Chapter 2 Annoying and Annoyed

Melanie

"Alpha, someone from Full Moon is at the gate, a messenger for you." My warrior mind links me. Oh my Goddess those losers over at Full Moon are so fucking annoying. First their Alpha shows up here every single day until I agree to his stupid little meeting, now they're sending messengers?

That fucker shouldn't even have the Alpha title or that land. Half that land belonged to my Grandfather, he sold it to that pathetic family, so that they could expand and help their people. Allegedly. What'd they do instead? They built a fucking torture complex for lower ranked wolves. Sick bastards. That land was supposed to be returned to my family if it was ever used outside of the contract terms. Spoiler alert: torture chambers were outside of the terms!

The damn council claimed that punishing people for illegal deeds was their job and that a contract can't dictate punishment and therefore they won't give the land back. Rather they gave it to the Silver Crescent pack's second born. Like the Creed family doesn't have enough fucking land and power, they needed to extend their influence west.

I know damn well the reason the council ruled against me was because I'm a female Alpha. They were convinced that after my parents and leadership were wiped out during the attack we got dragged into with Full Moon that I wouldn't be able to sustain the pack. Well they were fucking wrong. Over a year later and we are better than ever. I only had to endure 42 challenges and a whole lot of sexist bullshit, but the pack finally respects me.

Now that we're stable, I will get that land back, Gregor can go to hell. If he thinks we're signing a peace treaty tomorrow he's got another thing coming.

"Alpha? What do you want me to do?" The warriors voice disrupts my train of thought.

Shit, he's waiting for a response. Get with it Melanie, revenge planning can wait.

"What's the message? Make him tell you." I respond.

"He says the message is only supposed to be for you."

"You tell him I don't give a fuck about his orders, either he tells you or leaves."

"Yes, Alpha."

There is a long pause and I'm assuming the messenger is giving up and speaking to my warrior.

"Alpha Gregor wants to bring his brother, Alpha Caiden to the meeting tomorrow. Alpha Caiden said that he caught the scent of his mate by the border when he was running the perimeter."

I can't help but actually bust out laughing. Are these guys on drugs? They think I'm letting ALPHA CAIDEN on my land to drag one of my women away across the country.

"Tell them that Alpha Gregor shows up alone or not at all. I don't give a flying fuck about Caiden's mate." I respond.

"Yes, Alpha."

"What's so funny?" My Beta Xavier says as he strolls into my office.

Xavier and I grew up together, his father was my fathers Beta and now he is mine. Growing up everyone thought we would be mates, luckily we aren't. Hopefully I never find my mate, he'll probably try to take over my pack. Fuck the patriarchy for real. I'm not the Luna type anyway, I was born to be Alpha of this pack, fuck tradition.

"Nothing really, Alpha Gregor is delusional and thinks I'll allow his brother, Alpha Caiden, on our land to find his mate. Apparently he caught her scent by our border." I reply.

Xavier cocks his head to the side and gives me his sexy smirk. Ok so maybe I didn't want a mate, but I still have heats and full moons I need someone to have sex with and Xavier is hot as fuck with his deep brown eyes, tanned olive skin, and light brown hair. Yum. Anyway we both know it's not serious and I know he sees other people. Me on the other hand, I try to stay away from other entagelments. I'm sure the second anyone catches wind of me sleeping around that I'd be labeled a whore. However, he isn't the only one I've been with. Particularly the past full moon, I picked up a Gamma from some east coast pack passing through. I had a feeling Xavier might be catching feelings and I didn't need that.

"Why are you giving me that look, Xavier?" I ask

"Yes, Xavier what's with the smug smirk?" My Gamma, Sean, asks as he walks into the office.

Sean is the son of my father's Gamma and also a good friend. We don't fuck though, he's literally like my brother. We also look alike with his light blond hair and ice blue eyes.

"Alpha Caiden from Silver Crescent caught the scent of his mate at our border." Xavier says.

Sean starts cracking up, literally doubled over in laughter.

"What, what is so damn funny?" I demand.

"Melanie, you do realize the only female in this pack who would be strong enough to be mated to an Alpha like Caiden is you?" Sean says through fits of laughter.

"ME!?" I screech.

"Yes. And you were just running over there this morning weren't you?" Xavier adds.

His expression is hard to read it's a mixture of amusement and concern? Maybe a little sad? Weird.

"Oh shut up. There are plenty of female warriors who run that route all the time." I reason.

"Alpha Caiden is not going to be mated to a warrior. He'd be mated to an Alpha female, naturally." Sean says with that smug smile on his face.

These assholes.

"I'm sure I'm not his mate. Even if I am it doesn't matter. I told him no. So he's not coming here. He'll go home once he's done with his little visit and we'll never see eachother." I say.

Now it's Xavier's turn to laugh "Ok, Mel, keep believing that the strongest Alpha in the country is just going to leave after he's caught the scent of his mate. Good luck with that."

I'm so fucked.
