Chapter 5
VICTORIA'S POV
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
The constant beeping sound drew me out of my slumber state. Opening my eyes, I saw white painted walls and I frowned. The beeping sound kept ringing in my head and looking around, pain shot through me as memories of what had happened came to me like a flash.
I was at home; Madison had confronted me with all those truths. She had been in love with Zayden and even pretended to be my best friend just to gain access to Zayden.
How Zayden had walked in, and Maddie had shouted, framing me. The last thing I remembered was Zayden landing blows on my stomach, stealing the air from my lungs.
"Fuck! My baby!" I cried out jerking from the bed, and I heard clattering noises as the door opened and my mom rushed in.
"Oh my God. Toria, my baby. What have those monsters done to my princess?" Mom asked, her brows furrowing as she approached me, taking the seat beside me.
Mom was looking pretty as usual, her thick brown hair I had inherited from her sparkling with strands of grey hair. She had makeup and was dressed as if she was going to visit the Queen of England and not her daughter in the hospital.
"Mom? What are you doing here?" I asked, my confusion evident in my face.
Mom touched my hand, comforting me. "I came to visit my daughter, duhh. I received a call from Secretary Killian that you were hurt, and, in the hospital, I rushed in because your father was in the middle of a meeting." Mom explained.
My family had come to my rescue even after I had abandoned them all those years. I regretted ever turning my back on them and lying to myself that I needed to be someone else in order for a man to love me.
"I am so sorry, Mom. I am sorry I cut contact with you all those years, I know it was stupid and I have paid for my mistakes." I rumbled, feeling hot tears spring down my eyes.
"Hush, Toria, I am happy you didn't get killed, that's all that matters." Mom uttered.
Her cell phone started ringing and she sighed, "Excuse me, honey, I will take this call outside. I have a meeting with some women, so I might not be returning." She apologized as she kissed me on my forehead before walking out of the room.
I noticed the bodyguards stationed outside of the room and my stomach churned. Too much protocol was exactly why I left the first time. I needed to be a normal girl living a normal life, not some rich heiress getting tailed by men in tailored suits.
BING! BING!
I heard the notification sound blowing off my phone and I reached for it. I saw Zayden's name pop off on the screen.
ZAYDEN: Where the hell are you, Victoria? I need you to know that I am so disappointed by your behavior towards Madison. The doctor told me that if I hadn't rushed Maddie to the hospital when I did, we would have lost the baby.
You need to apologize to Maddie. You owe her that much.
ZAYDEN: I was invited to a banquet where many businessmen are going to attend. I am hoping to make some good acquaintances, that will help strengthen Hawksley enterprise. Since you aren't at home, I have invited Maddie to come with me. You need to get your ass home before we leave the banquet, I prepare an apology for Maddie.
"This asshole isn't for real." I blurted out angrily,
Zayden hadn't even considered the fact that I was hurt, and I was bleeding when he chose to save a lying Maddie over his pregnant wife.
I was bleeding!
The words resonated in my head, and a sharp cry escaped my lips. The bodyguards slid open the door before one of them rushed out to get the doctor.
A doctor appeared, her face offering a polite smile as she helped me lie on my back. "How are you feeling today, Ms. Blackwood?" She inquired.
"Is my baby okay? Before I blacked out, I remember losing so much blood." I cried out bringing my hand to my stomach, wishing that a miracle would happen.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am, but we had to perform emergency surgery when you got here. You lost your baby." She apologized.
The rest of the checkup was done in silence. I only nodded once when she asked me if I felt any pain and I told her what hurt the most was my heart.
Long after the Doctor had left, my head kept spiraling, the news I had just heard, so abominable that I couldn't believe it.
A rasp knock on my door and Secretary Killian approached me.
"We got your identification papers, Miss Blackwood. Your Lawyer, Mr. Taylor, said I needed to be discreet on getting my hands on such information. I can assure you that no one saw me enter and leave the Hawksley premises." Killian explained.
Secretary Killian had been working with the Blackwood family since he got out of college. He was a trustworthy person in the family.
"Thank you for your discretion, Killian." I said, taking the documents from him.
There were the divorce papers I had tricked Zayden into signing earlier. I noticed photographs of Zayden kissing Maddie and also intimate pictures that made my stomach grunt with discontent. The file also had the dubious consent my husband had made me sign to give away Lennie's donor heart.
He would pay for everything he had done to me.
I added my miscarriage report, among the list of funds I had transferred to Hawksley enterprise under the guise of investment.
With all of this done, I sealed it in a manila file, handing the envelope to Killian.
"I need you to keep this folder protected from Zayden Hawksley. Everything in here provides my freedom from this hell hole." I informed Killian and he nodded, walking away from me.
It was time to show the world who Victoria Blackwood truly was.
Slipping out of the bed, I stripped the IV lines providing fluid to my bloodstreams. Next, I reached for my patient robe and pulled it away. Looking at the designer box beside the bed, I pulled out the gown and slipped into it, the black open bust gown sticking to me like a new skin.
Opening the door, the bodyguards gasped, surprised to see me.
"Miss Blackwood," they all greeted in unison, their eyes gluing me on me, but no one dared question me.
"Take me home, I am done being a larky housewife. I am free now." I spat out.
"Yes Ma'am." They responded, following behind me.
As I sat inside the black sedan car, I watched how the driver started the car, riding away, passing houses. I wasn't focused on the scenery, but at how I was going to execute my revenge against Hawksley and his mistress.
I watched in delight as the Blackwood estate came in view. Time to execute my plan.
"Home, sweet home. Your heiress is back." I muttered beneath my breath as the door opened.
