Chapter 6
The doctor left, leaving me sitting alone in the hospital room.
A child? This was something I'd never thought about.
William was always careful. He never wanted kids from the start. After all, I came from a world where I couldn't even tell who my biological father was. William didn't want his child tainted by those dirty genes.
I never wanted one either. I found him dirty, too.
I thought our marriage would be a mutual redemption born from gratitude. Later, it got tangled up with too many interests and lies wrapped around genuine feelings, but it turned out everything was calculated.
The only pitiful one was that little life I never knew existed until it was gone. William had personally killed it by forcing me to drink.
Just as I was thinking about this, a sharp, icy sensation suddenly came from the blood vessel in my arm.
The nurse giving the injection was shaking badly.
The face under the mask looked more and more familiar.
"Karen..." Before I could finish, everything went black, and I lost consciousness again.
When I woke up again, I was jolted awake by strong alcohol being poured on me.
The sharp smell of alcohol filled the entire space, making me cough.
"Keep pouring!" Karen's voice was sharp and piercing. "Lily, didn't you think you were so capable?"
I instantly understood what was happening.
Bottle after bottle of alcohol was being poured over my head. The cold liquid ran down my hair and cheeks continuously. In her, I seemed to see William's shadow.
"Karen, is this all you've got?" I sneered.
Karen came closer, grabbed my chin, and forced me to look up. "Of course I'm not capable, but William is. Lily, open your eyes wide and look. Where are we?"
I looked around, and my heart sank.
This was my warehouse, surrounded by the last batch of goods to be delivered. Only William and I knew the password to this place.
Clearly, Karen could get in because William allowed it.
And everything Karen was doing to me. William knew about it too.
He was crying at my bedside just a moment ago, but the next second, because I asked for a divorce and refused to keep playing along with him, he let Karen do whatever she wanted.
