Chapter 6 Behind

Damian's POV

I sat alone in my office ,silence filled the office. I could feel Aria's pain,and hear her cry for her brother. She was broken and shattered,I loved it.

Her brother's death cut through her like glass. She looked like she couldn't survive the loss. I set my phone down,then I remembered something. I picked up my phone and called Viktor and he answered the call.

“How's she?” I asked, because I told Viktor to call our family doctor earlier to check on her health.

“Her health is good, but she's grieving very badly,” he said.

She blames me. She thinks that he died because I didn't allow her to go home that night. I told him and I laughed.

“ I never knew that was coming Viktor,that someone already targeted her brother conveniently, Isn't it?” I let another humorless laugh.

“She doesn't know the truth” Victor reminded me I stopped talking And held the phone tight enough.

“And she won't , Noted?” I told him.

“Yes sir,but she doesn't have to suffer all this”He said.

“ You won't understand, I'm also doing this to protect her”

I asked him to call me if anything arises and keep a close watch on Aria.

I decided to call Aria on a trial.When I finally pressed the call button, she answered. Her voice was weak. I felt her pain but not much because I've seen things worse than this.

“You didn't answer my call earlier” I let out.

“Why would I, you already got what you wanted? You took me away when Caleb needed me the most now he's gone,” her voice cracked.

“Caleb's gone” from her words she was hurt to the marrow,but she has never been hurt like me.

I let them because in her eyes I was a villain.

“ Aria,” I said slowly.

“ Your brother was sick,you know that” She cried through the line. I leaned back in the chair pinching my nose. She cried through the phone.

“You don't get to tell me what I know” She spat suddenly if not for you he would have been here, he wouldn't have died.

“I don't know you but you a curse to me, you took everything My virginity, My freedom, My brother” She continued.

“This world doesn't wait for fragile people your brother was always at risk” I said.

And then she suddenly whispered

“I hate you”She ended the call.

Hate was familiar and expected but hearing it from her made me alive. I swallowed it down leaning back.She can hate me how she wants but she belongs to me now. I was all she had left.She needed me whether she admitted it or not.

Later that night, I went home after sorting things out with Viktor,I decided to check on her, I went to her room but it was locked.

“Aria”I called out.

“ Go away”She said like a baby.

“ I don't need your presence you shouldn't be here” she whispered

“Please don't kill yourself I need to see you”.

And then she opened the door she teared down in front of me like there was about three liters Of that could be let out. I didn't wipe them away neither did i comfort her.

I simply stood there letting her drown against me knowing she only has me.

Then her phone rung, It was Lila ,she didn't pick the first call and she called again. I left the room.

Arias POV

I didn't want to pick call I've received a lot of condolences today, but she could have called as soon as possible.i was mad at her. I tapped the accept.

“ Aria” Lila Voice was soft the way she always sounded when she sympathizes with someone.

“I'm sorry for what happened i would have come as soon as I heard but work was on my neck” she said

“Sorry….,sorry doesn't bring him back” I said and grabbed my blanket tighter

“Do you even understand what it feels to lose someone like this”

“I do,I really do” her voice wavered and I wanted to believe her,I wanted the comfort I couldn't give myself but it seemed like nobody really cared even Damian couldn't comfort me.

“ I know, I've…..,I've never sid it enough but I know how much he meant to you,and I know it really hurts, but life goes on” she said.

“ Life goes on,he fades….,like he never existed”

Lila cut in.

“Listen Aria,I'm always here for you” her tone dropping just slightly. “If you need anything…., anything at all,I'm here”

“I don't know exactly what to say,what to think of tomorrow,he's the only family I have left ever since my parents died. I can't handle all this alone,he also has to be buried” I told her.

“You can't do this alone,I'm with you in this,what are best friends for, but what has Damian said or…” she asked

“He moved his body to the morgue,he hasn't said anything important since then” I told her.

“ That's not fair,part of this is his fault. If you were at your house, maybe Caleb wouldn't have died. This got me thinking…., Maybe something fishy is going on?”

“What's that” I asked

“You said Damain threatened you to sign the contract marriage deal with him,right?” She asked.

“ Yes..,he did” I answered.

“Doesn't it ring a bell in your head”

“ Ehm, but nothing serious” I told her

“ Girl..,wise up,I know you more than this or have he slept with you already,lovey dovey” she teased.

“ Yh,we had sex real hard you know,he's really bad in bed” I said

“Oh,my Goodness lord. I see it now, you are blinded. Don't you know he could be the murderer, don't get me the wrong way but he could have killed your brother to get to you. Don't you know what this rich men do?” She said

“ Maybe, but we don't know yet” i told her

“ But there's only one way to find out”she said with seriousness.

“ Ok,fine. And what's that way?” I asked.

“You have to follow him around,watch what he does,see who he meets,he won't suspect you as long as act like nothing wrong and gives him hard sex. You need proff girl or else it'll eat you alive” Lila said.

I began thinking about it she could be very right.

Maybe she was right,Damain told me he wouldn't forgive an ordinary insult and also threatened me. But will be use a life to pay for an insult.

“I'll help you, I'll be with you every step. You don't need to do this alone” she added hope.

“ Ok,how do we start” I asked, my voice trembling.

“ Leave that to me,only follow my lead” she said and I nodded.

“ I need to sleep girl and think” I said

“ Alright babe,good night,I'll update you” she said and ended the call.
