Chapter 9 Chapter 9: Poor Eyesight

Luna slept restlessly, feeling as though someone was staring at her.

Feeling uneasy, she opened her eyes and saw a pair of eyes filled with gentle affection.

She froze, blinking rapidly before squinting again.

“What are you staring at?” she muttered as her vision cleared.

“You,” Theodore replied, smiling.

“What? You just realised I’m pretty?” she deadpanned.

“Mm. I just realised you’re beautiful,” he said with a straight nod.

She stared at him in disbelief.

Does he have some kind of mental disorder?

“Before,” he continued, “I thought there was something wrong with your eyes. That’s why I assumed you looked… average. Turns out your eyes are fine. Actually, they’re quite nice.”

Luna frowned. “What on earth are you talking about? What’s supposedly wrong with my eyes?”

“Something was off,” he insisted earnestly. “But they’re fine now.”

“Dinner’s ready,” he added abruptly.

Her stomach growled and she rose.

Then she followed Theodore downstairs for dinner.

After lunch, she returned to her room to do her makeup. She planned to head to the company.

As she reached the ground floor, Ava called out, “Luna, heading out?”

Luna nodded. “Yes.”

“Luna, may I speak with you?” Ava asked.

“Of course.”

“Let’s talk in the garden,” Ava suggested with a polite smile.

“All right.”

As they walked into the garden, Ava took Luna’s arm and began, “Luna, I know Noah wronged you.”

“Mhm.” Luna nodded. “Everyone knows that.”

Ava faltered. The old Luna used to read people so well, conversations were effortless—

But now…

“Luna, don’t blame Noah. It was Emma—that woman—who seduced him,” Ava said through gritted teeth.

Luna stared at her.

So your son is completely blameless?

“Ava,” Luna said calmly, meeting her gaze, “that’s not quite right. If Noah didn’t already have those thoughts, even if Emma stood naked in front of him, he wouldn’t have moved an inch.”

Ava seethed internally.

“Luna, I know you’re angry. I’m his mother—no one knows him better than I do. He’s merely been bewitched for the moment. Give him time. He’ll come to his senses and return to you,” Ava said with a strained smile.

“So you expect me to wait for Noah forever?” Luna asked bluntly.

“Yes,” Ava said without hesitation.

Luna let out a laugh. “Sure. But you’d better check with my husband first—see if he’s willing.”

Ava: “…”

Your husband? Theodore?

“If Theodore gives his blessing, I’d gladly wait for Noah—forever,” Luna added sweetly.

Ava’s smile froze; her expression chilled as she stared at Luna.

She knew she was being mocked.

“Anything else, Ava? I should get going,” Luna said coolly.

Ignoring Ava’s expression, Luna turned away.

As she walked off, she sneered inwardly —

a sordid mother, a foolish son.
