their gaze as they looked at me with confusion in their eyes. I have questions to ask him so I can't let him die.
“What do you mean?” I asked calmly this time.
“I could smell blood on him. Maybe he was injured.” Jake said and I heaved a sigh of relief.
It will be a shame if the handsome young man ends up dead in my inn. I don't have money to settle a death case at the magistrate's office.
“Oh. That doesn't mean he is going to die. I believe if they need a physician, they will let us know.” I said and scanned the room for anything I might have missed.
I went back to the dining hall and most of the guests are already making their way inside their assigned room. I met Lucian and the man who was with him.
“Your room is ready now.” I told them and Lucian stood up. His eyes lingered on mine for a while before he finally headed for the stairs. I quickly closed the door and locked it. The night watchman passed by, announcing the time.
“Eleven o’clock and all is well! Lock your doors, put out your candles, and stay inside. No one should be found outside” the Watchman announced.
I was about to make my way towards my room when the man who came with the handsome man suddenly rushed down the stairs, his eyes filled with panic.
“I need hot water please.” He said and I could sense the panic in his tone.
“Okay, let me get another one ready. We have some but they might be a bit cold now.” I said and quickly walked behind me as I headed towards the kitchen.
“Please, bring it. It's urgent.” He said and I gave him the kettle.
“Thank you.” He murmured before leaving hurriedly. Two minutes later, he came back.
“Can I get a white bandage cloth from you?”
Now, I can tell that Lucian is indeed injured and I a. curious to know what went wrong. They didn't call for a physician, which means it might not be serious but I saw that there was blood on the sleeve of the man in front of me.
I cannot allow someone to die in the inn. Not when I still need to found out more about my ability.
“Do you want me to offer some help? I know a bit about medicine.” I offered instead and the man gave me a sceptical look.
“You do?” He asked and I replied.
“Yes.”
“Please follow me,” he said.
“Let me get my medicine box,” I told him and he gave me the go-ahead. I quickly went inside my room to pick the box. My late father studied medicine and acupuncture and I inherited all these skills from him. I ignored my ghost friend's question about where I was suddenly heading in the middle of the night.
They will find out sooner or later. I carried the medicine box and followed the man upstairs. When I got to the room, I could smell the blood from the entrance
Lucian was lying in the bed with his eyes closed. Even though he was sleeping, he looked so attractive that I almost forgot the reason I came here.
I dropped the medicine box on the table and tried to examine the wound. It was around his stomach and I thought the man was just cleaning the blood with the towel he found in the room after soaking it in cold water.
“I opened the box and took out the scissors. I will need to get rid of his shirt first.” I said and the man gave me a go-ahead.
I cut his shirt open, exposing his broad chest. I don't think I have never seen a man naked except him and I don't know why my heart is suddenly racing.
“Is it very bad?” the man asked and I shook my head.
I examined the wound and realised he was actually stabbed with a very sharp object, like a knife.
“No. The wound is very deep but the bleeding has stopped now. I will need to suture it after applying the medicine.” I told him and he sighed deeply.
“Thank you so much for your help, miss. I am Calhoun and this is my boss, Lucian. We are both travellers” He said and I couldn't help at Lucian.
So his name is indeed Lucian and I might be the only one who didn't know about him. And now, this man said they are travellers which I find hard to believe.
“I'm Elara, the owner of White Hart Inn,” I replied after applying the medicine. I sutured the wound and packed my tools back inside the box.
“Make sure you soak the towel in cold water before placing it on his forehead. He will wake up in the next few hours.” I told Calhoun before leaving the room.
The moment I stepped out, my ghost friends were already waiting for me outside the room.
“Is he okay now?” Diana asked.
“Yes,” I replied.
“Did you see how handsome he is?” One of them asked as we headed down.
“Is he very handsome like Vivian said? It was dark when he came in and I didn't have the chance to take a better look at him.”
“You will see him tomorrow when he is leaving. I need to sleep now.” I told them before disappearing into my room.
