Chapter 6 Pregnant
Michael was chilling in his wheelchair, but the vibe he gave off was ice-cold.He shot a scathing look at Anthony who was groveling like a stray dog next to him. He spoke each word slow and steady, like he didn't have a care in the world..
"So Anthony, you really thought you could pull one over on me?" His voice was ice cold that it made Anthony visibly shudder.
"Michael, I swear to you, I didn't do anything! You gotta believe me!" Anthony was still on his knees, crawling at Michael's feet, tugging at his pant leg like a desperate puppy.
Michael just stared at him, his gaze ice cold.
His bodyguard stepped up and kicked Anthony hard. "Back off from Mr. Thomas!"
Anthony let out a scream, tears and snot all over his face. It was a pathetic sight. Elizabeth watched, feeling nothing but disgust. How had she ever loved this loser for so long? She'd been played by Anthony, and it was infuriating.
Anthony kept pleading, "Michael, I swear, I wanted you to wake up! I didn't betray you!"
Michael looked at him with a look that would have killed him if looks could kill "You think I'd accuse you without proof? You think I'm like you?" His eyes were full of murderous intent. "You bribed my lawyer while I was in a coma."
Michael's words cut like a poisoned dagger. "You had the guts to do it then, but now you can't even admit it?"
He swept his cold gaze over the hunched figure of Anthony before averting his gaze in disgust. Anthony's emotions were in shambles. Hearing this, he felt like he'd been given a get-out-of-jail-free card. He scrambled out of there like his pants were on fire..
Elizabeth watched Anthony's pathetic retreat, feeling a mix of pity and disgust. She glanced at Michael, who was still fuming, and decided it was best to make herself scarce. She couldn't afford to piss him off, but she could definitely avoid him.
Thinking this, she grabbed her bag and bolted from the living room as fast as she could. She had to go to the hospital today for a check-up. Her period was late, and the flow was super light. That had never happened before. Hopefully, it was just stress messing with her hormones.
Elizabeth arrived at the hospital, registered herself at the gynecology department and waited in the waiting room. When it was her turn, she entered the doctor's office and sat down. She explained her situation to the doctor who then recommended she take a urine test for HCG and an ultrasound to be sure.
About an hour later after she had done all the tests, she finally got the results. She was pregnant! Stunned, she turned to the doctor and asked, "But I had my period, how can I be pregnant?"
The doctor explained patiently, "That's not your period. It's early pregnancy with a threatened miscarriage. You need to take care of the baby." This news hit Elizabeth like a ton of bricks, leaving her in a panic.
"Doc, what if I don't want this baby?" Elizabeth asked in a small voice. How could she have Michael's baby when she was about to divorce him?
"Why didn't your husband come with you?" the doctor asked. "Even if you don't want the kid, you might want to inform him first."
Elizabeth's face scrunched up in frustration.
Seeing her struggle, the doctor glanced at her charteyes scrunching up in confusion, "You are only 21!" Are you even married?'
"An abortion isn't a walk in the park. It can lead to complications like heavybleeding that may result even in death. Even if you want an abortion, you need to think it through before hastily making a split second decision. No matter the issues between you and your boyfriend, the child is innocent.""
The doctor handed her the chart. "You're already showing signs of bleeding and you need to protect the baby. Whether the kid can be saved is still up in the air."
Elizabeth's heart softened a bit. "Doc, how do I protect the baby?"
The doc looked at her again. "I'll prescribe some medications for you to take. Go home and have bed rest then come back for a check-up next week."
Her back was drenched in cold sweat as she walked out of the hospital. She didn't know where to go and who to talk to, she felt completely lost.
But one thing was certain, she couldn't tell Michael. If he found out, he'd force her to get an abortion.
Her mind was a mess. She needed to calm down before making any decisions. Whether to abort or keep the kid, she didn't know.
She hailed a cab and went to find her mom, Nancy Wilson.
Since Nancy and Robert split, Nancy had been living with her uncle, Joseph Wilson. Joseph's family wasn't as loaded as the Jones Family, but they were doing alright.
"Elizabeth, you came alone?" Aunt Lisa Moore's face darkened when she saw her arrive empty-handed. "Look at you, all down and out. Did the Thomas Family kick you out? What? They don't want you anymore?"
Elizabeth lowered her head, cheeks burning in embarrassment.
Seeing Elizabeth drooping her head, her mom jumped to her defense. "Who are you to laugh at my daughter?"
Lisa shot back, "Nancy, where do you get the nerve to speak to me like that? If you're so capable, why don't you move out? Why are you still freeloading in my house?"
Elizabeth hadn't realized her mother had it so tough here.
"Mom, you should move out and rent a place!" Elizabeth said, struggling. "Actually, Lisa's right. I'm about to divorce Michael. Mom, after the divorce, I'll live with you!" Elizabeth leaned her head on Nancy's shoulder, sighing.
Nancy nodded. "Okay, I'll move out."
Within half an hour, they left the Wilson Family and got into a cab.
After settling her mom in her new place, Elizabeth headed back to the Thomas' Villa.
That night, Elizabeth tossed and turned, unable to sleep. She still hadn't decided whether to keep the baby or not.
In the painful struggle, Elizabeth finally fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning at nine-thirty, Susan knocked on the door. "Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Thomas has already left. You can come out for breakfast now."
Elizabeth felt a bit embarrassed that Susan had seen through everything.
After breakfast, her senior schoolmate called, saying he had a translation job for her.
"Elizabeth, this translation gig is a piece of cake for you. The pay is good, but it's urgent. Needs to be done by noon," the senior said.
Elizabeth was short on cash, so she immediately agreed. She will be able to take care of herself as well as her mom with the money she earns from the job.
