Chapter 3 3

Sasha Castillo.

I was never a lucky person. Luck simply is not something that has ever been written in my books.

When I was younger, during school plays, I was never fortunate enough to be a main character, much less a princess. Rather, I was either the tree in the background or the wall.

Point is, I always had the short end of the stick.

But of all my unlucky moments, I would put this situation at the very top. Getting held at gunpoint between two groups? Goodness, suddenly my mother’s marriage does not see like the worst thing to ever happen to me.

My train of thoughts were cut short when the buff man that held me at gunpoint pulled me further into his body, pushing the gun further into my head as if he was trying to penetrate through it.

I held back a wince, my head banging, and it was no longe just because of the alcohol that thrummed through my veins. Fuck, the gun had me sober.

“Back away or this bitch dies! You would not want a bloodbath, would you?” The buff man grunted, his voice sharp, but I did not miss the crack in it.

Then again, the group facing us seemed to outnumber his group. So, it is only reasonable he was scared.

I mentally smacked myself. I am in no position to reason his predicament when he is pointing a fucking gun at me!

And to make matters worse, the man at the other end seated on the couch, whom I could only guess is the boss around here, his smirk simply widened slowly. And the he parted his lips to speak, his voice registering in my mind for the first time.

“You think I care about a random woman?” His voice was deep, chillingly calm to the bones. It was the kind of voice that had knees weakening, and mine was no different.

I am pretty certain if not for the man holding me up, I would have collapsed on the floor. I tried hard to remain steady and not give myself away, but I could feel my insides quivering.

Neither side seem to care one bit about my life, and that was the scariest part of it all.

His eyes found mine, and there was no ounce of pity in it whatsoever. Only some cruel amusement, as if seeing my life hanging by a thread was entertaining. Just one look, and it felt as though see right through me.

Still holding my gaze with those dark and cold ones, he parted his lips to speak again. “Do it.” His voice was calm, but taunting. His head slowly turned to the side, his smile returning ever so slowly. “Kill her.”

My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach, and my lips parted, a shaky breath escaping my lips.

The actual fuck?

I squirmed on instinct, trying to get away from the man, but he only tightened his hold around me, moving his arm to my neck, pressing on it and cutting my airway partially.

“Shut up or I strangle you bitch!” He warned harshly in my ears, pressing the gun further to the side of my head, and I heard the clicking sound come as he removed the safety.

I held my breath, my entire body stilling as tears glossed my eyes.

My goodness is this how I will die?

Once satisfied that I was no longer squirming, the buff man holding me hostage then turned to face the other devil sitting across us.

“Listen, Reaper, just allow my men and I to leave here peacefully, and we won’t have any bloodbath. I’m sure you would want that either. I will make sure the supplies reach you on time tomorrow.” He tried to make negotiations, but all I could hear that stuck to my head was what he called the man.

Reaper…like the grim reaper? No wonder he is sending me to my death.”

“Oh, no no no.” The Reaper shook his head, bringing his cigar to his lips, taking a long whiff of it. He exhaled it slowly, the smoke surrounding him all around—but even through it, the sinister curl of his lips didn’t go unnoticed. “I am here for the bloodbath, Royce. You should know what happen to those who betray me.” His voice dropped. “You know the rules and still went against it. You should have been prepared to face the consequences.”

“Reaper, please. I have been working for you for so long. I worked for your father as well. You cannot ruin the relationship for yeas—“

“You talk too much.” The Reaper cut him off, his smile disappearing as his gaze shifted to the man, and I could have sworn I saw something in his expression change. “You break the rules, you face the consequences.” He repeated, stressing each syallable. “Rules exist for a reason. Sergio.” He had called out calmly, leaning back in the couch, his legs still parted.

Before I could register what was going on and who this Sergio is amongst the men there, bodies began to drop all around me as the guns from those on the Reapers went off. Except, there were no sounds, and as such, before the ones of this side could even retaliate or attempt to shoot back, they were already dropping only a bloody muddle all around us.

My heart got caught in my throat, my eyes wide as saucers as my gaze fell on the bodies in the floor. I felt my body shaking but I quickly realized it was not my body that was shaking but rather, of the man that held me. I could hear his shaky breaths as well as he looked around and realized all his camaraderie were dead.

Exhaling a shaky breath, his voice was just as shaky when he spoke. “If I am going to die, might as well kill this bitch as well—“

And I felt it when his hand moved to the trigger of his own gun still pressed against my head, seconds away from pulling it. I saw my life flash right before my eyes. I had resigned to my fate. That this is the way I would die.

Pathetically in the hands of a gang after being caught in their fight.

But it all happened so fast. One second I was waiting for the trigger to be released and my breathing to case and the next, the first sound of a loud gunshot came—the scene unfolding before my eyes just as quickly in the blink of an eye.

I saw it when the Reaper dropped his cigar on the ashtray, and I saw when he picked up a gun beside aimed it in my direction, his emotionless eyes holding no sense of holding back or anything.

I had two guns pointed at me. I know I was dying.

As the first tear rolled down my face, the gunshot went off.

One bullet went out before the second ever made it.

I saw it with my own eyes. Fast, fleeting, and dangerous.

Next thing I felt was warmth all over me, and I stilled, my breath caught in my lungs. For a second, I waited for the pain and the darkness that should come over.

But as I watched the man across me drop his gun calmly and I didn’t feel any pain, I found myself touching the wet warm thing on my face. Bringing my hand to my eyes, my knees weakened once more, and I found myself falling in the ground, my world spinning as I stared at the blood.

My body was shaking when I slowly turned my head around, my gaze falling on the now dead body beside me with a bullet home squarely in his forehead.

A shaky breath escaped my lips, and I was not sure how I got the energy to turn around again just as the men from the other group moved to clear the bodies, as if they were cleaning trash and nothing else.

As the others worked in the background to clear the bodies, my mind was entirely blank safe for what I had just witnessed. It struggled to make sense of what had just transpired, and yet, as much as I wanted to believe this was all a dream, the blood that coated my body and the lifeless body all around me.

At the very center of it all, my gaze fell in him. The man that killed without batting an eye lid.

He said something to one of his me  that did not register in my head in the slightest. It did not even sound like English, but the only sound I could hear was the ringing sound in my head. The conversation ended just as quickly, and the his gaze shifted to me.

And he fucking smiled.

A sardonic, sinister smile.

A breath of disbelief escaped past my lips as I saw black dots covered my vision, and my eyes closed, losing touch with reality.
