Chapter 7

The emergency bell kept ringing.

I stopped at the bottom of the courthouse steps and turned toward the sound. Red River’s warning bell only rang when someone had crossed the border fence or the town was under attack.

People ran from the main hall. A ranch hand shouted that the west gate was down.
