Chapter 7
Brianna
Colton took my hand and caressed it gently before raising my jaw again in order for our eyes to meet.
He pressed his lips against mine, giving me more choice but to give in.
For a moment, I felt lost in his arms; I allowed him to take the lead because I was naive to these kinds of things.
He slid his hand into my dress with his lips still pressed on mine.
His tongue found a way into my mouth, and slowly our tongues started a dance.
He helped me take off my clothes before gently pushing me to the bed, and then he slid down my underwear and thrust his third leg into me.
....
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Without even giving the person the go ahead to speak or say a word, he said from the door,
"Alpha Colton. There's an attack... The Shadow fang has launched their attack earlier than expected. Someone must have snitched, and now, they're on their way to the castle and might be here in an hour," he informed.
"I'll be out shortly," Colton said, letting go of my body.
Quickly, he walked over to the vanity. On the chair there, he had a coat hanged on top of it.
Quickly, he reached for it and walked towards me before wrapping the coat around my shoulders.
"Are you okay?" He asked, probably noticing the way my hand was shaking.
I swallowed hard with quite a lot to say, but I bit my lips and forced them shut.
I didn't want to say much, and most especially, I didn't want to provoke him.
Although I know I have signed a contract with it that guarantees my safety. I had a feeling that it was only temporary. If I happen to irritate him now, he will get upset and dig my grave.
I took a step and held his hand while he led me to the bed.
On getting to the bedside, I accidentally hit my leg on the bedframe, causing me to flinch, and as quickly as I made a flinching sound, he held me and murmured, "Be careful." You don't get injured, which doesn't mean you have to be careless..."
Did he just show an atom of care for me? I blushed but shook my head immediately. There was no way a person like Alpha Colton would care for me if he didn't have a motive.
It's only because he wants me as an asset, and if there's something I learned from my dad about alphas and wealthy men who know the value of power. It was the fact that they protect their asset at all cost, especially if it's the kind of asset that no one else has or the kind that probably just a few people have.
He caressed my hand gently and teased, "You don't want to let go of my hand, right? The Shadow Fang is a dangerous team, and trust me, they want your father dead."
His voice made my heart skip.
Quickly, I let go of his hand so he could do what was more important. He kissed my forehead and left the room, asking me to wait here for his return.
After he left, I walked over to the door and locked it, scared.
This was not the first time that I had experienced a war, and I just couldn't get used to the feeling.
The way my heart would pound against my chest each time was terrifying.
I was scared that I would lose my family because, give or take, I know I'm not my father's favorite daughter, but if anything should happen to him in a year that involves this park losing, my family would either be killed or be turned to slaves.
I walked over to the window. Everyone was running here and there, trying to find shelter before the shadow fang arrives at our park.
Quickly, I leaned on the wall with one side of my body. The curtain was covering my back while I just stared silently.
My mind darted to the ring on my finger. My father was not the only man I was scared for; now, my mate was going to that war too. Although people call him the war dog, I still couldn't shake off the feeling of the terrible things that happen in a war.
Suddenly, there was a knock on my door, one that pulled me out of my thoughts.
"I'm here to serve you some soothing tea, ma'am." The maiden said from the door after realizing that the door was locked.
I was still stained with blood, so I quickly got changed into something else before walking over to the door to get it opened.
She looked new and had a petite figure. "I haven't seen you here before. Have you served me tea before, or are you my sister's maid?" I inquired, pointing out, out of curiosity.
"I don't work here, ma'am. I'm part of the maidens that came here with Alpha Colton, and he has instructed us to take good care of you," she informed, causing my face to turn red again.
He's a murderer! He's a murderer! I tried repeating these words in my head because why the hell was I growing feelings for him? Usually, I believe that it's in a man's nature to be protective, but now, I was letting it get into my head.
"Where should I leave the tea, ma'am?" She inquired, and I pointed to the vanity.
She walked over there and placed it on the table before bowing in respect. "I'll advise that you take the tea while it's hot; it tastes better," she informed.
Quickly, I proceeded to the table where she left the tea. I picked it up and smiled at her, noticing that she was watching me keenly.
I drew the tea closer to my mouth when a strange scent hit my nose.
"Poison..." I murmured under my breath. The scent of the poison was masked under the floral scent of the tea. Immediately I raised my gaze and noticed the smile on the maiden's face disappeared—without being told, I reckoned that something was wrong.
