Chapter 1 Mommy, Take Me Home
Five years ago, in a private clinic...
"The patient is in a coma because of difficult labor! Now we have to give her a C-section, but her life will be in danger."
"That doesn't matter. But no matter what, you have to keep the child safe!"
Half an hour later, a cry came from the operating room.
A nurse came out with a baby in her arms and said, "It's a boy."
The woman looked at the child in her arms, curving up her lips into a sneer.
Taking a glance at the unconscious woman in the operating room, she took the child
from the nurse and turned to leave...
"Twana, my silly best friend, thank you very much."
After a day's work, Twana Murray went to the market and bought some food. She then rode home on her bicycle, humming a tune in a good mood.
When she passed a corner, a little bun suddenly ran out, which brought Twana to an urgent halt.
The bicycle stopped when its front wheel was just 0.4 inch away from the little bun.
Taken aback by the sudden appearance of the bicycle, the little bun collapsed onto the ground.
Twana took a quick glimpse and found out that it was a boy of around four years old.
The little boy looked like a delicate porcelain doll with a face full of baby fat. From his clothes and temperament, Twana could tell he was from a rich family.
Twana immediately got off the bicycle and walked over to the little boy. Squatting down, she asked with concern, "Kiddo, are you okay?"
Seeing some people approach who were looking for him, the quick-witted boy immediately threw himself into Twana's arms.
"Mommy! So you're finally here to pick me up?"
"Huh?"
Twana froze on the spot. What was going on?
"Have you seen Alex?"
"No."
"Let's go there and have a look!"
With that, several figures quickly left.
Twana returned to her senses. "Kiddo, did you mistake me for someone else? I'm not your mommy! Well... If you're all right, I'm leaving."
After saying that, Twana got up and was about to leave.
However, the little boy was still clinging to her thigh.
"Mommy, take me home with you!"
"Is this some kind of a new blackmail scam?" Twana thought in confusion.
"Kiddo, there must be some misunderstanding. I'm really not your mommy!"
"Boohoo... My mommy doesn't want me anymore! Mommy, I'll be good. Please don't leave me alone! Although Daddy is a scumbag and he left with an auntie, I'm innocent!" Wrapping his arms around Twana's leg, the little boy cried miserably.
At this time, passers-by started gathering around.
A middle-aged woman couldn't help but say, "Sweetie, even if your husband did something wrong, the child is innocent. You'd better bring him home and take good care of him."
Twana felt so helpless. "Auntie, please don't get me wrong. He's really not my child!"
She was only 23 years old. How could she have such a big child!
"My girl, do you think we're blind? This boy looks so much like you. I can tell at a glance that he's your birth child!"
"Auntie, you must be seeing things. What makes you think this child..."
When Twana lowered her head and looked at the boy hugging her leg and looking at her with a pitiful look, the rest of her words stuck in her throat.
"..."
"Holy sh*t!"
She didn't notice it in the beginning, but after taking another look at the boy, she was struck dumbfounded.
The boy... did look somewhat like her, especially his dark, shining, big eyes!
Moreover, the lips of both of them were naturally curved up, like those of a cat...
Obviously, it would be hard for Twana to explain herself.
The passers-by discussed it in a low voice while looking at Twana from time to time, as if she were a vicious mother who was trying to abandon her birth child.
Having no choice, Twana took the child home.
Twana rented a private -owned house in an urban village in Slington. The conditions were not good, but the rent was very cheap.
She opened the door and said to the child, "Wait for me in the room. I'll go lock the bicycle."
The little boy walked in, sat down on the sofa, and looked around.
He could see the whole picture of the house at a single glance. There were only a few simple pieces of furniture inside, and the walls were beginning to peel. But it was kind of clean and tidy.
Although the room was a little shabby, he could make do with it.
...
After locking up her bicycle, Twana went into the room as well.
"Kiddo, can't you find your mommy? How about I call the police and ask them to find her for you?"
Twana squatted down in front of the little boy and asked softly.
However, the child, who had looked so pitiful a moment ago, turned into a little bully in a second.
With his arms crossed in front of his chest like an adult, this boy started threatening Twana.
"If you call the police, I'll tell them you're a human trafficker, and you hit me with your bicycle and kidnapped me! I'm a child, so the adults will definitely choose to believe me. If you let me stay here, I won't speak ill of you in front of them."
Twana froze on the spot.
Was she... being played by a child?
"Kiddo, what the hell do you want?"
"I'm running away from home! This is the 5th time I've run away from home this month!"
"What?"
But today was only the 8th day of the month! How could he call this running away from home? Did the child even know what running away from home meant?
"Then why do you want to stay in my house?" Twana asked helplessly.
"If I stay in a hotel, Daddy will definitely find me soon. Your place is so shabby, so he won't think I'm here. Don't worry, when I find my mommy, I'll go back."
How could Twana not be worried?
However, from what he said, she could tell that the child's father must be a very powerful person, so he should be able to find him soon.
If she called the police, this little devil was very likely to accuse her of child trafficking, which would probably lead to her being thrown in jail.
She really wanted to throw the child out, but he was too young, and what if he really met a human trafficker?
"I'd better wait for his father to come and explain it to him," she thought.
Twana let out a long sigh. How hapless she was!
