Chapter 10
Julian stood there, looking sharp in a deep gray suit that was casual yet sophisticated. He had that kind of presence that made you stop and take notice—handsome features, graceful movements, like he was crafted by God himself.
He glanced over at Louisa, just a quick look.
She caught his eye, and suddenly, everything from last night came rushing back. The guy who helped her out at Dreamscape Club? It was him.
She remembered those eyes—calm, steady, like a clear spring. They made her feel safe somehow.
She'd puked on him later, and instead of flipping out, he'd taken her to the hospital and covered all the bills. A true gentleman.
She never thought he'd be the guy she was interviewing with today.
Flora noticed Louisa spacing out and nudged her, whispering, "I know Mr. Tudor's easy on the eyes, but don't stare like that. He's not into women with hidden agendas. Keep it cool.
"And just so you know, I'm not tight with him, so if you mess up, you're on your own. Make a good impression."
Louisa frowned a bit but kept quiet. It wasn't his looks that had her distracted; she just hadn't expected her rescuer to be him.
While she was figuring out how to thank him, Flora was already dragging her over.
Flora smiled at Julian and Wallace, saying, "Mr. Tudor, Mr. Morgan, hey. This is my friend, Louisa Forbes. Thought she'd like to meet Mr. Tudor in person."
Julian raised an eyebrow, his gaze flicking to Louisa, taking in her long legs for a split second before he looked away, saying just, "Okay."
His cool tone caught Louisa off guard. Maybe he didn't remember last night. Why would he? She'd been a mess, and it was probably just another night for him.
Wallace, on the other hand, was all smiles. He threw an arm around Flora like they were old pals, checking Louisa out with a grin, "Ms. Forbes, looking good! How do you keep getting prettier?"
Since the Morgan Group and the Capulet Group worked together, they knew each other.
Louisa gave a polite smile. "Mr. Morgan, you're too kind."
Wallace was about to keep chatting when Julian tossed him a pool cue.
"Your turn."
Julian headed to the lounge area, and Louisa realized she hadn't thanked him yet. She followed him, not noticing how close she was.
He stopped suddenly.
Unable to halt her steps in time, her cheek bumped against his shoulder.
Julian turned to her, his voice usually deep and cool, now carrying a hint of amusement, "You don't watch where you're going, do you?"
Louisa felt a wave of embarrassment and quickly replied, "Sorry!"
Julian didn't say anything else.
His assistant, Teddy Young, stepped forward and handed him a neatly folded wet towel. Julian took it and wiped his hands, his movements precise and deliberate.
Louisa watched him, fascinated by those well-defined hands working the towel. Men like him, with emotions so well-hidden, were rare. His face gave nothing away.
She blurted out, "Mr. Tudor, can I add you on WhatsApp?"
Julian paused, raising an eyebrow. Then he handed the towel back to Teddy, looked at her, and said calmly, "You came here just to add me on WhatsApp?"
Louisa suddenly remembered that this big shot never had any scandals and was known for keeping women at arm's length.
She immediately stepped back a couple of steps, putting some distance between them, her tone equally calm, "Mr. Tudor, you misunderstood. I just found out today that you were the one who helped me last night. I wanted to add you on WhatsApp to repay you for the medical bills and the clothes. I'll definitely repay your kindness. As for why I'm here,"
She looked up at him and continued, "I did come for you. I want to apply for the position of your secretary."
Julian wasn't surprised, as if he had already anticipated her intentions. His gaze lingered on her strikingly beautiful face, and after a moment, he simply said, "You're not suitable."
Louisa had expected that getting into the Tudor Group wouldn't be easy. She wasn't desperate to get in, though.
She nodded coolly. "Sorry to bother you, goodbye."
Without another word, she turned to leave.
Unexpectedly, after taking just two steps, his voice came from behind, "Weren't you going to add me on WhatsApp?"
Louisa realized she had forgotten about repaying him. She awkwardly looked back at him, seeing he had already pulled out his phone and brought up the QR code.
She instinctively walked over, scanned his code, and added him, completely unaware of his gaze fixed on her.
But someone passing by did notice, glancing over at them.
It was George.
He happened to be there with friends for a game and saw the woman standing face-to-face with Julian. He had only glanced casually, but the more he looked, the more that back seemed like Louisa.
And when she lowered her head, he caught a glimpse of that stunningly familiar profile.
It really was her? Didn't she say she was out shopping with friends? Why was she here with a man? Did she lie to him?
With that thought, George's face darkened, and he strode over to them.
