Chapter 7 Chapter 7
Emerson
Darcy fell face down with a thud, and I jumped to my feet immediately. I lifted her from the floor, her dress, which she was holding, slid down, exposing perfectly round and white breasts. My throat went dry.
Her skin was smooth, and the only thing I wanted to do was to cover the breasts with my mouth.
I couldn't tear my eyes away from her chest, not even when she muttered shit and raised the dress to cover her breasts.
She was on her feet in the next second. Slowly, my eyes met hers, her cheeks were red from embarrassment, and then she bolted for the bathroom, leaving me in the same position.
I swallowed hard and stood up from the floor. What just happened? My body reacted to hers. I gritted my teeth and pushed back to the bed, sitting on it.
The image stayed afloat in my head.
Thirty minutes later, Darcy was still in the bathroom. The thought of her being shy in front of me made my lips curve upwards.
I stepped out of the room to give her the privacy she wanted, and also the space for her to get used to the news that we'd be sharing a bed.
I walked to my study, hands tucked inside my pockets. Rafe walked with me. "Everything is ready just as you asked," he said.
I stopped in front of a door and pushed it open. "What about the house, did you get it for the Mendez?" I questioned, walking straight to my seat.
"Yes, boss. The madam's parents are being taken care of just as you asked. But…" He paused.
"Speak!" I ordered.
"Mrs. Mendez doesn't want it," he informed me. I furrowed my brows. "She said she doesn't want your money and not to worry, she won't say a word to anyone."
I turned my chair from side to side. Was there anyone who would reject money? I had never seen or met anyone who rejected mine, because, well, I was quite generous when it came to gifting.
"She'd come around."
"And if she doesn't?" My gaze flickered to his. He held it but swallowed, "I mean, she's really headstrong."
"Then find another way to make her accept." I can't have my wife's family living in anything but luxury. After Rafe left, I stayed in the study, going over some documents.
If I was spending the next three days in Seychelles for my honeymoon, I would have to ensure everything was sorted out.
A soft knock came from the door, I waited for two seconds to pass before inviting him in. The door pushed open, and Davison stepped in.
"Should I bring your food upstairs or would you join Madam for dinner in the dining room?" he asked, his words punctuated by a heavy Italian accent.
"Bring it up." I said. I doubt Darcy would want to be anywhere near me right now. Well, I didn't want to. The image of her was still vivid. I closed my eyes and massaged my temples, pushing the image to the back of my mind.
About five hours later, I shut my laptop and stood, pushing my chair back. I massaged my shoulders as I walked to the door.
Darcy was tucked under the covers when I stepped into our room, her chest rose and fell softly. My eyes stayed on her for a few seconds, and I wrestled with the desire to walk over or just go take a cold shower.
Being back in the room reminded me of having her on the floor, of her bare chest an— I halted that thought as something electric moved through me, and my gaze sharpened. As if my legs had a mind of their own, I moved to her side of the bed.
The duvet covered her up to her neck, leaving just her head exposed. Even without any makeup on, she looked divine, and I had to stop myself from tracing her lips.
Shit! I need a cold shower.
Darcy stirred on the bed and turned her face to the other side. My jaw ticked as I forced myself away and into the bathroom.
The next morning, I woke up first and began my morning routine, which started with a glass of water and heavy lifting. I finished my morning exercise by 7am. Grabbing a white towel, I wiped the sweat off my face and neck as I stepped out of the gym.
"Sir, will you be joining madam for breakfast?" Davison, my chef, asked as I stepped into the sitting room. "Yes." I replied.
I walked past him, then stopped and turned, "Did you take her around the house?"
He looked away, scratched the back of his neck, and shook his head, "Not yet, sir. Yesterday, madam said she wanted to rest."
That makes sense, after all, we had a long day yesterday. She would have enough time to tour around the entire place when we returned. I dismissed him with a gesture of my hand and proceeded to the stairs.
When I came down for breakfast, Darcy was already downstairs, slowly eating her food, dressed in a tailored charcoal pencil skirt and crisp white blouse.
I settled into the chair opposite her. One of the maids placed a flat plate in front of me and placed some pancakes on it.
"Don't you think this is too much?" I asked, staring at her clothes.
"Good morning to you, too," she said, flashing me a smile which disappeared as quickly as it came. She cut a slice of pancake, smeared syrup on it, and placed it between her lips.
What a peculiar way of eating. I wanted to say, when her phone beeped, she picked it up, that was when I noticed her bag. Her eyes scanned the message, and she stood, grabbing a glass of milk, she took large gulps, and placed the half-empty glass on the table with a little thud. I furrowed my brows, noting something else that needed to be changed.
"Where are you going?" I asked when she decided to walk away.
She stopped in her tracks and spun around as though I just asked the most ridiculous question. "Work, isn't that obvious?"
I picked up a napkin slowly and wiped my lips. "Work?" I repeated, then said, "Sit." She didn't, she looked at me as though I had lost my mind.
I hated repeating myself, and hated explaining even more. "We are leaving the country." That didn't seem enough, so I added, "And you are not allowed to work.”
