Chapter 6 Chapter Six
Keaton stops mid bite, eyes going wide for just a second. He quickly recovers. "She got out, she's fine." He says as if it's no big deal that he's here with me instead of her.
"Why aren't you with her?" I ask, curiosity getting the best of me.
Keaton shrugs. "You want me to leave you here and go get her? We can all have a little midnight snack, before I take you home."
I scoff, what a dick. He knows damn well I don't like Sapphire and not only does she not like me, but she is a world class bitch to me all the time. Including at the party. "No thank you. I'd rather go have dinner with a freaking serial killer, than eat with that bitch" I say in a disgusted tone.
Keaton quirks an eyebrow at me and my eyes go wide realizing I just said that out loud. To him. About his girlfriend. "Oh my God. I am so sorry." I say in a rushed panic. "I don't know why I said that."
Keaton stares at me blankly for a second and I'm about to start another panicked apology or burst into tears or something. Then Keaton does something I wasn't expecting, like at all. He bursts out laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" I ask, just waiting for him to yell at me or something for talking about his girlfriend like that.
Keaton laughs even harder. "I can't help it. The look on your face when I asked if I should go get Sapphire so we could eat together was amazing. You looked like you wanted to puke or punch her, maybe even both." He says through the laughter and I feel even more confused.
"Wait, you're not mad at me?" I ask.
Keaton shakes his head taking a bite of his burger like nothing happened. "No I'm not mad. I know she's a bitch. I also know she's a bitch to you all the time, even though I told her to leave you alone." Keaton says after he swallows his food.
He's told Sapphire to leave me alone? Why would he do that? We aren't even friends, like he said earlier he is my brother's best friend not mine. "Why do you bother telling her to leave me alone since she obviously doesn't listen?
Keaton frowns. "It's worth a shot, I don't like her being mean to you. It causes problems between me and your brother."
Right problems between him and Evan. It's not that he actually cares about me, I don't know why I keep getting my hopes up. I learned a long time ago girls that look like me don't get guys that look like him. If I wasn't Evan's twin sister he probably wouldn't even know my name.
"Well thanks for trying at least." I say taking a bite of my food.
Keaton nods his head. "No problem."
We eat our food in uncomfortable silence. Once we are finished Darlene brings the check over. "Anything else for you guys?" She asks.
"That's it, thank you!" I say to her, giving her a polite smile.
"No problem, you guys have a good night." Darlene walks off and I grab my money out of my pocket, trying to pay for at least my half.
"What are you doing?" Keaton asks his usual playful smirk back in place.
"I was going to pay. For at least my half, because I know you won't let me pay for yours." I say trying to get a peek at the total.
Keaton snatches the check and shakes his head chuckling. "You're right. I'm not going to let you pay for mine, or yours." He says hopping up and rushing to the register.
"Keaton wait. That's not fair." I say in a half whine.
Keaton laughs, handing the cashier the check and a twenty. "Keep the change." He says smiling at the young cashier.
"Thank you, have a good night." The young boy at the register says.
"Keaton seriously. Let me pay for my half." I say as we walk out the door.
Keaton laughs. "Not happening Erin." He says with a hint of amusement obvious in his voice.
"Keaton, seriously you didn't have to do that. I could have paid for mine at least."
Keaton turns and smiles at me when we get to his car. "Too bad I'm not going to let you."
"Well maybe I will just slip the money in your pocket or something." I say crossing my hands over my chest.
Keaton laughs. "So, you are just going to slip some money in my pocket like I'm some kind of stripper or something?" He asks.
I feel my cheeks heat with embarrassment. Oh my God! "That- that's not what I said." I say stuttering, unable to look him in the eyes.
Keaton laughs harder, pushing a strand of hair out of my face. "You don't think I would be a good stripper?" He asks, slipping his finger under my chin, lifting my face until I am looking at him.
My eyes go wide. Why is he doing this to me? "I didn't say that either."
Keaton laughs. "Come on, I will take you home. You are cute when you're embarrassed though." He opens my car door for me and I get in, my brain feeling like it's on overdrive.
How is this night even happening right now? I never hang out alone with him and now I'm cute when I'm embarrassed? What is even happening?
Keaton climbs in and we head to my house. Neither one of us says much on the way to my house. I wouldn't even know what to say if I wanted to talk.
We pull up outside my house and Keaton gets out walking me to my door. "You didn't have to walk me to my door." I say awkwardly.
Keaton smiles. "Just wanted to make sure you got inside safely."
"Well thanks and thank you for everything tonight." I say as I reach for the door handle. I try to open the door, but it's locked. I dig in my pocket, hoping I have a key. Shit. I don't have my key, and I don't want to wake up my parents.
"Is Evan home?" Keaton asks and I shake my head.
"I don't know, I'll text him real quick."
Me: Are you home I forgot my key?
Evan: Staying at Braxton's house.
"He's staying at Braxton's house. Crap, I guess I will just have to wake up my parents." I say putting my hand on my forehead. I really don't want to wake them, then I will have to answer a million questions.
Keaton shakes his head no and I look at him confused. "No, don't do that. You can just stay at my house. I'll bring you home in the morning."
Stay at his house? Before I can come up with some excuse why I can't do that, Keaton grabs my hand and pulls me back to his car.
My feet move on their own, I think my brain is frozen. How do I say no to him? Especially since I don't want to.
The drive to his house is short. He opens the door and we make our way upstairs. "I can just sleep on the couch or something." I say when we step into his bedroom.
Keaton laughs. "Don't be silly. You can sleep in my bed."
