Chapter 21 Twenty one

Calista’s POV

"Whatever you plan on doing, think about the pack, Calista."

Elder Marcus blurted out with a strong expression covering his sharp eyes that seemed to have seen too much of the world. He was one of the closest to my father when he was alive.

The oldest among the elders.

Nothing less than two hundred years with a complete gray hair on his head and under his chin.

Eyes cold and sharp.

He looked nothing less than a man who has seen the world in its complete form.

My father regarded him as the wisest among the seven elders.

The most deserving of his title.

"The pack comes first. Your pride and arrogance isn't what the pack needs. Alpha Cletus is Quin's own grandson, one of his favorites."

He didn't blink but I swallowed in disappointment.

I couldn't help it. Maybe because I thought too highly of him.

And expected too much from him. My eyes immediately sharpened. It was obvious no single one of them was willing to hear my decision or consider my thoughts.

Using the pack as the main focus to discard me.

"Think of what the pack can gain from this alliance." He continued.

His voice serious.

And convincing.

"So you want the alpha of this pack to use herself as bait for the pack's safety?"

My grandmother's defined, sharp voice cut through the hall.

Not loud. Not small. No filter.

Just her voice. Sharp.

And feminine.

Every elder turned their heads to the door where she stood in a white cloth with her divine staff in hand.

Her hair white like the cloth around her.

"Selena."

Marcus blurted in surprise.

Females were not allowed in the council hall, but that rule has long been burned down to ashes.

It ended the day I became alpha. The day I succeeded my father as the alpha of this pack.

"Calista is the alpha of this pack. The one the moon has unmistakably accepted. Her fate isn't yours to decide, Marcus." Everyone remained silent.

"Perhaps one of your granddaughters can mate Alpha Cletus to secure whatever gain he has to offer." She continued without giving anyone the chance to speak.

Elder Marcus jumped up from his seat in anger.

"Calista is just like every female and you know it, Selena."

"Females are not born to rule over males."

There comes his real reason clothed as pack sake.

My grandma scoffed.

"You still think like when you were young, Marcus."

I caught the sarcasm in her tone. The frown in Marcus's eyes mixed with his anger.

"Calista isn't like every female." Her voice turned serious.

"She is the alpha of this pack, Marcus. Wake up." She protested.

"Only a fool thinks like you do."

Marcus swelled in rage.

His wolf eyes peered through him, but my grandma didn't flinch.

"You dare insult an elder, Selena." One of the elders growled out of his seat, his hand slammed against the table.

But the minute I stepped out of my seat, his wolf had no choice but to obey my wolf.

A silver wolf.

One that hasn't appeared in centuries.

One that the world didn't know still existed.

"Raise your voice at my grandma again and you will know why I'm called the only female alpha in the West."

I roared, my voice filled with threat and daring.

The elder stumbled to his knees under my wolf's pressure.

Every wolf in the room bowed their heads except my grandma.

If they want real power.

I could give them one.

I pushed my wolf back and straightened my back.

"Control your wolf, Calista. We are not just pack members and certainly don't deserve this humiliation." Marcus growled as he struggled to catch his breath.

"We are the elders of this pack, tell your wolf."

I almost chuckled.

"Maybe you should start behaving like one." My grandma replied and Marcus's rage returned, but this time he didn't dare shout at her.

'You should let me out.' Isla growled in my head, her intention obvious.

'Not yet, Isla.' I tried to calm her.

The elders couldn't know who I was yet. I didn't have the slightest intention to let them know who I truly was.

"I will make this clear." I started, my eyes fixed on Marcus.

"If Alpha Cletus wants a reply from me, he would have to come forward and hear it himself."

I declared and the elders gasped.

"Is she really calling him to step forward?"

"You can't make such a decision. Cletus is Quin's own grandson. What if Alpha Zane and the others decide to back him up?" One of the elders whispered in panic, but I chuckled.

Alpha Zane.

Of course, I almost forgot he was among the seven grandsons of the Alpha King.

Alpha Quin of the Central Kingdom. The oldest werewolf alive.

Rumors have it that he made his daughters marry alphas so he could have every pack under his claws.

And Zane was one of his grandsons. The oldest, to be precise.

"You want to put the pack in trouble. You can't challenge him."

I narrowed my eyes.

"I can challenge anyone I want, Marcus." And Cletus wasn't the first nor would he be the last.

" You are calling for war and it's not good for the pack."

" You call my reply war?" I questioned.

" It's disrespectful, alpha Cletus isn't alone. He is powerful." He tried to explain it that only made him a coward.

Since he think he could just creat chaos in my pack and scare me. I

would let him know that I wasn't anything he has seen before.

I turned my gaze at my grandma.
