Chapter 5 Five
Calista's POV
Last night right after we got back from the Blue Moon pack I ordered my beta to send words to alpha Ronan about my interest in forming an alliance with his pack.
The North pack might not be resourceful like us but they have warriors. And Alpha Ronan was the right alpha to work with if I wanted to get back at Zane for his betrayal.
Both Alphas have been on different pages for almost a decade.
I wasn't expecting Ronan to show up this soon but it seems I underestimated myself and my pack.
We might not be the strongest in the west but we were stronger, rich with land blessed by the moon goddess herself.
The Crystal pack was one of the few packs that barely depended on other packs for food or security.
Alpha Ronan sat opposite me in my office.
Hand resting on the armrest of the brown chair he sat on.
His arrogant gaze lingered around with nothing but amusement.
He was a man in his early thirties just like Zane.
A very cunning man known for his notorious personality.
His gaze shifted to me as if thinking about something.
Without wasting time. I went ahead to explain my intentions to form an alliance with his pack even though it was stated clearly in the letter delivered to him.
I gave him reasons I knew he wouldn't be able to refuse.
His pack was currently facing a problem because of the drought happening in the North.
" So what do you say, Alpha Ronan?" I asked and he leaned back in his seat with a slight smile playing on his lips.
" You are indeed what they say you are, Alpha Calista." He said in a calm tone." I'm surprised a woman like you exists in this world." He praised.
His words meant nothing to me.
What I wanted was his reply.
" When I first heard about you. I didn't think you were this beautiful or intelligent." He added, his eyes not leaving mine.
" I'm impressed, Alpha Calista." He leaned forward with a grin.
" So what do I get to offer in this?" He asked and I smiled.
" You don't have to offer anything." I told him." But who knows, I might need your help in the future."
He looked back at me for a few seconds before nodding his head.
" In the future." His lips curled into a dark smile.
" The West is indeed blessed." His voice firm and precise.
" You do know what it means to form an alliance with me, don't you?" He leaned back in his seat with a calm expression.
" What do you think, Alpha Ronan? " My voice was nonchalant.
He stared silently at me before opening his mouth.
" That means my enemy is also your enemy, Alpha Calista. Are you sure you can withstand that?” He leaned toward my desk.
I didn’t blink. “Alpha Zane Bluemede.”
His smile sharpened. “So you know.”
“I’m counting on it.” I blurted out and he nodded with a stern smile.
" If that is the case then I don't think I can say no." He sat up in his seat.
" I figured."
" I was honored when I got your letter." He explained but didn't get any reaction from me.
" And I don't think there is any reason for me to not accept such a blissful proposal from a beautiful alpha like yourself." He stood up from his seat and offered his hand.
" So it's an honor to form an alliance with you, Alpha Calista. My pack will leave look forward to your visit."
I rose up from my seat as well and shook his strong hand.
" Same here," I said with a slight smile and he nodded, smiling back at me.
It was easier than I thought.
I walked him out of my office to his car." I wish I could stay the night here but I have somewhere to be." He explained and I nodded, understanding his reasons.
" But I promise to stop by again and when that happens I would like to get to know you personally."
I didn't say anything and watched as the car drove away.
" Are you sure about this?" My beta appeared beside me.
" Alpha Ronan is also famous with women." Ray reminded and I turned my gaze to him." I know." I said and turned to head back into my office.
" What else does the remous say about him?" I asked as I sat in my seat.
" He has impregnated two women in his pack and they are of high rank." I nodded.
The office space went silent. Ray was still standing beside my desk.
" Speak, Ray," I said and he cleared his throat.
" Yesterday. Your cloth. It was torn and you had a different scent in you." He stated, and I looked up at him.
" I found my fated mate and he rejected me after taking advantage of my heat," I said plainly without showing any emotion.
The room turned silent for a while before he spoke again.
" His lost."
I didn't think so.
Zane could have any female he wanted. Losing me takes nothing off his name or strength.
Besides he was going to mate with another. It was just a matter of time.
Ray left my office after a short while. I was busy with some paperwork and before I realized it was dark.
The minute I stepped into the house darkness greeted me.
I wondered where my grandma was.
It used to be me, my dad, and my grandma.
But after my dad passed five years ago it has been my grandma and me.
I still remember the night my dad died.
It was raining heavily when the pack was attacked by rogues.
My father and his beta, Ray's father went out to fight the rogues.
Ray's dad didn't return. My dad who returned died a few days after the attack.
Doctors couldn't tell what happened to him but it was believed the rogues might have injected him with something.
His death felt like a conspiracy.
After my father passed I didn't have a choice but to take over and protect the pack.
Ray has been by my side since then.
I didn't know how I got into my father's room but I found myself standing in the middle of his room.
After five years. The room was still the same.
His things were intact but his scent was gone.
The comfort and warmth I felt whenever I entered was no longer there.
" Calista." I felt my grandma's warmth on my shoulder.
" He will be very proud of you." She said and I turned to look at her.
" I miss him," I said, my eyes shining with tears but I didn't let them fall.
" Sometimes," I added.
' Calista, the rogue from five years ago is ready to talk.' my beta mind linked me and I turned to look at my grandma.
' Okay, I will be there.' I replied.
" It's okay. You should leave." Grandma said before I could say anything.
