Chapter 5

Cassian looked down at his phone, pulling down the refresh bar again and again. Yet the more he refreshed it, the deeper his frown became.

Rae still hadn't sent him a message.

Cassian had been busy dealing with Cindy's matter. It wasn't until a day ago, when he realized Rae had blocked him, that he started to feel uneasy.

At first, Cassian reassured himself that she was simply too angry and would eventually come around.

That Rae would soon calm down and come looking for him like she always had in the past.

But this time, something was different. She was too quiet. It was as though she had never existed in his life.

Not to mention that he could no longer feel her through their mate bond as strongly as before.

Maybe it was because of her injury.

Still, three days should have been enough for their mate bond to recover.

After the accident caused Rae to lose Diamond, his ability to perceive her through their bond had dropped from one hundred to twenty. But now, it seemed to have fallen to zero.

The thought only made his frustration grow.

Beta Liam glanced at Cassian before returning his gaze to the road. "Alpha, has Rae still not unblocked you?"

Cassian's jaw clenched, and his gaze turned icy.

Liam spoke calmly. "I think you need to calm down, Cassian. How many times have the two of you fought over the years? And every single time, didn't history repeat itself? Didn't she always come back and beg you? Why are you so worried?"

Cassian kept pulling down to refresh over and over again. He didn't even react to Liam's words. It was as if he hadn't heard him at all.

Liam glanced at him again and sighed. A grin spread across his face. "In fact, I believe Rae will calm down soon. Let's be honest. She can't live without you anyway—"

"Shut the hell up and drive!" Cassian suddenly roared, his Alpha pressure exploding throughout the car.

Cassian had already been on edge. Liam's constant chatter had finally pushed him over the limit.

Liam immediately snapped his mouth shut and focused on driving. The Alpha pressure radiating from the man beside him made his entire body tense.

Cassian threw his phone onto his lap in frustration and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

The atmosphere inside the car became heavy and suffocating.

Suddenly, his phone vibrated. Without wasting even a second, Cassian snatched it up, and the pressure around him eased.

Liam's stiff body relaxed. He smirked knowingly. "Told you. She's just throwing a tantrum. She'll come back. Old habits die hard, after all."

The corners of Cassian's lips lifted slightly as he unlocked his phone. Rae had never behaved like this before.

Whenever they argued, she had always been the first to swallow her pride and beg him. This time should be no different.

Cassian opened his messages.

'Alpha, we need your decision regarding the General Manager position. Miss Cindy and Miss Rae each recommended a candidate. Who should we choose?'

Cassian froze.

The next second, however, a wave of irritation washed over him. He loosened his tie, his expression darkening.

Feeling the immense pressure returning, Liam frowned. "Isn't it Rae?"

Cassian shot him a cold glare, instantly shutting him up.

A cold sneer crept onto Cassian's lips as he looked out the window. Good.

Feeling cocky now, aren't you? Clearly, Rae had been the one to provoke Cindy first.

How dare she be angry at him and expect him to coax her?

It was all because of Rae that he had been repeatedly scolded by his parents over the past three days.

Even then, he had still spoken up for her in front of them. Yet she...

His jaw tightened.

Suddenly, a sense of clarity washed over him, and his emotions settled. "Return to the office."

"What?" Liam blurted out. He exclaimed, "In just a few more minutes, we'll arrive at the hospital. Aren't you going to see Rae anymore?"

Cassian slowly lifted his head and fixed Liam with a frigid stare. "Are you defying your Alpha's order?"

"No... No." Liam swallowed hard and quickly shook his head.

His eyes darted back to the road as he searched for a place to make a U-turn.

A cold sneer spread across Cassian's lips. Since she wanted to play this game... Then he would teach her a lesson.

Cassian picked up his phone and dialed a number. The call was answered almost immediately.

"Confirm Charles as the General Manager."

The person on the other end fell silent for a moment. "But, Alpha... Eric, the candidate Miss Rae recommended, is far more capable than Charles."

"Is that so?" Cassian's voice dropped another octave. "Do I need to explain my decisions to you?"

The man's voice trembled. "No... No, Alpha."

Cassian ended the call and casually set his phone aside. He knew perfectly well that Eric was far more capable than Charles.

But... Let's see what Rae would do.

Let's see if she wouldn't come running back after finding out what he had just done.

She claimed to be tough, didn't she? She even had the audacity to block him.

Let's see whether she could stay calm after realizing just how angry he was.
