Chapter 15 Fifteen
Calista’s POV
My grandma might not be a doctor, but she knew herbs. A blessing bestowed upon her by the moon goddess herself.
I felt the peace between my grandma and Zane earlier, and I hated it.
"How is everyone?" I asked Ray as I stepped out of the doctor's office.
"Everyone is getting treatment and hopefully they'll be healed in the next couple of days," Ray explained as we moved through the hall.
"Where are you going?" Zane appeared, grabbing my arm. Not so tight, but tight enough to make me frown.
Our eyes met and his forest pine scent filled my nose.
His aqua-green eyes fixed on mine in silence. The tension was raw, intense, and intimate.
He felt it, just like I did.
His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he looked at me.
His expression unreadable.
I swallowed hard, but before I could let myself get lost in his gaze, I recalled his voice from our first time.
He clearly rejected me without feeling remorseful.
"This is my pack, Alpha Zane, and I go wherever I want to." I yanked my hand back, my face going cold.
My wolf thrashed her tail and growled at me for talking to Zane like that.
I wasn't surprised she was acting like that.
A horny little puppy.
She thinks Zane wants us. She thinks he came here because he cared about us.
I continued walking with Ray behind me. "Calista," Ray started.
"How bad is it?" I cut him off.
"Some might take long to recover. Maybe a week," he added and I nodded.
"I understand." I replied as we walked to the room where my men were being treated.
Nurses were all over the place, treating their injuries and trying to stop their bleeding.
The scent of blood was thicker in here.
"Alpha Calista." Doctor Johnson, the elderly man who had been working for the pack for decades, greeted me. My eyes finally landed on him.
I hated the sight of them lying helpless and useless.
"Calista." The door burst open and my gamma, Kalean, walked in shirtless and bloody. "The borders are not clear yet." He said and I frowned.
"What happened?" I demanded and Kalean looked down. "There are more of them beyond the borders. They will attack again soon. They are waiting for the right moment and it can be any moment from now." Kalean narrated everything that happened.
How two warriors who were supposed to guard the borders were injured.
Badly.
I couldn't believe this was happening again. The last time I saw this much blood was five years ago.
And two great men were killed in the course of it.
Without a word, I pulled a dagger from the side of my pants and sliced my palm open.
It was either I did this or the pack lost more than it could recover.
"Get me a glass." Johnson understood my command and picked a glass from a nurse's tray.
I let the blood drain into the cup and ordered Johnson to feed them with it.
Each of them got a drop and in a few minutes their wounds would be healed.
I was a silver wolf with special blood that could repair and destroy at the same time.
The pack didn't know, but Johnson knew. He was one of the people my father trusted, and I trusted him too.
Now my beta and gamma also knew about it.
A secret buried for years was suddenly known.
Now two more people knew about it and I could only warn them to keep it to themselves.
"Your secret is safe," Ray promised. So did Kalean.
"One more glass," I requested and Ray brought the glass.
I sliced my wrist and let the blood drain into it.
"My blood is better than any treatment," I whispered.
Johnson returned after feeding them the first glass.
I put the knife back in its place.
"You know the consequences, Calista." I nodded my head proudly.
"I'm glad I can help," I said to Johnson and for a second he looked at me as if he wanted to say more, and then Zane walked in.
Cold. Ruthless. Superior.
With him in a room, no one stood a chance to outshine him.
"What happened to your wrist?" His eyes dropped to my bloody wrist.
"What the fuck are they doing to you?" He closed in with a few steps.
Held my hand with anger blazing in his eyes.
What the hell was his problem?
"Don't you think you have overstayed your welcome, Alpha Zane?" I tilted my head to the side.
Any time I looked into his eyes, I saw love and care, but his words from that day only made my heart cold.
I yanked my hand back and his eyes darkened.
"I asked Alpha Zane to stay for dinner," my grandma's voice rang out as she stepped in.
"No, you didn't," I whispered.
"Yes, I did, and I think it's good for the pack, especially now that we need alliances."
"You invited a total stranger," I said and I knew Zane wasn't happy with my choice of words, but he doesn't get to decide.
My pack and I were none of his concern.
"Come on, Calista, it's just dinner." She said and I let out a sigh. "I hope you are right." I turned to Doctor Johnson and nodded to him.
Zane kept his gaze on me as if trying to figure me out.
"You need to rest, Calista. Your wolf needs it," Johnson said in a worried tone and I nodded.
He was right.
I need to rest for myself and the pack.
I didn't get far when I felt Zane grab my hand.
"You are the silver wolf that everyone is looking for?" He asked in a serious tone.
"What, you want me now because I'm a silver wolf?" I asked and his eyes flashed coldly, as if regretting something. But it was too late, because I didn't want him now.
