Chapter 1
Five years after breaking the mate bond, Vincent had become one of the youngest Alphas of the North.
He now had a fiancée — the daughter of the Silver Claw Pack’s Alpha.
As for me, I had long since vanished from his life, even my name missing from the annual forest hunting competition I used to participate in.
The day the competition schedule was announced, the internet was flooded with excitement about Vincent.
In the past, I would have joined in, posting my praise for him on social media.
Now, I couldn’t touch any devices. All I could do was watch their chatter passively.
Because I was already dead.
The competition began, and the participants took their places. I watched coldly. But when Vincent entered, I couldn’t help but feel a stirring in my heart. My eyes instinctively locked onto him — his muscular frame, his short golden hair.
That powerful Alpha presence — even in my soul state, I could feel it.
He was my former husband, Vincent.
I couldn’t look away.
But the next moment, a beautiful woman entered — Vincent’s fiancée.
She walked over, naturally linking her arm with his.
"Vincent, are these all your friends?"
At that instant, my heart dropped like a roller coaster.
Someone approached Vincent to chat, trying to get closer.
After all, Vincent was no longer the poor boy he once was when he was with me.
Now, he was one of the most sought-after Alphas in the wolf world.
Suddenly, someone holding the competition roster asked:
"Why isn’t Chloe here?"
“She hasn’t attended in five years.”
"Could she have climbed to some man and become his Luna?"
They laughed, guessing.
At that moment, Samuel, who had been warming up by the side, snorted and walked over.
"Her? Become a Luna?"
"She’s more likely just an Alpha’s mistress."
Everyone's eyes turned, waiting for the drama.
"Have you seen her in these past five years?"
Samuel sighed, sneering, "Of course, she’s working as a bar hostess at Midnight Howl Bar."
The air froze for a second.
Someone couldn’t help but laugh.
"That's definitely a place where she can get close to men."
"Wasn’t she always in the forest hunting competition to meet men?"
"I’ll have to visit and see how her business is going."
As those words hit the air, I instinctively looked at Vincent. He was silent.
I scoffed. As expected, he was just like before.
He easily believed the rumors about me. He never knew that I entered the competition to help my sister who had heart disease, because the prize money was generous.
He gripped the armrest of his chair tightly. The veins on his hand were visible. Daniel, his best friend, immediately noticed his change and interrupted their conversation.
He patted Vincent’s shoulder. "There are plenty of women, Vincent."
Vincent didn’t move, staring blankly at the knife in his hand.
I thought, he must be resenting me. The former mate now turned into the infamous bar hostess.
His fiancée looked worriedly at him.
Thankfully, not long after, Vincent came back to his senses.
He lifted his head, just as confident as years ago. "I don’t know her."
He then slammed his hand on the table and stood up.
"I have good news for everyone. Olivia and I are holding the mate ceremony next week."
"I’m also participating in this competition to win a championship for her."
Instantly, everyone crowded around, all excited.
But there I was, standing next to Vincent, watching him with affection.
I watched Vincent completely remove me from his life.
If only he knew... I wasn’t a bar hostess to get close to men, but to earn money for our daughter’s medical treatment.
If only he knew... I had already died.
Could he still say — "I don’t know her"?
