Chapter 6 Midnight Revelations

"Mr. Blake, if tomorrow isn't convenient, we could reschedule," Olivia said nervously, her voice barely above a whisper.

Before Alexander could respond, she hurried away, perhaps afraid he might decline. Her footsteps echoed in the corridor as she disappeared from view.

Upstairs, Sophie stood by the window, the curtain pulled slightly open to create a narrow gap. Her prying eyes tracked Olivia's departure while her fingers rapidly typed a message on her phone. The blue light from the screen illuminated her concentrated expression as she sent the text.

A few moments later, a knock sounded at her door. Sophie quickly closed the chat window and went to answer it.

Seeing Olivia's clothes completely soaked through, Sophie pulled her inside with apparent concern. "My goodness! You're drenched! Come in quickly."

She grabbed a small blanket from the sofa and wrapped it around Olivia's shoulders, then hurried to the kitchen to prepare a hot drink. "Would you like something to eat? I can make you something."

"Don't bother, I'm fine," Olivia said, cupping the warm mug between her hands and sighing contentedly. "Nothing feels better than being home."

Olivia curled up on the sofa, taking small sips of her hot drink. Outside, rain poured down in sheets, but inside, everything was warm and comfortable. A comedy film played on the television while Sophie had retreated to her room. In that moment, Olivia felt truly happy.

Though she couldn't understand why her former self had been entangled with a scoundrel like James, at least she had a good friend like Sophie.

Perhaps from exhaustion, Olivia unconsciously closed her eyes. Her breathing quickly steadied as her chaotic thoughts quieted.

Just then, an intrusive knocking came from the door.

Half-asleep, Olivia irritably pulled the blanket over her head, trying to block out the harsh sound.

"Olivia!"

Hearing her name, Olivia jolted awake.

She turned to look out the window. Who would be looking for her so late, in this downpour? She shrank back, unwilling to deal with whoever it was.

Her phone suddenly lit up on the pillow beside her, the screen flashing a name: [James.]

Anger flashed in Olivia's eyes as she stormed over to open the door.

"What are you shouting about in the middle of the night?" Olivia glared at him. "You'd better have a good reason, or I'll report you for disturbing the peace."

The door opened outward, and fortunately, James reacted quickly, though his nose still caught the edge of the door. He winced in pain, rubbing his nose with tears in his eyes.

"Olivia, you're my fiancée. Can't I come check on you?" he asked.

Already irritated from being woken up, Olivia grew even angrier at his twisted logic.

"No, what's that head of yours for? I've told you before, the fiancée you want is Isabella. I've already agreed to step aside according to your wishes! Are you sure you haven't come to the wrong place in the middle of the night?"

"Say what you need to say and then get out!" Her voice was heavy with resentment.

"Wait!" James quickly blocked the door and reached for Olivia's arm. "I've been thinking, and I believe Stephen is really angry with you. If you wait until tomorrow to apologize, it might be too late. Come with me now to apologize!"

"Are you insane?" Olivia shook off his hand without hesitation. "I've already refused you. Don't you understand?"

"Stop this nonsense, Olivia, listen to me. Once this deal goes through, I promise to take you traveling next month! Didn't you always want to travel abroad?" James said urgently. Olivia wanted more of his attention, and this time he would give it to her!

To his surprise, Olivia showed no interest whatsoever. She punched his arm that was blocking the door. He backed away in pain, and Olivia pushed him outside, slamming the door shut.

"You're crazy! Get lost!"

"Olivia! Olivia, open the door!"

Olivia ignored him and headed back upstairs to continue sleeping.

On her way up, she encountered Sophie, who had come out to open the door after hearing the knocking.

Sophie leaned against the railing with a knowing smile. "Men are like that. The more you reject them, the more attention they give you. See how much James cares about you now!"

Olivia dismissively waved her hand. "Spare me. I don't care about that jerk anymore. I'm going back to sleep. I need to visit the hospital tomorrow."

With that, she went into her room without looking back. As for when James left, it was no longer her concern.

The next morning, the rain had stopped, and the sky was clear.

When she woke up, Olivia distinctly felt heaviness in her head and lightness in her feet.

Her nose felt as if it were filled with lead, making even breathing difficult.

Sophie had already gone to work. She had been very busy these days, and Olivia didn't want to disrupt her schedule any further. So she struggled out of bed and took a taxi to the hospital by herself.

Fortunately, the hospital wasn't crowded today, so Olivia's turn came quickly.

After being treated for her cold, she made a special visit to see a neurologist.

She inquired about her amnesia.

The doctor scheduled further examinations, but after an MRI scan, they found no evidence of blood clots or blockages in her brain.

Therefore, the doctor's advice was: find ways to expose herself to things that might stimulate her memory.

But what could possibly stimulate her memory?

Alexander flashed through Olivia's mind!

After all, he was the only person who triggered memory flashbacks for her!

But Alexander was difficult to approach. She needed an excuse to get close to him, but what reason could she give?

Just as Olivia was racking her brain, a pair of red high heels suddenly appeared before her, and a sweet yet somehow familiar voice called from above.

"Olivia?"
