Chapter 3
Harper stood on the stairs with her hands on her hips, completely fearless. "Let me tell you, Chloe is about to become the lady of this villa! Anyone who messes with me, I'll make sure you can't survive in Sovereign City for the rest of your life!"
Her threats came to an abrupt halt.
The butler in white gloves appeared from somewhere, silently grabbed Harper's arm, lifted her up, and dragged her out the door.
"You just wait!"
Her shouting was completely cut off as the door closed.
Scarlett forced down half a cup of coffee as brunch, fighting her nausea, then went to the dressing room to find that wedding dress.
The 13-meter train took up a large space in the deepest part of the dressing room. She took it out every few months to care for it, and it still looked brand new. Even after several years, it still sparkled.
She could still vividly remember how happy and excited she was wearing this wedding dress. Scarlett still remembered the joy swelling in her heart.
Too bad things had changed.
She didn't let the servants help. She dragged the heavy wedding dress downstairs by herself to the backyard.
Half an hour later, Chloe showed up at the villa.
"Scarlett, I see you still don't know what's good for you."
When Harper failed to get the wedding dress back, Chloe came in person.
She found Scarlett in the backyard. "If you cooperate and step aside, I'll remember our connection and won't treat you too badly in the future. After all, I know Tristan cares about you."
"But if you don't cooperate, Tristan will still marry me in the end, but you'll be in trouble."
She and Harper used the same script. To Scarlett, there wasn't much difference.
She sat in a soft chair under the backyard corridor, playing with a solid gold lighter in her hand.
"Scarlett, I'm talking to you!"
The half-open walls of the corridor blocked the view. Chloe took two steps forward before she could see that on the lawn, the wedding dress she had been dreaming of was piled there like garbage, giving off a sharp smell.
"Scarlett, what are you doing?"
With her scream, the lighter in Scarlett's hand drew an arc through the air, and the flame landed on the white wedding dress.
Blue flames shot up.
She had already poured gasoline on the dress. Almost instantly, a raging fire began to burn.
"Ah!"
Chloe let out a scream. She wanted to rush over and save it, but the temperature was too high. She could only stand there, heartbroken.
"Scarlett, you're crazy!"
"Scarlett!" Tristan's voice came from behind. He had come back from outside.
Before Scarlett could turn around, she heard Chloe complaining, "Tristan!"
"Tristan, Scarlett's gone crazy and burned the wedding dress!"
"Scarlett, what's wrong?"
Tristan didn't rush to put out the fire. He just glanced at the million-dollar burning wedding dress, then looked away without care, as if it were just a piece of waste paper.
He patiently crouched in front of Scarlett's chair and gently held her hand. "Have you been feeling unwell lately, so you're in a bad mood? If you want to burn it, burn it. It's okay."
Chloe stood behind with her mouth open, stunned. The jealousy and hatred in her eyes were so intense they could almost burn along with the wedding dress.
Scarlett finally looked away from the flames and toward Tristan.
The firelight stung her eyes. She blinked several times to hold back tears.
"Tristan, what would you do if I cheated on you?"
"Scarlett?" Tristan was stunned, then laughed. "You wouldn't cheat."
"I said, what if."
"There's no such what if."
"I want to know the answer."
Like last night, she was particularly stubborn. Tristan had to give an answer.
Under his gentleness, a hint of violence showed through. "If you cheated, I'd kill that man, then lock you to me so you could never leave me."
Scarlett laughed.
She laughed for a long time, laughing until tears came out, laughing until she bent over, her hand gently covering her belly, but her heart felt cold.
"Honey."
Tristan was a bit flustered by her attitude and simply knelt on one knee in front of her. "What's really wrong? Can you tell me the truth?"
"If I cheat, you'd kill that homewrecker."
Scarlett stopped laughing and looked past Tristan's shoulder at Chloe behind him.
Her face suddenly turned cold. "So if you cheat, can I kill that homewrecker too?"
Chloe couldn't help but shiver.
"Honey." Tristan's heart tightened slightly, though his face showed nothing.
His face only showed helplessness. "You've really been acting strange these past few days. How about we go on vacation? Where do you want to go? Let's get away and relax."
"Tristan," Chloe couldn't help calling out. "You're taking Scarlett away? Didn't we agree to celebrate my birthday together next week?"
"You're not a kid anymore." Tristan's brow furrowed instantly, his tone impatient. "If you want to celebrate your birthday, you can have your parents with you. Scarlett and I have our own things to do."
Scarlett quietly watched them perform in front of her.
If she didn't already know the truth, she would never have seen that they were already together.
Chloe bit her lip, looking wronged. "But—"
"I see you really like Tristan." Scarlett suddenly said playfully. "How about letting Tristan marry you?"
"Scarlett!"
Before Chloe could get angry, Tristan got angry first.
"Don't make that kind of joke." His eyes were clear and firm. "I'll only love you for the rest of my life. Remember that?"
He pulled a small velvet box from his pocket and held it in front of Scarlett like offering a treasure, opening it without hesitation. "Look what this is?"
Inside lay a diamond ring.
A light blue pure diamond, as big as a knuckle.
"I was going to give it to you on our third wedding anniversary, next month." His smile was gentle, full of happy anticipation. "Try it on now, okay?"
Behind him, Chloe was so anxious she almost jumped.
That was her diamond ring, the proposal ring Tristan was going to give her!
"Sure." Scarlett casually extended her right hand and removed the original wedding ring from her ring finger. "Is it my size?"
Her hands were slender and long. Chloe's fingers were short and thick.
There was no way they could wear the same ring.
But to her surprise.
Tristan gently slid the ring on, and it fit perfectly on her ring finger, not off by a millimeter.
Sunlight fell on them both, and the scene looked as beautiful as a proposal.
Chloe was so angry tears were about to fall. She made up her mind to reveal their relationship!
"Scarlett, let me tell you the truth! Actually, Tristan has long—"
