Chapter 1 One

Nuella’s pov

PRESENT DAY

The moon shone heavily from the makeshift window I had constructed in my cage on my first night here.

It had been three whole months since I last saw sunlight or my old pack. I can still remember that unfaithful day I was dragged into this place like it was yesterday.

“Staring at the moon won’t change your fate, you still remain cursed and without a child.” The chief guard mocked from his chair outside my cage.

“We actually had more faith in you…” he cracked a walnut and threw it into his mouth. “Seeing as you are an omega, the moon goddess’s perfect breeding tool. But yet even the moon goddess abandoned you.”

Their loud chuckles filled the quietness of the cell.

I frowned ready to turn my back on them when I felt a thump in my stomach.

“Ah…” I groaned.

I tried to ignore the pain but it felt like hands were gripping my stomach from within.

I banged on the gate.

“Let me out…” I begged. “This is the recurring pain I talked about last time. I need to speak with the Alphas, something is wrong…”

The guards eyed me suspiciously and refused.

I felt my knees about give out before I slammed on the gate again. I expected it to only rattle a little bit but the gate didn’t just creak and bend, it went flying to the other side of the prison room.

The guards and even myself stared in absolute shock as the twisted gate laid flat on the gravel ground.

“What…How did you do that?” the chief guard eyed me in suspicion.

I didn’t answer his question before I ran out of the prison room. I expected them to be hot on my tail but when I looked back I saw them all standing as they watched me in absolute shock.

I knew something was wrong.

I felt different ever since the last full moon came up.

I ate less. I slept more. My combat skills became better each time I had a chance to practice at night.

All these symptoms pointed to one thing. One obvious answer.

I shook my head not wanting to jump into any conclusions.

Wildflower already carried the child of the Alphas. She was the one chosen by the moon goddess to bear their heir and break the curse.

I was the rejected one, the cursed omega.

But have I finally been chosen by the moon goodness? Has she finally heard my prayers?

I got to the chambers of the Alpha brothers, smiling and eager to share the good news when the voices made me stop.

“This is my only request…” Wildflower pleaded.

I creeped closer to the giant ajar door and listened.

“She is of no use to this pack. She is useless and would only consume our food if she remains in that cage.” Wildflower explained.

“So what are you suggesting?” Melin, the older of the two Alpha brothers questioned.

“You know I carry your pup, the heir of TalanClaw. You know I was the one chosen by the moon goddess to break your curse and be your first Luna. Nuella is only going to destroy this pack.”

I tried to peek into the room but the door was not wide enough to see anything.

“When I become heavier with this child do you think she won’t try to kill it out of jealousy?”

Morphes growled.

“That is why we should act on it now… please my Alphas, execute Nuella MorningStar before she kills our child.”

I gasped hard as my smile faded from my lips.

They wouldn’t. They wouldn’t listen to her.

But they did.

“Your wish is our command…” Morphes said.

Melin growled out in anger. “Guards!!”

Without waiting to hear what he had to say I leaped from where I stood and ran.

I ran without looking back, without bothering to let them know that even I myself had gotten pregnant.

Would they even believe me? Would they even believe the cursed omega from a slump pack?

I knew this would happen the moment Wildflower was brought into the pack. I knew she was going to have me killed so she would be the only Luna.

As I ran I felt my stomach walls tighten.

Is this the life the moon goddess had planned for me? A life of pain and misery?

I had already gotten to the border of the pack when the patrol gun sounded and all the surrounding lights came on.

“Find that omega, dead or alive!” The chief guard yelled.

I crossed the border leading into the wastelands.

I would rather die out here than in the hands of Wildflower.

I’m about to fly over a hole when I missed my step and fell inside it instead.

My hands guarded my stomach immediately as I landed on sharp branches and a net.

My eyes immediately adjusted to the darkness of the hole.

I’ve been caught in a trap…

I tried climbing out but the walls were too steep and sharp.

After many failed attempts I gave up.

I’m going to die here. I’m going to die here without even birthing my child. I’m going to die as my father always said I would.

If I knew this was what awaited me that unfaithful day I would have let my father kill me instead.

“Help!” I screamed at the top of my voice.

“Somebody! Anybody!”

But no matter how I screamed no one came to my rescue.

The night began to grow colder and the air in the hole began to stretch thinner.

I’m going to die here.

I never once prayed to the moon goddess especially since she never favored me, but tonight, under my breath I began to whisper prayers.

“Just give me this one opportunity, help me…you created me and I know it is for a reason. So with my dying breath I ask that you let this cup of death pass me by.”

But as usual I was never chosen. I remained in that hole for two nights, surviving on the leaves and dried berries that grew from the walls of the hole.

By the sixth night I had no food, no water, no means of survival and quite frankly, I had reached my limit.

As I faded into absolute darkness, scenes from my life began to flash through my mind…
