Chapter 6
SACRLET'S POV
I panted and quietly yelped in pain.
My knees were swollen, and legs stiffened for staying in the same position for long in this snow. I was unable to touch my toes on the ground; they had long gone numb and now it felt like there was no more blood circulation them.
Grandma Ella had already gone to her room to sleep. I smiled bitterly. Joshua had no idea how much I had to bear just because he had to make up to his love. My hands initially refused to lift the boots I was wearing. Unless I let them rest to ease the pain. The bleeding from the cuts had already stopped. I knew they would take few days to heal, and I would be uneasy with the pain.
"You don't have to be honest with Old Madam every time." Uncle Charlie, butler of White house showed concern and kindness towards me. The servants were bound to follow the orders of Grandma Ella, but Uncle Charlie, sometimes got exception due to the long period he had served to this house.
"This woman has raised me; besides, I am now used to of her punishments" I tried to chuckle, playing off with the suffocation in the atmosphere. His eyes rested on my pale face. My lips had turned icy cold and I was shivering inside. I smiled at his kindness, when he helped with wearing boots.
Grandma Ella couldn't tolerate a woman who failed to keep her husband around her finger. Her perspective on marriage wasn't just love; it was more related to business.
"Your driver has already been sent back. Book a car quickly and go to hospital first before heading home" I nodded and picked my phone; I hissed at the stinging pain in my palm.
When it came to how the old madams of the White and Hughes families treated us youngsters, Grandma Grace was a bit lenient. She only asked us to kneel on the ground, but Grandma Ella ensured, the ground was made of pebbles. Smooth ground wouldn't hurt much, but the pebbled one would. And that wasn't enough for her. Her servants were ordered to whip our palms with leather belt until every skin was parted and blood oozed out.
I left the White house when I found a car, driver agreed only when I offered him a high pay for this ride.
The White House was built near the mountains. This luxury villa was spread across a number of acres and was far from normal traffic and crowds. The road wasn't used by the public and was specific to people, either from the White family or related to them in any way.
A taxi was waiting for me outside of this area and I had to reach it by walking. Normally it wouldn't have been an issue for me but today, my legs met with cruelty, knees weren't supporting my legs, nor my numb feet were able to carry my weight.
I had attached myself to the rock wall from which the path had been paved for the White house and was dragging myself or more correctly, snowy roads were helping me to slip, but I had to be careful to not fall. It wasn't easy, nor did I have any energy but there was no other left for me except to go home.
I was carefully going down when the headlights of a car blinked from far. It was heading to this side, though due to the darkness I couldn't figure out who it was, but I had an idea, who it could be at this time. The car was on its way to come across me, but I ignored and kept my eyes on the ground to know where I was putting my feet on. I couldn't take any risk of getting more injuries. The ones I got from the White house were enough.
The pain increased and I whimpered. The pressure on my legs sent a shooting pain and I bent to rest my palms on my knees. They were hurting. The world in front of me whirled up due to the pain and my mind couldn't help me much, nor was my body cooperating with me. At last I gave up, and then there was a blackout in front of my eyes when my back hit the hard ground and a quiet yelp escaped from my mouth.
Next morning when my eyes opened, I found myself in a cozy bed and quiet room. Heater was on to keep me warm; I remembered what happened last night, I sneaked my hands out of the comforter and saw the bandage on my palms, I bent my fingers and surprisingly they weren't aching. I sat up carefully, thankfully my back wasn't hurting anymore. I removed the comforter over me and caught a glimpse of my legs; bandage covered my knees and the numbness from my leg had gone now.
After examining myself, my eyes wandered to surrounding.
"How did I end up here?" I muttered but then those two headlights flashed and I knew what had happened. I was quietly thankful for the care, but I had to get back home. It was already late in the morning and would be noon by the time I reached home.
As I reached home, my eyes found Rosie sitting on the couch in lounge, our eyes met and she smiled brightly. Seems she was waiting for me, but I had no intention of talking to her or sparing another glance, especially what I had to endure yesterday because of her.
"I was waiting for you," she shamelessly has to accept that. I halted for a moment but then resumed to head towards my room when she came in front forcing me to restrain my steps.
"Why?" I was not in mood for talking to her, my hands folded on my chest, and I just wanted to get away with it.
"How's this locket? Joshua bought for me yesterday" her eyes weren't just sparkling joy, rather they were mocking me, I scoffed but couldn't avert my eyes from the locket that was hanging in her long neck. It was limited stock and Joshua had promised to buy for me when it was launched here but seemed like he had found someone more worthy of his money.
My heart shattered into pieces, and I gulped down the limp in my throat.
I decided to leave by passing through when she held my hand and looked into my eyes.
"I always heard Hughes family praising you for having good eyes for jewelry, won't you share your thoughts about it, after all Joshua has spent millions on it" I rolled my tongue and glanced at the wall behind her.
"It's legally Joshua's since he has paid the money, which makes it mine as I am his legal wife. I am not getting why you are wearing it in the first place; you should buy it from me first." I picked my phone and quickly sent a message to her phone. At the chime, she looked at her phone and then me.
"Its exact value is ten million, if not pay full, pay at least half, my share and then you are free to show off" her jaw dropped but who cared here? I entered my room and opened my wardrobe to pick a dress to wear after my shower when my eyes dropped on the box, my wedding dress.
I pressed my lips forming a thin line and brought it out.
"Aunt Molly?" it was heavy and I needed her help.
"I had to throw this out" her eyes widened, knowing what was inside the box, but seeing my straight face, she didn't dare to question.
We were climbing down the stairs, when at that moment Joshua entered the house, he wasn't supposed to be at home this time. I caught him but remained indifferent, however, he couldn't stop and came forward.
"Where are you taking your wedding dress?" I glanced at him and then at Aunt Molly, we were on stairs and any carelessness could cost us a fall.
We quietly followed until I threw it away at trash can, Joshua's mouth open in shock.
"You threw it away?" I turned to him and nodded.
