Chapter 4 Annulment

 A YEAR LATER…

The test result in my hands revealed that I was six weeks pregnant. A year after our chaotic wedding, Killian hadn’t touched me, till sometime last month, we consummated our wedding. And now I was carrying his child.

I actually took the test because the doctor recommended it while I went for a check up after feeling weak and nauseous during the day. My hand went up to my belly, where my little one was growing and I smiled at it, feeling fuzzy.

The door of our room opened, I dropped the result into the shelf and closed it at once, before turning to him. His brow was raised and he held a grey suitcase, matching his pants as he tugged at his red tie.

“How is my princess doing this evening?” He asked, wearing his usual smirk.

My face turned red hot as I looked away. “I’ve missed you, but now that you are here, I will be fine.” I sat on the bed, playing with my fingers. Thirteen long months together and I still feel giddy around him.

He dropped the suitcase by the bed and then his tie fell on the bed. “Yes, sure. Daddy is here to make you feel just fine.” He fell and planted a kiss on my forehead, then my neck. I placed my hands around his neck and laid on the bed as he climbed on me. His large hand squeezes my butt.

A soft moan slipped out of my lips as I went for his buttons, taking them off one by one. “Yes, please.”

His phone started to ring and he raised his head up from between my boobs. “Oh no.” He ran his hand through his hair and planted a kiss on my lips. “I’ll be right back.”

I groaned as he got up and took out his phone from his pocket. “Yes? Oh. Uhm.” he turned to me and sighed. “Fine, I will be right there.”

I sat up with a pout. “You’re leaving again?” I asked. He was buttoning his shirt.

“I’m sorry, princess. There are reports of some business men who turned rogue on me.” He planted a lip on my cheek. “I have to discipline them.”

As he strouted to the door, I called out. “Remember, temper justice with mercy.”

He paused by the door, smirking. “You are turning me soft, you know.”

A tight lips smile crossed my face as I threw my head up, looking at the ceiling and thanking the moon goddess for giving me this happiness in my life.

“Tonight, I will tell him about the pregnancy and then I will ask him if he loves me,” I said to myself. Killian had never really said that word to me before, but I had told him once. But I know he loves me, because he hasn't kept any mistress and he has treated me like a princess so far.

A loud bang made me pause, I strained my ears to hear what was happening downstairs. It seemed like a commotion. I sighed, got up, arranged my dress and headed out of the room.

Downstairs, I was caught off guard to see Mum and Dad. “You didn’t tell me you were coming,” I said, with my brow raised as I came off the last stair. Someone was standing with Mum, backing us as she pulled in a suitcase. Something about her blonde hair—

She turned and I almost missed my steps. I grabbed the railings to steady myself. My eyes are bulging. “Sage?” I asked frozen, my lips shaking. “Sage, you’re alive?”

Her face slowly shifted into a warm smile. “Sister!!” She rushed forward and hugged me. I was stiff. Then she pulled away, taking my hand. “Thank you for saving our family from shame. I’m back for my husband now.”

“How?” I rubbed my eyes, wondering if I was seeing things. The smile on Mum and Dad’s face told me that I was not seeing things. Sage was really there with them. In fact they brought her themselves.

“Sage came back to us three days ago,” Mum knocked me out of my dilemma and I faced her. “The goddess had truly shown us mercy.”

Dad cleared his throat. “Sage has been mischievous. She eloped with her boyfriend and framed their death so we would not look for them.” My jaw dropped and he sighed, nodding. “But I assure you, she has come back to her senses now.”

Sage pouted and nodded. “I realize that Joe was with me for my money. Dad had frozen my accounts after he thought I was dead, so Joe couldn’t get the money and he started treating me like shit. I had to come back to my loving parents.”

Mum shook her head and hugged Sage. “Oh my poor child. I’m glad you are back and fine.”

I placed my hand on my hips, looking at them all with my lips pressed into a thin line.

How are they not getting it? Sage was only back because things went south. She never cared about them and she messed with all of our feelings. Yet, they were still blinded and showering her with all this love.

“Where is our inlaw?” Dad asked.

I sighed. “He just left for work.”

Dad nodded. “Good, we will wait for him to get back. We need to talk about the annulment of the marriage.”

My brow propped up. “What annulment?” I inquired.

“Yes, you need to get divorced. So your sister can take her place back as King Killian’s Luna.”

That didn’t make any sense. What the hell? Is this a prank of something?

I shook my head, looking around. Two maids were passing by. Mum gestured for them to leave and then she took my hand, almost pulling me. “Come and sit, dear.” I sat and they circled me. “Penelope, you never wanted this marriage. So we are here to free you from it. Sage will be Luna.”

“They were meant for each other anyways,” Dad continued. “You don’t have the physique to keep a man anyways. We can’t afford to lose out on being the inlaws of the King.”

“I— I am the queen, Dad.” That was all I could say. My voice shakes as my chest rises and falls in rhythm with my heavy buffs of breaths.

Mum let out a short laugh. “Oh Penelope. Just wearing the crown doesn’t make you the queen. You know you don’t look the part, Sage does.”

“A wolf queen that cannot shift? Oh please,” Dad snickered.

Sage nodded, smiling softly, in support of Mum. I zeroed my eyes on her before facing Mum.

They are doing this again. I would not let this happen to me again.

“NO.” I blurted and jumped to my feet. They stepped back a bit. Sage grunted and Dad kept looking at my face. There was a flicker of surprised expression on Mum's face. I hadn’t spoken in that tone to them before.

“I am not letting anyone push me around again. I make my own decisions over my life now— I will not be divorcing my husband for any reason.”

I faced Sage, gritting my teeth. “You can go back to where you are coming from, there’s no place for you here.” I balled my fist and stormed back towards the stairs.

Sage’s hand wrapped around my arm as she stopped me. I turned to her slowly, our eyes met, brows furrowed and rage burning in them. “I— will tell you once, Penelope.” she growled. “If you don’t leave this marriage the easy way, I promise you will leave the hard way.” She narrowed her eyes. “You know that I always win.”

I scoffed, raising both my brows as I looked her dead in the eyes. “You always win?” I smirked. “Yet you ran away with an abusive guy, oh please.” I yanked my hand free from her grip and stormed up the stairs.

“Mark my words, sister. You will regret this,” Sage voiced out behind me.
