Chapter 5

“Why bother with her? What, have you taken a fancy to her?” Marcus Harold was somewhat displeased. Why waste time on some meaningless woman? Instead, he could use that time to deal with the woman who had ruined his plans. After that, he could go back and get some sleep.

Larry Harold ignored Marcus Harold completely and simply walked past him, heading toward Martha Lambert’s .

Marcus Harold was quite annoyed. He wanted to pull Larry Harold over and give him a scolding, but someone else stopped him.

“Marcus Harold, stop it now!”

Nick Harold was behind Marcus Harold. Seeing what Marcus Harold was doing, the old man, who knew well what kind of person his son was, immediately stopped him. His son’s heart was already hurt enough. If things continued like this, would he really have to push his son away completely to be satisfied?

He’s already lost one grandson. He can’t afford to lose another child who’s estranged from his father.

“Father, how did you come here?” Marcus Harold walked over to his father, Nick Harold, with a smiling face.

I’m a little puzzled. Maybe Larry Harold saw that old bastard just now, and that’s why he acted all pretentious. I figured I understood what was going on, so I decided to overlook Larry Harold’s rudeness toward me.

“If I don’t come, are you planning to hit my grandson?” Nick Harold gave his son a light smack, somewhat exasperated. Although he favored his younger son, he hadn’t neglected this one either!

It’s all Xu Li’s fault for spoiling his child!

Nick Harold habitually blamed everything on his wife, claiming she didn’t teach the children properly. He completely ignored the role he himself should have played in this situation.

Larry Harold, who knew Nick Harold’s habits well, could more or less guess what his grandfather was thinking. Although he found it ironic, he said nothing.

Instead, he went up to Nick Harold, who was in a poor mental state due to excessive grief over attending Owen Harold’s wedding, and carefully helped him.

Nick Harold gave Larry Harold a approving look, then slapped Marcus Harold hard across the face.

“Why is Grandpa here?” Larry Harold asked.

Nick Harold sighed, feeling a pang of sorrow. “This child has suffered enough. If anything happens and her fate changes, then my grandson will never be able to return.”

If Martha Lambert were awake and heard this, she probably wouldn’t care about any rules of hierarchy. She’d just use a taunting ability right away. What the hell is going on here?!

Larry Harold was also shocked by this question. He knew the old man was superstitious, but he hadn’t seen just how superstitious he really was.

“My poor grandson. I want to leave everything to him. Maybe, if he sees it, he’ll come back.” Nick Harold murmured to himself, hoping his wish would come true.

He thought his voice was soft enough that no one would hear him. But to his surprise, Larry Harold, who was standing nearby, had great hearing and caught every word he said.

Larry Harold was filled with resentment. Owen Harold was dead, yet he still cared about everything related to him. He even wanted to leave his property to Larry Harold. So what was Larry Harold then? Just a poor wretch who worked for free for the Harold family!

I originally felt a bit of pity for Nick Harold. After all, the old man had lost his beloved grandson. Since I was going to take over the Harold family anyway, it wouldn’t be wrong to show some kindness toward Owen Harold’s family.

Since Nick Harold doesn’t consider him part of the Harold family, then don’t blame Larry Harold for being unreasonable and heartless!

The father and son spent some time with Nick Harold in Martha Lambert’s hospital room. After that, Nick Harold said he was tired and left.

Before leaving, Larry Harold looked at Martha Lambert who was lying there. He stared at her for a while before turning around and leaving.

After they all left, the bodyguard standing at the ward door dutifully called Xu Bo and told him what had happened. Xu Bo then reported the incident to Owen Harold, who was still handling the situation.

“Well, Larry Harold seemed a bit odd when he left.” Owen Harold tapped his long fingers on the table, trying to figure out why Larry Harold had changed his behavior.

“Yes, my lord. It seems like his expression became strange when he was helping the old man.” Xu Bo stood aside and reported the information he’d received from the bodyguards. He also added his own speculation: “Could it be that the old man said something that upset him?”

“Perhaps. It seems our plan can now be put into action.” Owen Harold withdrew his finger.

Xu Bo was somewhat surprised. After all this time of planning, it was finally time to reap the rewards. All along, he had watched the young master endure humiliation and even go to the extent of feigning death—all for this moment. It broke Xu Bo’s heart.

“Very well, young master. I’ll give the orders right away!”

“Send some people to keep an eye on Martha Lambert in secret.” Owen Harold suddenly gave another order that Xu Bo found a bit confusing.

Thinking about it later, the young master was probably worried that those people might hurt Miss Martha Lambert. He’s really kind-hearted!

Owen Harold had no idea that his subordinate had given him a “good guy” card. All he could think about now was how to get rid of everyone who had framed him at once.

But what he really thought might not be known to others. He was still forced to wear the label of a “good person”. It was this decision that laid the groundwork for conflict between Marian Reid and Martha Lambert. But those are details for later; let’s not discuss them for now.

“Larry Harold, what on earth are you doing now?” Marcus Harold struggled to keep up with Larry Harold as he walked.

Marcus Harold was once a handsome and charming young man. However, due to his mother’s excessive indulgence, he gradually neglected his studies. Later, he fell in love with Larry Harold’s mother, who was a third-rate actress. Despite Nick Harold’s objections, they went ahead and got married.

At first, Marcus Harold tried to keep his composure. But soon, his promiscuous nature came through. He had affairs with countless women. His already poor health was completely ruined as a result.

The wife also died from severe bleeding after giving birth to Larry Harold.

These days, my strong and young son can’t keep up even when I walk a little faster. Yet he’s completely unaware of it.

“Haven’t you realized yet? Whether Owen Harold lives or dies, there’s no way we’ll be able to get our share of the family inheritance.”

Larry Harold stopped and glanced at Marcus Harold behind him with a somewhat gloomy expression.

Marcus Harold was startled by Larry Harold’s gaze. Before he could react, his attention was drawn to those words.

“What… what do you mean by that?” Marcus Harold was somewhat incredulous.

“What do you mean? It means all our efforts have been in vain! The old man said we should keep watch over those things for that dead man, waiting for him to come back and take them!” Larry Harold clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles cracked from the strain.

Marcus Harold felt a chill run down his back at Larry Harold’s words. But he also understood what Larry Harold meant. Anxiously, he grabbed Larry Harold by the clothes and asked, “What should we do then?”

“Since the old man values Martha Lambert’s fate so much, then, once her fate is gone, won’t everything belong to us?” Larry Harold’s expression was gloomy, causing Marcus Harold, who was holding his sleeve, to shiver.

“Then do you have any solutions?” Marcus Harold asked. For some reason, he now submitted to his own son, though he couldn’t even explain why.

Larry Harold looked at his father, smiled, and whispered his plan to Marcus Harold.

As Marcus Harold listened, his eyes widened in surprise. When Larry Harold finished speaking, Marcus Harold said eagerly, “I’ll arrange everything right now. Now, those things definitely belong to us!”

Watching Marcus Harold’s retreating figure, Larry Harold’s smile slowly faded. If it weren’t for this incompetent father, he wouldn’t have to worry about so many things.

Not even a child born out of wedlock could compare to them. If it weren’t for holding the title of eldest son of the Harold family, the eldest branch of the family would have been completely destroyed by the second branch by now!

Larry Harold couldn’t help but recall that warm smile from his memories. His uncle, Barrett Harold, was the only warm memory from his childhood, as he had lost his mother at a young age.

Uncle Barrett Harold’s decisive and efficient manner of handling things is still fresh in my memory. If Uncle were here, perhaps the Harold family would be on completely different tracks…

Larry Harold was torn by conflicting thoughts. On one hand, he hoped his uncle was still alive. On the other hand, he feared that if his uncle were alive, the Harold family would truly have nothing to do with the senior branch of the family.

Larry Harold brought his thoughts back to the present. He got into the car. Now that they had come this far, there was no turning back. There were only two obvious options: either the Big House would win, or everything would be exposed. It would depend on what Nick Harold decided to do with them.
