Chapter 3

A man with a deathly pale face was screaming frantically into the phone in one of the rooms at the Harold family’s manor. “The mission failed, and you still expect to get the full payment? Have you forgotten who you are? Speaking to me in such a tone… Don’t you want to see tomorrow’s sun anymore?!”

“Dad, forget it.” A young man sitting on the sofa next to him carelessly folded the newspaper he was reading and put it aside, then walked over to Marcus Harold.

He is Larry Harold, the eldest son of the Harold family.

“Just give up?! Five million is something you can decide on your own?” Marcus Harold glanced at the indifferent words spoken by the person standing nearby, feeling extremely annoyed. Since he was already angry at the moment, he took his frustration out on Larry Harold over the phone.

“We can’t worry about money right now. It’s an expense that must be paid. If he goes and complains to Nick Harrod, we’ll lose everything.”

“Then you’ll be the boss?! If you’re so capable, then come up with a solution!” Marcus Harold took these words to heart, but he also regretted the five million that had been wasted. With no way out of this situation, he handed his phone to Larry Harold.

“Five million! Just wasted like that! It’s infuriating!” Marcus Harold continued to complain, using several vulgar words in the process.

Larry Harold’s expression grew even colder, his disgust toward his own father impossible to hide.

Nick Harold doesn’t favor large properties. His preference for smaller properties isn’t unfounded. If he were in his shoes, he wouldn’t trust Marcus Harold with such a large corporation.

“Dad, we need to figure out what to do next. At a time like this, if our plan fails, it’s very likely that people will blame us.” Larry Harold rubbed his forehead. He tried to change the subject, but only made matters worse.

Marcus Harold became even angrier upon hearing this. Finding Larry Harold as a scapegoat, he didn’t miss the opportunity to vent his anger. He turned to glare at Larry Harold and said, “How dare you speak like that? You can’t even do simple things properly. What’s the point of you existing? You’re good for nothing but causing trouble!”

“Heh, next time? Who knows if there will even be a next time.” Marcus Harold snorted coldly, as if hearing the biggest joke ever. “If that old bastard Nick Harold finds out about this, I have no idea what my son will do. After all, he acted on a whim, out of dissatisfaction with being treated unfairly.”

“What are you laughing at?” Marcus Harold felt a cold sweat break out on his back. He frowned, clearly uncomfortable.

“Speak more clearly,” Marcus Harold narrowed his eyes and stared intently at Larry Harold’s gloomy face. He could increasingly understand Larry Harold no longer—someone who couldn’t even control his own son.

“The phone belongs to you, Father. The bank card used for the payment is also yours. And he has only met you once.” Larry Harold tapped his index finger against his lips, rubbing them back and forth, his voice low.

Obviously, all the evidence points to Marcus Harold as the sole culprit. Yes, it’s definitely him alone.

“You really cleaned up your mess thoroughly! You’re so tired of living, aren’t you? All these years of raising you, and all you learned was how to scheme against me, huh?” Marcus Harold was so angry that his liver hurt. He pulled a chair over and sat down, unable to believe that the only son he had raised for over twenty years would do such a thing.

“I really don’t understand what Dad is saying. I hope Dad can shed some light on it.” Larry Harold’s narrow, slanted eyes sparkled with cunning.

"You..."

Larry Harold… Ah, Larry Harold. Truly, the name suits him well.

“I really believed you, damn it!” Marcus Harold was furious. He never expected that the son he had raised for so many years would actually scheme against him. This made Marcus Harold feel as though his authority as a father had been challenged.

Larry Harold didn’t care at all. He ignored the man’s anger and even made things worse by saying, “Didn’t the father agree to this voluntarily? Why get angry?”

Marcus Harold can’t do anything about it now, no matter how angry he is. As Larry Harold said, all the evidence points to him. Once this becomes public, he’ll be the one to bear Nick Harold’s wrath!

If Larry Harold tried to explain anything further, he’d probably get scolded. But him? He certainly wouldn’t have it so easy!

Marcus Harold, who understood the stakes clearly, quickly fell silent. He knew his limits quite well. If things came to light, he’d have to rely on Larry Harold to help him find a way to get out of Nick Harold’s wrath.

“What do we do now?” Marcus Harold tried to calm his anger as he asked.

“What else can we do? Of course, we need to go and see that poor sister-in-law of ours who’s encountered such a thing so soon after marrying into our family.” Larry Harold stood up, patting his clothes, ready to go at any moment.

Marcus Harold couldn’t understand it: “Why go over there? I wish they were dead.”

Looking at this stupid as a pig father, Larry Harold felt all the more that there must be a reason why Nick Harold favored his second son. If it were him, he’d rather choose a smarter grandson who could carry on the family business, rather than having to deal with such a foolish son.

But Larry Harold knew that no matter how much he agreed in his heart, the interests of the eldest branch of the family must not be compromised under any circumstances!

“It’s fine to put on a show for the sake of form. Do you really want the old man to think we’re heartless?” Larry Harold was getting impatient. If this person weren’t his father, he wouldn’t even bother dealing with him!

This person only gets older, but doesn’t seem to learn anything. I’ve wiped his bottom countless times over the years. He really has no memory at all!

Feeling his son’s disdain for him, Marcus Harold couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. He tried to save face by saying, “I know. I just wanted to test you a little!”

This pathetic excuse really leaves Larry Harold speechless. Such an excuse only serves to show how stupid he is. I really have no idea what he’s thinking.

Not wanting to pay any further attention to Marcus Harold, Larry Harold simply walked out.

“Hey, wait for me!” Marcus Harold had no choice but to follow.
