Chapter 5 Outspoken

Eva Joseph looked him up and down, suddenly breaking into a smile. Just as she was about to speak, a voice full of resentment came from behind.

"Darling, how come I didn't know you were married?"

Eva's smile faltered, feeling a headache coming on as she turned around. "I'm about to divorce him anyway, so it doesn't really matter."

Tom Pearson wasn't ready to let it go, but Eva pinched his side hard, making him gasp in pain and shut up immediately.

Adam Allen watched their familiar, even intimate actions with a cold gaze, a hint of anger slowly creeping into his eyes.

Eva tugged Tom toward the door. As they reached it, she glanced sideways at Adam's expressionless face. "If you're too busy to handle the divorce papers, Mr. Allen, I can take care of it."

"The sooner it's done, the sooner you and Miss Rebecca can be official, right?"

"Seems Miss Joseph is more worried about finding herself a better option," Adam retorted.

Tom opened his mouth to snap back but was silenced by a sharp look from Eva. He shrank back, looking like a meek little spouse, which was quite a shock to anyone who knew his reputation.

"I got what I needed from Mr. Allen, so it's best to wrap things up quickly, right?" Eva Joseph said with a bright smile, leaving with Tom Pearson without looking back.

Oliver was in disbelief. "I can't believe Eva Joseph managed to get involved with Tom Pearson. Your ex-wife really knows how to keep things under wraps."

The Pearson family was as prestigious as the Allen family. Although Tom Pearson didn't run the Pearson family business, he was the old man's favorite, known for his stubborn and domineering nature. Yet, he seemed to be so compliant around Eva.

Harry, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up with a cold laugh. "Ha, who knows what lowly tricks that woman used to seduce Tom. Women from her background are never any good!"

"Harry, don't say things like that!" Oliver warned with a frown.

"I'm not slandering her! You didn't see how she was acting downstairs, clearly up to no good! We were all fooled by her before!"

The more Harry thought about how he had once been tempted by Eva, a woman he had always looked down upon, the angrier and more embarrassed he became. His words grew increasingly spiteful.

"You know, Adam, you should probably get checked at St. Anthony's Medical Center. You don't want to catch anything nasty!"

Seeing Adam Allen's face grow darker by the second, Rebecca Twist finally spoke up to stop him. "Bro, my head hurts. Can you take me home?" Harry snapped back to reality, realizing what he'd just said, and felt immediate regret.

Even though Adam didn't care about Eva Joseph, she was still carrying the title of the Allen family's young mistress. Harry's words were meant to smear Eva, but they also inadvertently disrespected Adam. "Sorry, Adam. I had too much to drink and lost my filter..."

Adam gave him a long look. "Rebecca isn't feeling well. You should take her home." Normally, Adam would have insisted on taking Rebecca himself, but tonight he just didn't have the energy to face her.

Rebecca bit her lip, wanting to say something, but ultimately lowered her gaze and stayed silent.

After the siblings left, the rest of the group wisely dispersed as well. Soon, only Adam Allen and Oliver remained in the private room.

"Don't take Harry's words to heart. You've been with Eva Joseph for three years. You know her better than he does!" Adam Allen rubbed his temples in frustration. "Help me look into Eva Joseph's background."

The close bond between Eva and Tom Pearson was clearly not something developed overnight. As Oliver had pointed out, Adam was certain that Eva hadn't been in contact with Tom during these three years.

There was only one explanation: Eva knew Tom before she lost her memory.

And tonight, the reason for Eva's sudden change in behavior could only mean one thing: her memories had returned.

That's why she decisively agreed to the divorce and withdrew all her feelings for him...

Thinking about this, Adam felt a sharp pain deep in his heart.

Inside the moving luxury sedan, Harry scolded Rebecca Twist with a stern expression, "If you're going to pretend, do it thoroughly. Don't you know Adam hates hypocrisy? He's already agreed to divorce Eva, so why did you go out of your way to set her up?"

Rebecca Twist pressed her lips together. "I can tell that Adam isn't completely indifferent to Eva Joseph."

She couldn't let any unexpected events occur.

Harry laughed in disbelief. "So, based on your little hunch, you almost messed everything up?"

"Adam values gratitude. As long as he believes in the life-saving debt from back then, he won't turn his back on me," Rebecca said, lowering her eyes.

"You better not slip up and let him find out the real savior is someone else," Harry warned coldly.

"I know. He hasn't suspected anything all these years, has he?" Rebecca lifted her gaze. "I don't want to see Eva Joseph in St. Jude's Bay!"

Thinking about Eva Joseph's stunning face, Harry gritted his teeth. "Don't worry. Once she leaves the Allen family, I'll take care of her for you. Instead of worrying about irrelevant people, you should focus on winning Adam Allen back!"

Back at the Grand Meridian Hotel, under Tom Pearson's persistent questioning, Eva Joseph finally confessed her connection with Adam Allen.

"So, you fell for Adam Allen after he saved you, agreed to be his stand-in wife, and now that his first love is back, he wants you to step aside?" Tom Pearson couldn't stop the twitch at the corner of his mouth.

Eva Joseph shot him a sideways glance. "Is that funny to you?" "No, not at all," Tom shook his head vigorously, trying hard not to show any hint of schadenfreude.

Who would have thought that Eva would find herself in this situation? She was always the one causing others distress, making them regret crossing her. Was this karma?

"So, what's your plan to get back at that jerk? Torture or dismemberment?"

Eva rolled her eyes. "We're even now. As long as Adam doesn't bother me, I couldn't care less about him."

Tom looked disappointed and clicked his tongue twice. "You know, Adam's got some serious skills and talent. If it weren't for his meddling mom, the Allen family would be much more successful."

"And his judgment isn't great either, letting a golden phoenix like you go for that cuckoo from the Twist Family!"

"Cuckoo?" Eva raised an eyebrow. "Is this some kind of switched-at-birth drama?"

"Not many people know this," the informant whispered. "Rebecca Twist was originally the child of the Twist Family's housekeeper. At birth, her mother intentionally swapped her with the real Twist heiress. The true Twist heiress was only found and brought back five years ago, but she mysteriously went insane and was sent to a foreign sanatorium. Since then, the Twist Family has kept her existence a secret."

Eva Joseph pondered over this revelation.

No wonder Adam Allen's mother was so against him marrying Rebecca Twist. It wasn't just about her frail health.

Suddenly, Eva narrowed her eyes.

She almost forgot how much Mrs. Allen had tormented her over the years.

In the scorching summer, she was made to run across three blocks under the blazing sun to fetch jewelry, only for Mrs. Allen to never wear it.

In the freezing winter, she trudged through snow to buy pastries, which Mrs. Allen then fed to the dogs without a second glance... There were countless similar incidents, and back then, blinded by love, Eva endured it all, hoping to please, only to be met with harsher treatment.

Thinking about it now, she couldn't help but laugh in exasperation. She picked up her laptop and hacked into Mrs. Allen's phone.

What she found was quite intriguing. As she looked at the information in her hands, a playful smile tugged at her lips.

I wonder what price Mrs. Allen would be willing to pay for these things?

Suddenly, she stumbled upon a few photos on her phone, and her expression gradually turned cold.

Just then, her phone rang. Seeing Mrs. Allen's name on the caller ID, she smirked. Speak of the devil, and she shall appear
