Chapter 6 Chapter 6
E L E N A
I spent the rest of the day unpacking the supplies Hawk had brought.
He had brought a lot of things, more than enough to last us a month. Canned goods, dry pasta, bottles of water, a small first aid kit, a carton of cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey.
He also brought a change of clothes for both of us. For me, he had brought some shorts, dresses and tank tops. For Jax, he had brought clean pairs of jeans, a black t shirts and leather jacket.
Jax was in the shower, and I couldn't help but listen to the sound of the water running, imagining him standing under the spray, his muscular body glistening with water. I shook my head, trying to get rid of the image.
He came out a few minutes later, a towel slung low on his hips, water dripping from his hair onto his broad shoulders.
And he did something that literally made my jaw drop to the ground. He took off the towel in front of me, and I got a nice view of the most gorgeous ass I had ever seen.
And then he turned, and I got a view of something else. Something that made my breath catch in my throat and I stifled a gasp.
He was semi hard. And he was big. No, he was huge. I’ve never in my life seen a man as big as him before. And he was right in front of me, and he was not even trying to hide it. He was showing it to me on purpose.
I tried to force my mouth shut and look away. But I couldn't. My eyes were glued to his cock.
He just smirked, and then he started getting dressed.
"What's the matter, little doctor?" he asked, his voice a low rumble. "Never seen a man's cock before?"
"Not one that looks like it was carved from granite and dipped in sin," I retorted, my voice coming out as a squeak. I immediately regretted my words.
He let out a low chuckle, a sound that vibrated through my entire body. "Is that so?"
He took a step towards me, and I took a step back.
"Oh, no you don't," he said, grabbing my arm. "You don't get to say something like that and then run away."
He pulled me towards him, my body flush against his. He was still shirtless, and I could feel the heat of his skin through the thin fabric of my tank top.
"You've been staring at me for years, haven't you, Elena?" he murmured, his lips brushing against my ear. "You've been fantasizing about this, about me. And now, here I am. All yours for the taking."
My heart was hammering against my ribs so hard I was sure he could feel it.
"I have not," I lied, my voice trembling.
"Don't lie to me," he growled, his hand sliding up my back, his fingers tangling in my hair. "I can see it in your eyes. I can feel it in the way your body is responding to me."
He was right. My body was betraying me. I could feel the heat pooling between my thighs, messing up my panties. I was aching for him, and I hated myself for it.
"You hate me, remember?" I said, immediately finding my voice. "You spent ten years making my life a living hell."
"And I'm going to spend the next ten making you beg for me," he murmured, his lips trailing down my neck. "You're going to beg for me to touch you, to kiss you, to fuck you. And I'm going to make you wait."
His other hand slid down my stomach, his fingers hooking into the waistband of my shorts.
"You're a bully," I breathed, my head falling back as he nibbled on my collarbone.
"And you’re the sick little doctor who loves every second of it," he whispered, his fingers inching lower.
I slid out of his hold and practically ran into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me and leaned against it.
His laughter boomed through the room.
"Let me know when you want me to join you, little bird," he called out. "I'm happy to help you wash your back."
"Fuck you, Jax!" I yelled, my face burning with embarrassment.
"You wish," he shot back, his laughter still echoing through the cabin.
I looked at myself in the mirror. My cheeks were flushed, my eyes were wide and my lips were parted. I looked like a woman who desperately wanted to be thoroughly fucked by her sworn enemy.
And I hated it. I hated him.
I spent the next hour in the bathroom, trying to calm myself down. I splashed cold water on my face, but it did nothing to quench the fire burning deep inside me.
When I finally came out, Jax was on the couch, arranging his guns and placing billets inside them. He had put on a pair of black jeans and was shirtless.
He glanced up at me, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Feeling better?" he asked.
"Peachy," I said, walking over to the kitchen to get a bottle of water.
I could feel his eyes on me as I walked, and I did my best to ignore him.
I sat on the couch, as far away from him as possible. We sat in silence for a while.
"I need you to tell me about my father's debt," I said, breaking the silence.
He stopped cleaning his gun and looked at me. "What about it?"
"I want to know what it was for. I've been paying it off for ten years, and I don't even know what it was for," I said.
He sighed, putting the gun down. "Your father owed the club a lot of money. He had a gambling problem. He took out a loan from the club, and he couldn't pay it back."
"What was the loan for?" I asked.
"To pay off his other debts," he said. "He was in deep with some very dangerous people. The Devil Vipers saved his life. And in return, he pledged your service to the club for ten years. But the other gang he owed took his life."
I felt a wave of anger and betrayal wash over me. My father had sold me. He had sold my life to pay off his stupid debts.
"And what happens after the ten years are up?" I knew what. I had been planning the day for a few months now, and it had passed.
"You're free," he said. "Your debt is paid. You can walk away."
"So I could have left a month ago?" I asked, even though I knew.
He was silent for a moment. "Yes," he finally said. "Your debt is paid in full."
What he didn’t know was that I had applied to medical school in another country a few months ago. I had gotten accepted, and I was supposed to leave in a few months. I had saved up for the last ten years, every penny that I had earned from the club. My escape plan was already in place.
I was supposed to leave this life behind. But now, with the bounty on my head, that dream felt like a memory.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.
"I thought you knew," he said. "I thought you were staying because you wanted to."
"Why would I want to stay?" I shot back. "Why would anyone want to stay in this life?"
"Some people don't have a choice," he said, his voice hard. "Some people are born into this life. They don't get to just walk away. And I don’t think you’d be leaving anytime soon with the amount of information you have on the vipers. That ten years is a myth, Elena. Because you will never be free from the vipers. Especially not now."
I somehow knew it. But, hearing him say it out loud proved it. It was like that with every motorcycle club. They’d deceive you, making you think you have a way out, when in reality there is no way out.
But I couldn’t help but think Jax also has his own secret reasons for keeping me here.
"You're all liars. Every last one of you. You talk about honor and loyalty, but it's all just bullshit. You trap people, you own them and you call it protection."
And for the first time, Jax did not have a comeback. He just watched me, his expression unreadable.
He knew I was right.
And that was why my eloping was a secret. A secret I was never going to tell a soul. Not until I was far, far away from here.
Just a few more months, and I was going to be free.
