I came awake groaning with pain. Every muscle in my body ached, and a sharp, stabbing sensation radiated from my chest. Instinctively, I tried to sit up.

Strong hands immediately clamped down on my shoulders, urging me back onto the bed. "Lie still, Maya. You'll tear the stitches."
