Chapter 6: "I'm Not Klaus's Wife"

Emma's POV

Sally didn't give me any room to resist and hung up directly.

Listening to the busy tone from my phone, my hands and feet turned ice cold.

The hospital again.

In Sally's eyes, my body that couldn't conceive was just a tool that needed constant repair.

But now, I absolutely couldn't let Sally know I was pregnant.

To get more benefits from Klaus, she would use me and the baby as bargaining chips without hesitation.

When that happened, the terrifying scene from my nightmare would become reality.

"Daisy, what should I do? She's taking me to the hospital tomorrow. How can I possibly fool her?"

"Don't panic, Emma."

"Tomorrow, just tell her to come directly to my hospital."

I was still worried. "Sally's not stupid. Once the test results come out, she'll know everything."

"Don't worry, as long as we're at the hospital, leave everything to me. I'll arrange everything in advance and make sure she finds nothing."

The next day, following Daisy's instructions, I arrived at the hospital early.

Daisy had specifically switched shifts.

"Sit and rest for a bit. I'll go make arrangements."

She handed me a glass of warm water, then hurried out.

I sat alone in the examination room, so nervous my palms were sweating, constantly checking the time.

The closer it got to my appointment with Sally, the faster my heart pounded.

Before long, the room door was pushed open with a bang.

Sally walked in on her high heels.

As soon as she entered, she impatiently ordered, "What are you still sitting there for? Hurry up and come do the examination with me!"

I stood up, forcing myself to stay calm, and said what Daisy had taught me.

"Mom, don't worry. Daisy just took me for the examination. The report will be out soon."

Sally narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Really?"

Her tone was full of distrust. "You and Daisy have a good relationship, but you can't let her help you deceive me about this."

"Of course not," I said, bracing myself. "Daisy is a professional doctor, she..."

"Mrs. Thorne, Emma's report is ready."

Daisy walked in holding a report, interrupting our conversation.

She wore a professional smile and handed the report to me.

Sally snatched the report from my hands and eagerly looked it over.

There weren't many patients here for gynecological examinations today, so Daisy had found a report from a female patient whose physical indicators were all very healthy but who also wasn't pregnant, and replaced the name with mine.

Sally held the report, examining it carefully several times, but her brow furrowed tighter and tighter.

She muttered to herself. "The report shows everything is normal with your body, no problems at all."

She paused, her tone becoming even more dissatisfied.

"If there's no problem, then why can't you get pregnant!"

"Mrs. Thorne." Daisy came to my rescue.

"As you can see, Emma's examination report shows no problems at all, which means she's very healthy."

"Pregnancy sometimes requires the right timing. You can't rush it. The more pressure you put on her, the more nervous she becomes, which actually makes it harder to conceive."

I quickly chimed in. "Daisy's right, Mom. You've seen the report. There really are no problems. There are still many patients waiting outside. Let's go so we don't delay Daisy's work."

Sally glared at me with displeasure, snorted coldly, and turned to walk out of the examination room.

I let out a long breath of relief.

"Thank you, Daisy."

I shot her a grateful look.

We left the examination room and had just reached the corridor when a large crowd suddenly surged from somewhere, blocking the entire hallway.

"Quick! Over there! Mr. Klaus and Miss Nancy are over there!"

Someone in the crowd shouted.

Before I could react, I was pushed forward by the surging crowd and instantly separated from Sally.

I was jostled about, barely managing to steady myself by holding onto the wall.

Just then, I saw at the end of the corridor, outside the VIP room door, a figure that made my heart stop.

It was Klaus.

He wore casual clothes, his tall frame particularly striking in the crowd.

Nancy, wearing a mask and hat, was tightly held in Klaus's embrace.

Around them were numerous reporters, flashbulbs constantly going off.

"Mr. Campbell! Why are you accompanying Miss Nancy to the hospital? Is it because she's pregnant?"

One reporter desperately thrust a microphone forward.

"Mr. Campbell, are you and Miss Nancy dating? When are you getting married?"

"Miss Nancy, are you feeling unwell? There are rumors that you're carrying a Campbell family child. Is it true?"

The barrage of questions stabbed sharply into my ears.

"Shut up!" Klaus finally lost his patience, letting out a low, angry roar.

The Alpha's commanding presence made everything instantly quiet.

His eyes swept coldly over each reporter. "This is none of your business! Get out of my way!"

Squeezed into a corner by the crowd, I listened to Klaus's protective tone, my heart filled with sadness and irony.

My husband was accompanying another woman to the hospital, and reporters were speculating that woman was pregnant with his child.

And I, his actual wife, was hiding in this dark corner like a thief.

I lowered my head, covering my face with my hands, desperately trying to push through the crowd and escape this suffocating place.

Just then, a reporter's camera suddenly pointed at me.

"Wait! Are you... Emma?"

The reporter held up his camera, uncertainly calling out my name.

"I remember you! You seem to be Mr. Campbell's wife!"

My entire body froze, my blood turning to ice.

Klaus and I were married without a wedding ceremony, and very few people knew about our relationship.

I didn't know how this reporter recognized me.

I immediately buried my face deeper and turned to run, but it was too late.

"Miss Emma?"

"Is Mr. Campbell married?"

"Who is Emma? Are you his wife?"

"Then what's Nancy's relationship with Mr. Campbell? Are they having an affair?"

All the reporters' cameras instantly turned, aimed squarely at me.

In my ears, it was like a hundred thunderclaps exploding at once, countless questions flooding toward me.

Nancy, hearing these words, trembled and hid in Klaus's embrace, appearing wronged.

Her shoulders shook slightly as she let out a suppressed sob.

"I didn't... Klaus and I aren't having an affair..."

Klaus's gaze pierced through the crowded throng and fixed on me, his eyes full of warning.

If I dared reveal the truth here, he definitely wouldn't let me off.

Enormous fear engulfed me.

I frantically shook my head, and facing those incessantly flashing lights, I desperately denied it.

"No! I'm not Klaus's wife!"
