Chapter 2 Chapter 2

Desdemona’s POV

As expected within the hour, Marissa had turned blue and had collapsed while on one of the machines while frothing and foaming at mouth. I was all ready for it, of course not everyone knew how to use poisons from herbs in negligible traces in this pack except me. Of course squirrels had taught me a lot of things, along with rabbits and birds…but I wasn’t going to begin telling this pack stuff, was I? After everything that they put me through.

“DESDEMONAAAAAA!” came my father’s roar from the doorway as I slaved away in the kitchen cooking the lunch feast that the entire pack would be consuming.

“Father? Is everything alright?” I asked with the pot roast casserole in my hands as I put it inside the oven. Then turned back towards him again, the picture of innocence and paragon of virtue.

“What have you done to her? What did you do, Desdemona? Because I know it was you…you are the one who had poisoned her!” Alpha Blackmoor screamed as he came at me with his fists raised. He would have punched me but I had taken enough beatings in my life from all the males in this family and pack to learn to not flinch when the beating came.

Of course it helped marvelously since I was resilient. Like that was my superpower, a pretty lousy superpower but as far as living in this pack went…I needed it.

“I have no idea what you are talking about Father. Please tell me what has happened…” I almost begged as I inwardly did a crazy dance and he seethed in rage. I could feel it palpable in the air wafting from his body in waves. His face was red and bulging and he was almost on the verge of losing control.

“Marissa…your fucking Luna. You poisoned her, didn’t you?” he asked as he gritted his teeth and I gasped in shock.

“Father? What are you saying? That is preposterous! I have been cooking for all of you for the last five years now and no one has fallen sick and now all of sudden I am the one who has poisoned Marissa?” I asked him in that same shocked voice and expression.

My father, and Alpha, Dorian Blackmoor took a step back from me and looked at me carefully.

“Are you telling me that you have done nothing to her and have no idea what has happened?” he asked with his brows furrowed in confusion.

“Father,” I started calmly this time,” You have cameras all over the house except the places of sleeping. You can always check the footage if you don’t believe me.”

“How did she get poisoned then?” he asked.

“I am the only person who is not even allowed to go out of the house without any male escort. Not have any female friends and the only time I can go in the woods someone is always trailing me. How would I know that, Father? If you had let me in more of the pack gatherings then..”

“Desdemona! You are not asking me to allow you in the pack gatherings even when you can’t shift, are you?” asked the lousy man who had the audacity to call himself my father when he had never done any of his filial duties ever.

“Yes, yes I am, Father. You can always guard me as an honorary member of the pack since I am your child and let me be a part of it all…I think if you had done that then I would have known who wanted to harm Marissa.”

“How? How can you know that? You are not even…”

“You think wolves only respect power, and I know they do. But power doesn’t come from just being strong Father, it comes from information as well,” I said as Damien rushed inside and said,” Dad Mom’s conscious…she is conscious…”

Father did not bother looking at me as all of Marissa’s sons and utter bastards came inside holding their mother in their arms. Oh the sight of that made my eyes bleed.

Marissa was conscious but she was weak. I knew what I had given her and how long it would take for her to recover.

“Marissa…Marissa baby what has happened to you? Please…please tell me you are okay..”

She nodded weakly as she fluttered her eyes and Father said,” Take your mother to her room and let her be comfortable. Call the healer immediately to check on her. Desdemona, you are going to be taking care of her. Do you understand?” he asked as he turned towards me.

“Are you sure you want that, Father? You thought I had poisoned her,” I tried inserting some guilt and he waved it away with his hand.

“I was scared and angry, you know that, daughter, don’t you? Do this, and I will allow you in our pack gatherings,” he said with a semblance of a smile.

“Dad? How can you even say that? Mom expressly forbade her from any of the pack gatherings and festivals…she is a fucking freak and she can’t even shift. She is not even a wolf. She is essentially a human!” growled out Damien who was a year younger than me but he was larger than me in size and strength. It had never helped that he had shifted when he was thirteen and was one of the strongest and brutal warriors of the pack.

“Your mother has made some decisions as the Luna of the pack and I never opposed them but that didn’t mean they were right. And she may be human but she is the one who feeds us, you should at least show her some gratitude Damien. You think you are too good for everyone else and too strong, but you will never be Alpha if you keep being this way. Now go and make sure your Mother is comfortable.”

Alpha’s word was final in this pack and house but Damien still looked at me and snarled,” When I am the Alpha, there will be no place for freaks in this pack. Just know that for certain, bitch!”

I did not react. I did not respond. Of course I could not but I knew one thing. That Damien would never be Alpha and he would live a very painful existence indeed.

I had just begun and I had no plans of stopping unless I had what I wanted.
