Chapter 7

“Is it true that hearing deteriorates with age? Would you like me to inform John Lambert so he can arrange for you to have the surgery?” Today, Martha Lambert seemed particularly determined.

Perhaps she’d been holding back her anger for too long. Seeing Alice Lambert coming alone, she couldn’t resist and immediately launched an attack with harsh words: “Typical of a mistress’s child—such brazenness is beyond what ordinary people could muster. Why have you become so diligent lately? Could it be you’ve taken a fancy to Larry Harold? Well, no wonder one works hard when there’s no gain to be had otherwise.”

Alice Lambert snapped back angrily, “Hmph! You’re good at talking big, but I wonder if you’ll actually have the courage to say those things when the time comes! I’ll make you beg me on your knees!” With that, she grabbed her bag and left.

The figure behind seemed like someone who was fleeing in panic. Martha Lambert smiled in satisfaction. Sure enough, it’s effective to deal with such people by using the same tactics they use against others.

Alice Lambert is good at talking, isn’t she? Then we should just attack her with words!

However, Martha Lambert didn’t know that the scene of her going all out was captured by cameras installed in the hospital room by Owen Harold not long ago.

“Huh, it’s quite spicy.” Owen Harold instinctively touched the corner of his mouth. He had almost gotten his skin bitten off at that moment.

“Young master, these are the evidence collected during the car accident involving the madam and the young mistress back then. I’ve brought everything here. All the previous evidence is also included.” Xu Bo pushed the door open and entered. As soon as he reached Owen Harold’s side, he noticed the image of Martha Lambert on the computer screen.

As Owen Harold’s assistant, Xu Bo certainly knew why this was being done. It was none other than Owen Harold using the excuse of being worried that someone might try to harm Martha Lambert and thus ruin his plans. He then had bodyguards install hidden cameras while Martha Lambert was asleep.

In his heart, Xu Bo raised Martha Lambert’s status a little higher.

It seems this young lady isn’t as insignificant as one might think. Look at her young master—he’s clearly already taken a liking to her.

“Show me that.” Owen Harold casually turned off the video and took the documents from Xu Bo’s hands.

“Young master, shouldn’t we get ready too?” Xu Bo asked.

Owen Harold stared at the information on his phone, seemingly lost in thought about these issues. He didn’t respond immediately to Xu Bo’s question either. After a moment of reflection, he said, “Yes. It seems like the other party will take action within the next few days. It’s time to get ready.”

“Very well, young master. I’ll have them get ready right now. It won’t delay your important matters.”

After such a long time of planning, it’s finally time to act now. The other party has also endured for so long and is finally ready to take action. It’s precisely because they’ve made these moves that it’s been possible to gather evidence so smoothly.

But Owen Harold can’t go out yet. If he does go out now and the other party notices, it won’t be easy to get him back under control.

Let’s leave this matter to his mother, Marian Reid, to handle. Owen Harold really trusts his mother’s judgment.

After discussing it with Xu Bo for a while, I asked Xu Bo to go and talk with Marian Reid. Right now, the Harold family is keeping a close eye on Marian Reid, so it’s not easy for her to come over here.

Only Xu Bo could pass messages back and forth. But Xu Bo didn’t dare to go there too often. Otherwise, it might arouse suspicion in others.

“What did Owen say?” Marian Reid asked, a bit anxious. After all, it had taken so long to arrange everything, and it affected her son’s future. It was important to pay close attention to this matter.

Xu Bo handed the documents to Marian Reid, explained Owen Harold’s arrangements to her, and also mentioned that Owen Harold had been paying unusually close attention to Martha Lambert lately.

“Is that so… I understand. Xu Bo, go back and tell Owen that I’ll take care of everything. He doesn’t need to worry.” A strange flicker passed in Marian Reid’s eyes, but it disappeared quickly, so Xu Bo didn’t notice.

“Very well, madam. I understand. Then I’ll go now,” said Xu Bo.

Marian Reid nodded and said, “Thank you for your help, Xu Bo.”

Xu Bo stepped back. Marian Reid sat in thought, tapping her fingers on the table. If Xu Bo were still there, he’d probably remark, “Truly mother and son—even their ways of thinking are the same.”

“It’s best not to be what I’m thinking. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless.” After a moment of contemplation, Marian Reid said these words softly.

But no one heard it, and it quickly disappeared without a trace.

Marcus Harold was also extremely frustrated. He kept pacing back and forth, until he finally couldn’t take it anymore. He rushed up to Larry Harold and asked, “You kept telling me to be patient all along. It’s been almost two months now. Until when do you expect me to keep waiting?”

“I endured before. I was forced to endure even when I wanted to kill that woman. But now, you can’t expect me to endure anymore, can you?! I’ve already endured for over a decade!” Marcus Harold was quite irritable.

Larry Harold had felt more than once that his father was a fool. With all that attention he’d gotten before, acting recklessly would only give others an excuse to exploit him!

“What’s the hurry? We’ve waited for years already. What’s the big deal about these two months?” Larry Harold glanced at Marcus Harold and replied in a somewhat perfunctory manner.

“Then give me a definite answer. When can it be done?” Marcus Harold took a deep breath, trying to calm his anger.

Larry Harold slowly picked up the newspaper on the coffee table and said, “You can now get those people to take action.”

Marcus Harold calmed down a bit after hearing what Larry Harold said. He thought about the feasibility of his next steps and realized that these days were probably the best time to take action. He decided not to waste any more time here.

“You’d better not try to fool me, or I’ll kill you!” Marcus Harold said threateningly. Then he went out to arrange things. He still trusted Larry Harold’s judgment.

It was just a way to vent my frustration these days. As for whether Larry Harold would hold a grudge against me? Marcus Harold thought it was unlikely. After all, he was still Larry Harold’s father.

But Larry Harold didn’t think the same way. With a gloomy look in his eyes, he watched as Marcus Harold walked away. If it weren’t for the fact that he was his father, how could Marcus Harold be so arrogant?

But it’s too soon. Soon enough, he’ll be able to get whatever he wants. By then, why worry about this at all?

Larry Harold averted his gaze, as if the person he had just seen wasn’t him at all.

“I’m almost ready too. After all, I need to take my new sister-in-law to meet my best brother~” Larry Harold sighed, as if regretting something.

But Larry Harold always felt that something wasn’t right. He had a sense of unease, as if someone was watching his every move from behind. No matter what he did, it seemed like he was under someone else’s control.

“Probably just my imagination,” Larry Harold shook his head and stood up, ready to leave. After all, there were still some things he needed to take care of. He certainly couldn’t let his kind father do everything by himself~

Martha Lambert slept comfortably in the ward. It was far more comfortable here than in a psychiatric hospital. But hardly anyone compared the two places to begin with.

“Hello, Young Master and Old Lady Harold. It’s time for the injection.” A young nurse pushed a cart into the room.

Martha Lambert glanced over. It was the young nurse who had been taking care of her all month. But Martha Lambert was a bit confused: “An injection? What kind of injection?”

“It’s a new arrangement by the doctor. He said this way, recovery will be easier,” the young nurse replied with a smile.

Martha Lambert felt something was off, but couldn’t put her finger on it. Logically speaking, any decision to add medical treatments should be discussed with Marian Reid first.

It’s not like now, where one suddenly adds something to their plans without thinking. Besides, Marian Reid just left not long ago. There’s no way they’d forget to tell her about this!

The young nurse was fiddling with the medicines nearby. Since she was wearing a mask, Martha Lambert couldn’t see her expression, so it was difficult to determine what she was thinking.

“Why did you suddenly decide to add this?” Martha Lambert asked, trying to figure out what was going on. She grew increasingly worried by the nurse’s actions.

This intuition helped Martha Lambert avoid Alice Lambert’s schemes several times while she was in the mental hospital. So, Martha Lambert really trusted her intuition.

“It was decided after consultation between the doctor and Mrs. Reid. It might be a recent decision, so Mrs. Reid hasn’t had time to tell the young lady yet.” The nurse tapped the syringe, getting ready to inject Martha Lambert.

Just as the needle was about to be inserted into Martha Lambert’s hand, for some reason, Martha Lambert decided to follow her intuition and refuse the injection.

Martha Lambert struggled to get up, knocked the syringe off balance, and then overturned the tray that was on the bedside table.

“Bang!”

The noises from inside the ward attracted the bodyguard outside: “Young mistress, what’s happened?”
