Chapter 10
Rebecca's lips curved slightly, "Thank you, Natalie, for always being there when I need you most."
"Please, We both know if I were a man, you'd be mine. William who?" Natalie was always playful. Rebecca poked her in the waist, "If you were a guy, you'd be a heartbreaker for sure."
The two joked around, and Natalie rested her hand on her shoulder. Accidentally, she pulled down the towel a bit and saw the dark red marks on Rebecca's neck. Her big eyes blinked.
"What's wrong?" Rebecca noticed she'd gone quiet, then realized what she was looking at and instinctively pulled her bathrobe back up.
"Rebecca! What's this?"
As soon as Natalie shouted, Rebecca covered her mouth, "Why are you yelling? It's just a mosquito bite."
Natalie lightly bit Rebecca's hand to free her mouth, then pointed at her, "You think I'm naive and easy to fool? You call that a mosquito bite?"
Rebecca's eyes shifted away, and she unconsciously cleared her throat.
"Who is it? I was wondering why you suddenly changed. Are you having an affair?"
"Don't talk nonsense!"
Rebecca quickly denied it.
"Look at you! Is it Mr. Whitaker, the one who walked you to your room!"
"Natalie, can you please not get excited? It really didn't go that far!"
Rebecca covered her face, feeling quite desperate inside, "I drank too much earlier and got a bit carried away, but believe me, that was as far as it went. Nothing else happened."
"Nothing happened?"
Natalie still looked unconvinced. Rebecca raised her hand, "I swear, things got a bit heated, but that was as far as it went. Nothing more."
"It went that far and still nothing happened? Is he not capable?"
Rebecca's eyes widened at Natalie's muttering, "Is that the point?"
Natalie actually looked regretful, "You're still too conservative! I told you, unleash your charm. William gets to cheat while but you have to take care of the family? We're all human, everyone has needs! If he can't satisfy you, what's wrong with finding another man!"
Natalie had always been open-minded.
But Rebecca actually agreed, believing men and women should be equal, and women shouldn't be ashamed to express their desires.
"So what does Mr. Whitaker look like? How old is he? The owner of Zenith, his background must be pretty good. Maybe not as prominent as the Spencer famil, but..."
"Okay, okay, please, Natalie, it was just an accident. Let's not talk about this anymore."
The shower had sobered her up quite a bit, and what happened earlier now seemed ridiculous, but Natalie's words suddenly made it feel romantic again.
That night, Rebecca and Natalie talked about many things and slept at the hotel, each going home the next day.
At noon, at the Spencer Family home.
As soon as Rebecca walked in, she was shocked by the scene before her. There was someone in the house who absolutely shouldn't be there.
"Rebecca, you're back. I'm sorry about what happened last night with William—"
"What's the meaning of this?"
Rebecca didn't listen to Celeste's fake words and walked straight to William, asking.
William put down his work and stood up, "Where were you last night? I called you, why didn't you answer?"
"Answer me, what's the meaning of this? Why is she here?"
"Mom, I invited Celeste to stay at our house." Oliver's small figure emerged from behind the sofa. He looked up with his cute face, but his words cut her heart like a knife.
"Why?"
"Because Celeste's health is really poor, and the doctor said that if she stays in a good mood, her condition might improve."
"I'm asking you why you let her come to our house!"
Rebecca couldn't control herself and raised her voice.
Oliver flinched and pressed his lips together, "Because Celeste said that being with me makes her very happy—"
"So if Celeste said she wants to be your mom, and if she becomes your mom her illness will get better, would you agree to that too?"
"Mom—"
Oliver was stunned.
But William's expression changed, "Rebecca, Oliver is a child. Do you know what you're saying to a child?"
"If you don't want to drag Oliver into this, you shouldn't have let her come to our house. William, are you deliberately trying to disgust me?"
William frowned. He grabbed her hand, "Come with me to the study."
Rebecca practically used all her strength to shake off his hand, "Between us, there's nothing that needs to be said in private."
"Rebecca, you promised me yesterday."
William frowned, "You promised me."
"What did I promise you?" Rebecca's lips curved, "William, do you want to carry on an affair right under my nose?"
"Rebecca!"
"Sorry, William, I really don't remember what I promised you yesterday, and you should also forget what you promised me yesterday."
"Mom, why are you so angry? Celeste is just staying at our house for a while. You're overreacting."
"Oh, I get it now, Mom, are you worried that if I only care about Celeste, I won't care about you anymore?"
Oliver seemed completely unaware of how serious things were and was still joking around.
Rebecca didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She looked at Oliver, then at William, and murmured, "You really did inherit from your dad."
"Rebecca, stop making a scene. Celeste coming to the house—I sent you a message. Didn't you see it?"
"Don't call me that."
Rebecca looked up, staring at William, "Now, I'm giving you a choice. In this house, if Celeste stays, I leave. Keep me or keep Celeste."
Oliver's eyes widened, "Mom, what does that mean? Why can't you and Celeste both stay at home? I don't want to choose."
Rebecca crouched down to Oliver's eye level and said word by word,
"Because people can't be too greedy. You can't have everything. There's no such good deal in this world. Oliver, remember this forever."
"Mom—"
"Rebecca, do you have to do this?"
William looked completely annoyed.
"I'll leave. It's my fault. William, before I came, I said I should get Rebecca's permission, but you insisted that this is your house and that you make the decisions. Now Rebecca is unhappy—"
Rebecca looked at William coldly, "Who are you choosing, William?"
