Chapter 5 Chapter Five

Adrian's POV

After driving off, I didn’t drive to the office.

I turned the car around and left the city behind.

While driving, I got a call from my assistant.

“You have a meeting in ten minutes sir and I fixed a dinner for you with some prospective company CEO,” she said professionally.

“Cancel it,” I replied plainly.

She hesitated. “All of it?”

“Yes.”

“But sir-” she pressed further before I could end the call.

I cut her off. “Aren't you aware that I don't do business calls related activities on this particular date? As of today, I no longer need your services.” I ended the call immediately not wanting to hear her pleas.

Today, was the day my mom died and was accused to have committed suicide.

I knew her all my life and she was always filled with joy, so what was the reason?

Trees passed by slowly, as I increased the pace.

When I reached the cemetery, I parked and sat in the car for a moment.

My heart felt heavy.

I picked up the flowers from the seat beside me, white lilies.

I walked between the graves, each step I took feeling heavy. I stopped when I saw her name.

Mrs Liora Brown

I knelt and placed the flowers on the grave.

No matter how frequently I came here I still was unable to fully accept that she was gone.

“I came back mom,” I said softly.

The wind brushed against my face.

“I said I would protect you,” I continued. “I said I would make things right. But everything is getting messy.”

I stood up and looked around.

“I won’t lose,” I added with confidence. “Not this time, I know I'm already close to making them pay.”

After spending some time talking to her, I hope, I turned to leave.

Halfway back to the car, I felt it again.

That strange feeling.

I stopped and looked around, but didn't see anyone.

I got into the car and drove away.

THIRD PERSON POV

Zara sat in the makeup chair, as they prep her up for her role in the movie she would be starring in.

“Five minutes,” her manager announced, mostly to the people doing the prep so they could round up.

Zara nodded, scrolling through her phone.

Her latest post already had thousands of likes and engagement.

Everyone wants her life.

She lifted her chin slightly, studying her reflection.

“I need to go live, I'm sure my fans would be very curious to know what I'm doing now.” Zara told her manager.

“We have less than 5 minutes, Zara.” Her manager reminded her.

“I will be quick.”

Zara adjusted the phone on the stand, checking the angle twice.

“Okay… this is good,” she murmured.

She smooths her hair, and taps the screen, and the red light comes on.

Her smile blooms instantly.

“Hey my beautiful people,” she greeted softly, maintaining a sweet tone. “I have something really special to share with you all today.”

She waited for a while, building anticipation.

Then she continued.“For the longest time, I have waited for this and I’m so excited to finally say it out loud.”

She lifts the script into view, just enough for the title to peek. “I’ll be starring in my first movie.”

Her hand flies to her mouth as if overwhelmed.

“This role means everything to me and I promise to give it my whole heart.”

Comments began to pop up even before she finished.

Congratulations.

We knew it!

So proud of you, Zara!

She laughs softly. “Thank you for believing in me, even on days I doubted myself. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to take you all on this journey with me.”

She blows a kiss at the camera.

We love you.

Then… a sudden comment catches her eye.

How do you feel being in the spotlight? Why don't you share with us things we don't know about you, like regarding your relationship two years ago.

She blinked and froze for a second, as past memories flooded her head.

I hope you are ready for whatever this fame brings.

More comments kept coming in.

Her fingers hover over the phone.

Her stylist glances at her.

“Don’t mind them, Zara,” the stylist murmurs, leaning closer. “Some people just can’t be happy for anyone.”

Wow, congrats on the movie… pity you’re just a pretty face stealing someone else’s happiness. Hope your fiancé doesn’t find out what you’ve really done.

Zara forces a bright smile for the camera.

“Thanks for the support, guys! Don’t let negativity get to you, right? Bye for now.”

She quickly ended the live stream, her heart was beating fast.

“It's enough.” She dismissed the stylist.

Her manager comes back in. “We are about to start, don’t forget to smile extra today. The director loves charm.”

Zara forces a smile. “I will.”

Arielle's POV

While my mom was asleep, I went to meet the doctors for my test result which I did earlier in the morning due to the slight pain l was feeling in my stomach.

I didn't want the child, but still I didn't want anything to happen to the child, my child.

While I was sitting in the waiting area, l suddenly saw Ethan.

I looked away immediately, hoping he didn’t notice me.

But he did.

He walks closer and asks casually,

“You’re Zara's friend, right?”

I nodded slowly. “Yes, I am.” I reluctantly answered him.

“Why are you in the hospital, is everything alright?”

“Yes.” I replied fast, feeling a bit scared.

“We didn't really have time to talk that day and you looked at me in a weird way.” He continued the conversation.

I kept my eyes on the floor, not wanting him to see my face but he didn't bulge.

“I don't talk to strangers, let alone my Friend's fiance and secondly, maybe your mind is playing tricks on you because I don't recall staring at you in a ‘weird’ way.” I emphasized it to him in a sarcastic tone.

I didn't mean to, but he was getting on my nerves.

“That was not what I implied, but it was nice meeting you again.” He turned to leave.

But just then, a doctor walks toward us and smiles.

Before I could fathom what was going on, the doctor looks at us and says,

“Congratulations. The baby is doing fine.”

Everything freezes.

I could feel my blood literally draining from my face.

The doctor continued, still smiling, “You must be relieved. The pregnancy is healthy.”

Ethan turned slowly to me, his face was looking pale.

“Does he remember?” I asked myself hoping not.

His voice shook as he asked the doctor,

“How… how far along is she?”

The doctor answered him calmly, “One week.”
