Chapter 6 Chapter Six – A Storm of Secrets

Selene didn’t know how long she ran.

The city lights flickering past her, her wound dripping blood, her breath ragged. All she knew was that she had to get away, from Kael’s stormy eyes, from Riven’s gentle fire, from the truth that had finally been spilled .

She ducked into an alley, pressing her back against the cold bricks. Her heart beats so fast, her arms shaking. Her fire still burned faintly in her palms, like little orange sparks that refused to die.

She clenched her fists, whispering through tears, “Why can’t I just be normal?”

Her words echoed off the walls but The world gave no answer.

---

By morning, Selene forced herself back to her apartment. She cleaned her wound, wrapping it tight, then dragged herself to the hospital. She needed to be normal. She needed to breathe in the smell of medicine instead of blood.

She walked into the children’s ward, where little patients smiled at her like she was their light. A small boy tugged her sleeve. “Doctor Selene, will you read to us today?”

Her throat tightened. She smiled weakly. “Of course.”

She sat on the bed and read a fairy tale about knights and dragons. But her mind wasn’t in the story. Her voice cracked once, twice. She kept seeing Kael and Riven’s faces, the way they had looked at her when they discovered the truth.

Not with love. With shock. With fear. With war.

---

She didn’t see them coming.

When she stepped out of the ward, Kael was waiting in the hall, his tall frame tense, his eyes stormy. Riven was there too, leaning against the wall, his amber gaze burning.

Her heart skipped. She turned to leave, but Kael’s voice stopped her.

“Selene. We need to talk.”

Her stomach twisted. “Not here. Please. People will hear.”

Riven pushed off the wall. “Then come with us. Somewhere private.”

Selene wanted to run again. But their eyes, their pull, the bonds… she couldn’t escape forever. She nodded weakly. “Fine.”

---

They met in an old parking lot on the edge of the city, quiet and empty. The wind carried the faint scent of wolf.

Kael didn’t waste time. “You lied to us.” His voice was sharp, controlled anger. “You pretended to be human, a doctor, when all this time you were the Slayer.”

Selene’s heart ached. “I never lied. I just… didn’t tell you.”

“That’s the same thing,” Kael snapped.

Riven stepped closer, his voice softer. “She was protecting herself. You know what would happen if packs discovered the Slayer lived among humans. She’d be hunted, used and destroyed.”

Kael’s eyes narrowed at him. “And you knew before me?”

Riven’s jaw dropped. “I found out last night. By accident.”

The two Alphas locked eyes. Tension sparked between them again, heavy and dangerous.

Selene raised her voice, tears threatening. “Stop it! Don’t fight because of me.”

Kael’s storm broke for a moment. His gaze softened, but his words cut. “You don’t understand what this means, Selene. The Slayer isn’t just a story. It’s a weapon. A curse. And now my mate carries it.”

Her breath hitched. “Do you think I asked for this? Do you think I wanted to die under the Blood Moon? To be reborn with fire burning inside me? I never asked for it!”

There was Silence. Only her ragged breaths filled the air.

Riven took her hand gently. “Selene… you’re not a curse. You’re a gift. You heal with one hand, fight with the other. The Goddess gave you both because this world needs balance.”

Selene’s eyes burned. His words were warm, but her heart still ached. “Then why does it feel like all I bring is war?”

---

A loud howl cut the air.

The three of them turned sharply. Shadows moved at the edge of the parking lot.

Rogues again.

But this time, they didn’t attack. They circled, growling low, their eyes fixed on Selene. One stepped forward, its voice a guttural growl. “The Slayer lives. The packs will know. The war begins.”

Before Selene could move, the rogues melted back into the shadows, gone as quickly as they came.

Kael cursed under his breath. “Damn it. Word is spreading.”

Riven’s jaw tightened. “If the rogues know, the packs won’t be far behind.”

Selene’s knees weakened. “No… no, this can’t happen. If they find out, they’ll hunt me. They’ll kill me again.”

Kael reached for her hand, his stormy aura heavy but protective now. “No one will touch you. You’re mine.”

Riven grabbed her other hand, his amber fire burning. “You’re not his. You’re ours. And I’ll protect you with my life.”

Selene’s chest pulled in two directions, her heart aching. Both bonds burned, one storm, one fire.

She wanted to scream.

But before she could speak, a new howl rose in the distance. Not rogue. Pack.

Her stomach dropped.

The packs had heard.

---

That night, Selene sat in her apartment, staring at the moon through the window. She held her knees close to her chest, trembling. The city felt smaller now, like a trap.

Her phone buzzed. She picked it up with shaking hands. A message glowed on the screen.

The Council requests your presence. Tomorrow night.

Her blood ran cold.

The Council. The Alphas. The law of wolves.

They knew.

Selene dropped the phone, her breath breaking. She whispered into the silence, “Moon Goddess… what do I do?”

The wind outside howled, carrying no answer.

Only the weight of destiny pressing down on her shoulders.

---

Two Alphas prepared for the same meeting.

Kael stared out at his warriors, his storm-gray eyes hard. “If the Council threatens her, I will burn their laws to ash.”

Riven stood among his pack, his amber eyes fierce. “If they touch her, I’ll fight every Alpha in the land.”

Both vowed the same thing.

But only one could stand at her side.

And Selene’s choice would shape the war to come.
