Chapter 11: Don’t Come Make Trouble

George stared at the rejected friend request, his brows furrowed tightly.

Casey rejected him?

Before he could think it through, David faxed over a document.

Divorce papers!

And Charlotte actually wanted to take a third of his assets!

George dismissively tore up the agreement.

Just as he thought—she was clearly playing hard to get, never actually intending to divorce him.

Thinking about how Charlotte was still looking for evidence that Jennifer kidnapped Sarah, George felt irritated again.

She clearly knew he'd been stressed out lately over Jennifer's condition. Why couldn't she be more understanding?

George pinched the bridge of his nose and called David.

"Transfer one million dollars to Charlotte's account and send her some jewelry. Get her to quiet down."

After hanging up, George stared at Casey's social media profile picture again.

That familiar light blue tone always gave him a strange sense of déjà vu.

The next day, Charlotte and Sarah left the island early.

Not long after returning to her apartment, she got a call that a patient with serious psychological issues was waiting for her at the hospital.

After sending the difficult patient away, Charlotte let out a long breath.

Her assistant Iris Chambers handed her a glass of water, looking at her with excitement.

"You're amazing! You managed to calm down a suicidal patient. I was so scared he'd actually jump."

Charlotte was wiping her hands with sanitizer. Hearing Iris's words, she smiled casually.

"He's just a kid with some psychological issues. Nothing to be afraid of."

Just a kid?

Iris gave her a thumbs up in admiration.

Casey really lived up to her reputation with all those awards. So impressive.

Such a difficult patient became a gentle, harmless child in her hands.

Charlotte was still on vacation. She'd only come in today because the patient's situation was special. Now with no work left, she immediately took off her white coat to leave.

Just as she reached the door, there was suddenly a commotion outside.

Then the door was pushed open forcefully.

George's mother, Opal Rivers, appeared in the doorway.

"You?" She looked at Charlotte in surprise. "What are you doing here?"

Seeing Opal, Charlotte was equally surprised.

She instinctively turned to look at Iris: Another patient?

Iris looked just as confused.

She had no idea how someone had barged in either.

Seeing Charlotte ignore her, Opal didn't bother wasting words with her.

Opal pushed Charlotte aside and grabbed Iris's hands, looking at her with excitement.

"You're Casey, right? Please, you have to save my daughter-in-law. She has severe depression and keeps threatening suicide. We're so worried."

Iris instinctively tried to pull her hands free.

"You've got the wrong person. I'm not—"

Just then George suddenly walked into the office, cutting off Iris's words.

"Charlotte?" George looked at her, surprise flashing quickly in his eyes, then asked, "What are you doing here?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, his face hardened with impatience.

"You're following me!"

Charlotte let out a cold laugh. "Please use your brain. Follow you? What would I gain from that?"

After speaking, she looked at Jennifer, who George was protecting.

So the daughter-in-law with depression Opal mentioned was Jennifer?

The mockery in her eyes deepened.

"Mr. Summers, please sign the divorce papers soon. Otherwise, if word gets out that Ms. Walsh is the other woman, that wouldn't look good."

Hearing her words, Jennifer shrank into George's arms in fear.

She looked at Charlotte with tearful eyes.

"Charlotte, you've misunderstood my relationship with George. I'm not the other woman."

"You don't need to explain to me. I wish you two all the best together." Charlotte cut off Jennifer.

Then Charlotte glanced casually at George and walked past them toward the exit.

"Stop!"

Just as she reached George's side, his hand instinctively grabbed her arm.
