Chapter 6 Chapter Six
The connection of our eyes is short lived and I walk faster, catching up with Elderman. The tingles that also appeared when our eyes connected disappeared, leaving me with a cold feeling all over. None of it made any sense.
After walking for some minutes and climbing up a few more stairs, we entered the Alpha’s wing. I didn't need to be told because his scent slammed into me with full force.
I was overwhelmed. Just from receiving an onslaught of his scent at the same time. My vision blurred and my legs became heavy and threatened to collapse right there in the hallway.
Gabriel must have sensed something was terribly wrong as he came closer to me and held me. But his touch didn't bring comfort. It prickled my skin and I jumped away.
"Are you okay?" He asked with a worried look and I managed a nod.
"I'm fine. I just....."
"The alphas scent" Elderman cocked his head at me and I nodded.
He looked lost in thought for a second and then he shook his head.
"It's his wing so his scent is heavy. Coupled with the fact that he likes to scent mark his properties"
"Scent mark?"
"A typical behavior for alphas to show that a person or thing belongs to them. If you touch something that has been scent marked, the consequences will be dire" I nod in understanding and take note not to touch anything in the alpha’s wing.
"Where's my room though? The scent is too much"
"This way. Come on" we walked down the hallway and I did my best to pinch my nose and keep the scent away from me.
The moment we entered what would now be my room, I let out a loud exhale. I even noticed Elderman's shoulder relax slightly. Clearly I wasn't the only one affected by the alpha’s scent.
"This will be your room. Leo's room is next door and there's a connecting door for both rooms. It makes it easier for you to cross over" he points to the door in question and I nod.
"The alpha’s room and private office are further down the hallway. You won't have any reason or business to be there" he says but mutters something else under his breath that I don't catch.
"Typically, we're not all allowed to wander in the alphas wing so if there's anything you need, you either have to come out of the wing and get it or you send the servant assigned to you"
"There's been a servant assigned to me?"
"Two guards and a maid. Don't refuse them. You'll need them along the line" I drop the argument and nod instead.
"Gabriel will introduce you to them once you're settled in. Are you hungry?" I shake my head. Food was the last thing on my mind at the moment.
"Then we'll leave you to rest" Elderman said and moved to the door.
"Do you have any questions?" Gabriel asked with concern.
I shook my head. "None for now"
"You can ask me anytime you have or need something" he offers with a smile and I manage to return it.
"Again, thank you for doing this"
"It's no problem" I say and both of them exit the door faster than I blink.
I sit on the bed, still cradling Leo to my chest. He had fallen asleep and remained oblivious to the world.
Gently, I set him down on the bed and try to move away but he whimpers loudly, grabbing the air like he was searching for something in his sleep. Or someone.
I grab his hands and he settles down immediately. I'm still in shock and wonder about how he managed to latch onto me like this. And even called me his mother.
Nevertheless, I was glad to do something to help even though it was very little.
Unable to explore the room since Leo needed me close, I lay down on the bed with our hands still entwined. The bed was plush, like a sea of clouds. Exhaustion hit me hard and soon I was yawning and burying my face deeper into the pillows.
Inevitably, I succumbed to the tiredness of the day and fell into a deep sleep.
"Are you hurt?" I whisper to a boy crouched in the corner. The darkness of the room hid most of his features but I knew when he opened his eyes. Intense blue stared back at me.
"No" a weak voice shuddered in the corner. It was a boy around my age. Moved by concern, I drew closer to get a glimpse of his face but there was nothing there. Just the blue eyes.
"Why are you here?" I prod again.
"Someone is trying to...." The rest of his words are lost as someone pushes violently on the door. Arms shoot out from the darkness and grab me.
I try to scream but it's muffled by the palm over my mouth.
"You have to stay silent" he whispers in my ear and my body obeys the command. I see two burly men in the darkness, they look angry and dangerous. They tear apart the room searching for us... or him.
"He's not here. Let's move north"
"We're encroaching on the north moon pack"
"We'll be swift and once we get him, we'll be out of here" the two men leave and the boy frees me in the darkness.
"They're searching for you" he grunts in displeasure but says nothing.
"My home is not too far from here. I can take you back with me"
"No" he stands up and I move back. He was way too tall to be around my age.
He stalked forward and I took a step back and then his face began to take shape.
I gasp as his face comes into full view.
And then I jerk up. I'm no longer in that dark room. I'm back in the room in Alpha Xander's pack. But what I couldn't make sense of was my dream.
Why did the faceless boy in my dream look like Alpha Xander?
