Chapter 1 Regained memory on the day of the divorce.
"Let's get a divorce."
Adam Allen placed the divorce papers on the table, his expression indifferent and distant. Eva Joseph's eager smile froze instantly. "Adam, what did you say? I didn't quite catch that."
Adam didn't repeat himself. Instead, he slid a check across the table toward her.
"This is fifty million dollars, considered as compensation for the past three years."
Eva's lips trembled, and it took her a moment to find her voice again. "Can't we stay together? If there's something I've done wrong, I can change..."
Adam remained unmoved, his sharp, dark eyes locked onto her pale face, showing no hint of emotion.
"Eva, don't forget, the only reason I married you was to have you hold the position of Mrs. Allen for Rebecca." "Now that Rebecca is back, everything should return to its rightful place."
A buzzing sound filled Eva's mind, leaving her feeling as if she were falling into a bottomless abyss.
Of course, how could she forget?
He married her only because his beloved was too frail, and the Allen family wouldn't allow a sickly woman to enter their home.
To deal with the family's pressure, he chose her from among the elite socialites, someone with no background, because she posed no threat to his beloved and could easily vacate the position of Mrs. Allen at any time.
Now that his beloved had returned to health, her role as a stand-in shield was no longer needed.
"But I love you!"
Eva Joseph looked at him in panic, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
From the day he saved her from the sea, she had fallen for him.
Three whole years. Her blank memory had been filled because of him, and losing him meant losing everything she had.
"You know very well, I don't love you."
Adam Allen frowned at her tears, but his voice was cold and indifferent, offering her no hope.
"Once you sign the papers, my lawyer will handle the rest."
"You know my temper. Don't cling, and don't do anything unnecessary."
"And from now on, I don't want you to appear in front of Rebecca. It would upset her."
Eva's vision blurred, and the man's icy voice pierced her heart like sharp knives, causing her to shrink in pain.
Just then, an assistant rushed in, anxiously reporting, "Sir, there's a call from Willow Gardens. Miss Rebecca received photos of you and Mrs. Allen being intimate, and she fainted."
For the first time, Adam's usually composed face cracked. He jumped to his feet and strode out, "Get the car ready, we're going to Willow Gardens."
He took a few steps, then turned around, his gaze icy and piercing as he looked at Eva Joseph, his eyes filled with anger.
"Eva Joseph, you better pray Rebecca is okay, or you'll regret it!"
"No, I didn't..." Eva hurriedly stepped forward, grabbing his arm, desperate to explain. She didn't even know Rebecca Twist was back in the country, let alone send any intimate photos.
"Get lost!" Adam Allen snapped, shaking her hand off with disgust. She lost her balance and fell to the ground, her head hitting the sharp edge of the table, blood immediately gushing out.
Adam's fingers twitched slightly as he coldly glanced at the motionless Eva on the floor, then turned and left without looking back.
Soon, the villa was silent, with only Eva left.
After an unknown amount of time, Eva slowly lifted her head, blood trickling down her forehead, adding an eerie allure to her delicate features.
She squinted at the wide-open villa door, her tongue pressing against her teeth, and began to laugh softly.
"Eva Joseph, who would have thought you'd see this day?"
She stood up, casually glanced at the divorce papers on the table, picked up a pen, and signed her name with a bold, commanding stroke.
She pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
"It's me."
"Who the heck are you?" a young man's voice snapped, clearly annoyed.
Eva Joseph raised an eyebrow. "Mike, feeling itchy again?"
Suddenly, there was a loud bang from the phone, followed by a man's pained grunt. After a chaotic clatter, the man's shocked voice came back, "Holy crap, Eva Joseph, you're not dead?"
Eva narrowed her eyes. "I'll give you a chance to rephrase that." "Ahem, I mean, welcome back, my lady!"
After hanging up, Eva tended to the wound on her forehead and went upstairs to gather her personal belongings.
She took out a ring box from the drawer, revealing an exquisitely crafted men's ring inside.
It was a third-anniversary gift she had designed and made herself, intending to give it to Adam Allen today.
She let out a derisive laugh and tossed it into the trash can.
Along with it went the brain she felt had been chewed up by a dog over the past three years.
As the first heir of the Joseph Family, she had spent these years humbling herself before Adam Allen, seeking even a scrap of his affection.
The thought of it made her want to drag out the culprit who caused her to fall into the sea and lose her memory and have them punished severely.
Absolutely pathetic and foolish. After sorting through her personal belongings, Eva Joseph opened her laptop. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, quickly hacking into the surveillance system of Willow Gardens.
As expected, she witnessed a classic case of a thief crying thief.
In the video, a seemingly delicate woman skillfully orchestrated someone to send intimate photos in her name. Then, she put on a performance of disbelief and unbearable pain upon seeing the photos, culminating in a dramatic fainting spell. Eva let him deal with the Allen family, settling their debts. But this injury was not part of the deal.
No one could frame and hurt her and then pretend nothing happened.
After all, Eva Joseph was not one to let grudges go unavenged!
...
Two hours later, a convoy of luxury cars pulled up outside the villa, immediately drawing the curious gazes of nearby neighbors.
Soon, a handsome young man emerged from the globally limited edition supercar in the center of the convoy. He removed his sunglasses and opened his arms wide, his smile bold and confident as he greeted Eva. "Darling, long time no see."
Eva, wearing a baseball cap with her hands in her pockets, walked leisurely up to the young man. She gave him a once-over, her expression critical and disdainful. "Haven't seen you in years, and you've gotten even uglier."
Despite his words, Tom Pearson reached out and gave her a warm hug. "Without you around, I've been lovesick. Isn't that why I look so terrible?" he said, feigning a pout. He held onto her arm tightly, his eyes filled with a playful, intense warmth.
Eva Joseph clicked her tongue in mock annoyance and pushed him away before getting into the car.
"Don't doubt it. Ever since you disappeared, I haven't had a good night's sleep," Tom lamented, quickly following her.
Soon, the sports car roared to life, speeding away with the convoy, leaving behind a trail of whispers.
"Isn't that the young lady from the Allen family? Who's the young man picking her up with such a grand entourage?" "Wow, I've seen that young man before. He's the second son of the Pearson Family! I can't believe he knows the Allen family's young lady!"
"Look at them, they seem more than just acquaintances. They're practically inseparable..."
