Chapter 8
SCARLET'S POV
He remained still on his feet, unable to process what I had said. I was already regretting acting so impulsively. Why bother whatever he called her. I cursed myself and had to now cover up the little mess I had made.
"Hey, don't get so worried. I was just joking; I know you guys are childhood friends and had adopted the habit of calling her by name." He forced a smile and didn't waste any second to get car and drove out to save his love.
I shut my eyes and rested my head on the couch. I had to keep control and not lose my cool. Just a few more days, and I would be out of this so-called marriage. I didn't have to give Joshua any reason to blame me when he saw the divorce paper. Rather, I had to keep him in guilt of doing wrong with me. Alas, he couldn't raise any point to push me back.
I was repeating a mantra of controlling myself inwardly when my phone rang, Phoebe was calling. I smiled gently while answering her call having a good friend is blessing.
"Hey, what are your plans for tonight?" I pinched my nose while recalling my routine.
"Nothing much, but I have a live stream show to attend. I will be free by nine though, why?" she hummed.
"Perfect, I'll also be free from work by then, how about we go to a club and have some fun?" She sounded excited and I agreed instantly.
I was done with putting a show of good wife and daughter-in-law. Even the White family had made sure to keep me low-key so that I could never have enough power to raise voice over them. But I had already started to work on making myself independent, and it wasn't from today or after that night.
The journey had already begun years before. However, neither the White family nor Hughes family were aware of it, and that was only because a colleague guided me to use makeup to bring change into my appearance. Hence, even if they had watched my show, they never recognized it was me.
The only advantage I had from this marriage was that the Whites no longer got involved in my life. They didn't care about me unless I was the obedient wife of Joshua, and the same applies to the Hughes, whereas Joshua, he didn't even care what I did all day.
So, if we saw it this way, I had gotten a lot of freedom and I used this freedom to advance my medical skills, a career I always wanted to pursue.
After getting free from live stream I got down to wait for Phoebe, she would be here any minute, knowing how punctual she was about time.
She parked her car in line with others, and we entered the club. Thanks to her vast connections, we directly headed to room upstairs to enjoy.
While we were taking our time to settle, drinks were served to us.
We clinked our glasses before taking sip.
"Kiss him, kiss him." The loud sound of clapping and hooting perked our interest and I stood with Phoebe to glance downstairs, where a crowd was gathered around a couple.
It took me some time to figure out the faces of couple and I froze.
"Wait! Isn't this Joshua and she is__" she licked her lips before looking at me with shock.
"Rosie? Don't tell me the woman he is in love with is Rosie" she was clearly watching scene unfolding right in front of her eyes but was looking ways to blame her sight.
"I was as shocked as you are right now, but yes, she is his sweetheart" I gulped down the whole content from the glass in my throat. My mood had turned sour. I knew he loved her, but asking for kisses like a teenager and not caring about his reputation was cringe.
With a blink of my eyes, they connected their lips and crowd applauded them, I couldn't hold a sight of this anymore and stepped back. However, Phoebe brought her phone out to click few pictures. I shook my head. Her lawyer reflexes couldn't be kept off.
"Will you be able to enjoy dinner? We can go somewhere else" Phoebe asked, caring about me. I was not interested in seeing their disgusting act, so I agreed promptly and we left to eat at our favorite dinner and went to club nearby.
Due to drinking, I couldn't wake up early in the morning, something which rarely happened, but I was glad to have had a good night spent yesterday and have not had a bit of guilt. After taking shower, I went downstairs to have a breakfast, Aunt Molly greeted me and somehow gave me a worried look, I ignored her and asked for breakfast.
In cold weather I preferred to take soups. It helped me keep warm and supported my digestion as well. Besides, due to drinking yesterday, I was having a hangover and wasn't feeling like eating something solid for now.
Aunt Molly went to prepare soup for me, and I opened my phone to scroll when I saw message from my bank, five million credited into my account, and it was none other than Rosie who had transferred. I was taken aback for a second but got reminded of our conversation yesterday.
I was amused. She literally was desperate for me to get out of Joshua's life. She couldn't bear to have my name on any asset shared between Joshua and me. I didn't mind; in fact, I was happy the more money I had in my account, the more I would be able to support myself after leaving this house.
I was seated on couch when laid down due to a sudden strong push I wasn't prepared for. When I turned, I found Jeremy tugging his tongue out at me. I rolled my eyes and ignored him. He lacked too much of manners, and I was not interested in teaching any.
"Mom went with uncle last night, soon he will leave you and marry her" he spat at me in hatred, I glanced at him quietly.
"You'll be happy?" I asked mysteriously, he nodded his head with sinister smile on his lips.
"Of course," I hummed.
"But what if you won't be happy for long" I rested my chin on my palm and looked into his eyes, for a moment he was confused but then reacted harshly.
"Don't lie, I will be happiest person" I chuckled, he really was a child who wasn't aware of adult's greedy minds.
"Until your mom won't give birth to your uncle's kid" tears pooled in his round eyes, the thought of sharing his mother ached his heart.
"No, I will be her only child," I smiled. Poor child. Life wasn't fairytale. Someone hadn't taught him.
"Forget that she will soon have a baby of your uncle, and then she will only cherish that child, and you will be nowhere in her life." I poked his nose playfully. I knew it was harsh, but that was true. To keep Joshua around her, she will prioritize his child over Jeremy, it is just a matter of time.
"Don't lie to me, you hate me, that's why you always scare me" he ran off and picked his tablet to make a call to his mother, but no one was answering, he tried multiple times but no answer. What I witnessed last night, I could assume where it had led to and seeing money in my account confirmed it. Rosie never had that much money; the Hughes would never hand over Frank's wealth to her; she had persuaded Joshua for it.
He started to cry but I had no reason or interest in consoling him, hence engrossed myself in my phone when my eyes caught a picture, my hand froze and I sighed.
"Why is young Master crying?" Aunt Molly entered the lounge at the right time, with a tray in her hand; she handed me bowl of hot soup.
"He probably saw this on his tablet" I turned my screen to show it to Aunt Molly, she gasped, covering her mouth. Her eyes drifting at me and Jeremy, she was probably debating on with whom she should show sympathy.
