Chapter 1
Joseph Miller's father, Samuel Miller, was temporarily placed at the funeral home.
Samuel's body had been run over by a car from the head down, leaving him completely unrecognizable.
During this time, I called Joseph countless times, but without exception, he hung up on me every single time.
I went home exhausted, only to find clothes scattered all over the floor.
My heart clenched again, and I forced myself to stay calm.
From the bedroom came Amelia Martinez's flirtatious voice:
"It's all your fault, you were so rough. I'm dying from the pain."
And my husband Joseph was kneeling between her legs, applying medicine to her.
"Be good, it's my fault. You're too beautiful, Amelia. I couldn't help myself."
My eyes instantly welled up with tears. I remembered a year ago when I was on a mission and got a huge gash torn open on my leg.
I begged him to help me apply medicine, but he just looked at me coldly and said matter-of-factly: "Get a doctor to stitch you up. I have a mission."
Back then, I naively thought he really had something urgent. Later, I found out it was because Amelia had returned to the country, and he was going to pick her up.
Amelia noticed me and screamed, then shyly buried herself in Joseph's arms.
Looking at her panicked expression, Joseph impatiently pointed at the bedroom door:
"Get out!"
I tried to keep my voice steady: "Come out when you're done. I need to talk to you."
I waited in the living room for a long time. Cold wind blew through the window onto me, yet I felt unusually calm.
Finally, Joseph came out holding Amelia and sat down in front of me. Only then did I say:
"Your father passed away. I think you should go back to the police station to handle this."
To my surprise, Joseph and Amelia exchanged glances and sneered:
"Olivia Smith! First, you tried to trick me with your father, now you're switching to mine?"
Amelia covered her mouth and laughed: "Olivia, stop lying. Samuel called him just this morning. How could anything have happened to Samuel?"
"No! I didn't..."
I tried desperately to explain, but Joseph impatiently cut me off:
"Enough! There's a limit to jealousy. I don't have time for your drama! Amelia is hurt. I need to take her to the hospital."
With that, he didn't look at me again and walked out carrying a smug-looking Amelia.
I sat alone in the living room, staring at the huge wedding photo of Joseph and me on the wall. Finally, I took out my phone and called that person.
"I've made up my mind. I'll participate in the police station's raid mission as an undercover agent."
Samuel had been good to me. I would personally avenge him!
The person on the other end was silent for a moment, then asked: "This is extremely dangerous. Does Joseph know?"
"He doesn't need to know."
I stood up and used a knife to completely slash through that wedding photo.
"Because I'm going to divorce him."
