Chapter 2 Chapter Two

I pull out my phone and text my best friend Christian. I say my best friend but really he is my only friend, unless you count my brother as a friend and that just sounds pathetic, so I don’t think I am going to do that.

Me: Please come rescue me from this party!

Christian’s response is almost immediate as if he was waiting by the phone, there is a good chance he was. I don’t think he would ever admit it out loud, but I am his only friend too.

Christian: I would if I could babe. Mom has the car and I have no way out. Can’t believe your brother forced you to go to another party. (sad face emoji)

I laugh. He can’t believe my brother forced me to go to another party? Yeah right. My brother always drags me to these stupid parties. He wants me to make more friends and he thinks this is the way to do it.

Me: Yeah he did and guess who I literally ran in to when I was trying to find somewhere I could be alone?

Christian: Who?

Me: Sapphire.

Christian calls me almost as quickly as I hit the send button. I smile, answering “Hello.”

“You really ran into Sapphire? Like literally ran into Sapphire? Queen bitch? Miss cheer captain, look at me I'm better than everyone else." Christian asks, sounding genuinely surprised and scared at the same time.

I flop backwards on the bed. “Yep. Ran right into her, and then she called me a heifer oh and a cow. You know like those two things aren’t the exact same thing.” I say laughing as I remember the way she looked at me.

“Wow, I swear if she wasn’t pretty in that popular girl way she wouldn’t have a damn thing going for her.” Christian says and I can hear the eye roll in his voice, making me laugh.

“Yeah, I know what you mean.”

Christian laughs. “I wish I could come get you babe. I really do, I mean I know you are just having a blast, but I don’t want you having so much fun without me.”

“Oh yeah. A real blast. Dirty remarks, drunk idiots and crappy music. Best time of my life.” I say sounding just as sarcastic as Christian did a second ago.

We both laugh. "Next time you are forced to go to one of these super fun parties I will make sure Mom stays home so I can use the car if I need to come get you."

"Thanks." I say laughing. Someone opens up the door to the room I am in. Shit. Who is that? I really hope it isn’t Sapphire. I don’t feel like dealing with her right now.

"Oh sorry Erin, I didn't know anyone was in here." Keaton my brother's best friend and my life long crush says.

"I have to go." I say quickly into the phone and hang up on Christian.

"It's okay. You can come in if you want to. I was just trying to get away from all of that out there." I say motioning behind him.

Keaton laughs. "Still not a fan of parties?"

"No I'm not, but you know Evan he won't take no for an answer." I say looking down at my hands.

Keaton walks over sitting on the bed beside me. "He's just looking out for you. Your brother thinks you don't get out of the house enough."

"I like being in the house. There aren't any bitchy people in my house. My books and computer are in my house."

Keaton laughs. "Who was being bitchy here?"

I bite my tongue. It probably wouldn't be the best idea to tell Keaton his girlfriend is queen bitch as Christian called her. "No one. It's nothing."

Keaton nudges my shoulder with his. "Oh come on now, tell me who it was or I will tell your brother someone was being a bitch to you. We both know that won't end well."

If I didn’t like him so damn much, I would punch him for using my brother against me. He knows damn well how much I hate my brother being used against me. I don’t want him fighting or getting in any more trouble than he already does on his own. “Fine I will tell you, you won’t like the answer though.”

Keaton furrows his brows at me. “Why won’t I like the answer? Who was it, Erin?”

“It was your lovely girlfriend. I accidentally bumped into her downstairs and she took it upon herself to call me out and call me fat all at the same time.” I whisper looking down at the floor. I don’t want to see his reaction.

Keaton takes a deep breath. “Of course it was Sapphire. Why wouldn’t it be sapphire?” He asks, shaking his head in disbelief. “She called you fat?” He asks and I can feel him staring at me, but I can’t look at him especially now.

I don’t answer, I can’t answer if I do there is a good chance, I will start crying. I have always been sensitive about my size. I’m not fat, I know I’m not fat, but when you get called fat, miss piggy, and a cow all the time it’s kind of hard to believe you are not fat. I’m a size eight, but all the girls at my school are maybe a size two at the most. I got mom’s big hips though.

Mom always says men like a little extra something to hold on to, but I would never know. I have never had a boyfriend, and I highly doubt I will get one this year either. Even if a guy did show interest in me not that anyone has, my brother would probably kill them.

When I still don’t answer his question, Keaton puts his hand under my chin tilting my head up to face him. “Answer me, Erin. Did Sapphire call you fat?” He asks, and I can’t help but stare into his beautiful green eyes.
