Chapter 9: She Thinks of Him Like This?

George's heart suddenly tightened.

He saw Charlotte struggling to keep her balance, bright red blood slowly spreading from the wound on her calf into the seawater.

The smell of blood would attract sharks!

"George," Jennifer's voice trembled. As George was about to reach her, she lunged forward and grabbed his arm tightly with both hands. "I'm so scared."

George's gaze switched rapidly between Charlotte and Jennifer.

Charlotte knew how to dive. She should be able to get away.

"Come with me!"

In the end, he gritted his teeth, put his arm around Jennifer's waist, and swam toward the shore with her.

Charlotte watched their determined retreating figures, a sharp pain shooting through her chest.

Sure enough, when it came to life and death, his choice would never be her.

Just then, a shark had already swum to within ten yards of her.

She could even clearly see the massive gray shape beneath the water's surface.

Fear made her body go rigid, and even her breathing stopped for a moment.

"Charlotte! Get out of the way!" Sarah screamed at the top of her lungs from the shore.

That shout snapped her back to reality.

No, she couldn't die here!

After coming to her senses, Charlotte plunged into the water.

Visibility underwater was blurry, but she could feel the shark closing in.

She swam desperately to the side, the wound on her leg sending piercing pain through her as the seawater irritated it.

She swam faster and faster, and the air in her lungs was depleting just as quickly.

Just when she was about to give out, the roar of an engine approached from the distance.

Jack arrived just in time on a yacht, with a safety officer on board using a fishing rod to drive away the shark.

"Give me your hand!" Jack reached out to her.

Charlotte used her last bit of strength to grab his hand.

Pulled onto the boat, she collapsed on the deck, coughing violently.

"Charlotte!" As soon as the yacht docked, Sarah rushed over, her voice still carrying lingering fear. "You scared me to death! How could there be sharks in this place?"

Charlotte looked at the shark gradually moving away on the water's surface, her eyes growing cold.

This area was a safe zone. The shark's appearance was definitely not a coincidence.

Not far away, Jennifer watched Charlotte with eyes full of resentment.

That bitch really had good luck. Even after all that, she still wasn't dead.

George looked at Charlotte on the yacht and breathed a sigh of relief.

He was about to let go of Jennifer's arm when it was suddenly grabbed.

Jennifer looked at him with tearful eyes. "George, I feel terrible. I can't breathe."

She clutched her chest, her face full of pain.

George quickly looked away and picked her up again, running toward the hospital.

"I'm taking you to the hospital now. You'll be fine."

When Charlotte looked over, she happened to see a hurried retreating figure.

She lowered her eyes and laughed at herself mockingly.

In the most hidden corner of her heart, did she still hold a shred of hope for George?

"Charlotte!" Sarah's tearful voice successfully pulled her thoughts back.

"Charlotte, you're hurt!"

Sarah's sudden exclamation rang in her ears. Charlotte looked down at her still-bleeding calf.

Jack spoke up as a reminder, "Looks like the shark must have come because it smelled the blood."

Charlotte didn't pay much attention to the wound on her calf, but Sarah beside her was so anxious her eyes turned red.

"It must have been that bitch Jennifer. Let's go to the hospital first, and then I'll get someone to expose them. George, that bastard, doesn't like you but still married you, and after marrying you, he doesn't cherish you. They're both crazy. It's disgusting."

Listening to her rambling, Charlotte's expression remained indifferent.

"Help me check later why there are sharks here. Let's go to the hospital first."

If the wound got infected, she would be the one suffering in the end.

At the hospital, Sarah had Jack stay with Charlotte while she went to get medicine.

Soon Sarah came back huffing with the medicine.

"Just my luck, I ran into that pair of jerks on the way."

Looking at Sarah, who was as puffed up as a blowfish, Charlotte remained quite calm.

"There's only one hospital on the island. Isn't it normal to run into them?"

"Not normal at all." Sarah continued to complain. "Isn't Jennifer George's precious treasure? At a time like this, George should be using his private jet to take Jennifer back and give her the best medical team. What's he doing here being disgusting?"

Charlotte smiled dismissively. "Maybe he wants to see if I'm dead. After all, if I died, he wouldn't have to pay divorce compensation and could be with Jennifer openly. How nice."

Outside the door.

George's lips were pressed tight, his brows furrowed, his expression somewhat unpleasant.

When he learned Charlotte had also been sent here, he wanted to come check on her. He didn't expect to hear such words.

So in her heart, he was this kind of despicable person?

George felt very uncomfortable. An indescribable irritation surged up, disturbing his thoughts.

He pushed open the door and walked into the hospital room expressionlessly.

The people inside immediately looked toward the door at the sound.

Seeing it was George, Sarah frowned, her face showing displeasure. "What are you doing here?"

George walked straight to Charlotte.

"Jennifer's health isn't good. You know how to dive. I thought you could swim back to shore."

Charlotte laughed mockingly and interrupted him. "Mr. Summers, don't put on an act in front of me. Jennifer kidnapped Sarah to lure me there, then pushed me into the sea. That's an undeniable fact."

George looked at the wound on her calf and said nothing for a long time.

Charlotte covered the wound with her hand and issued an order to leave expressionlessly. "If Mr. Summers has nothing else to say, please leave."

"Charlotte!" George's face darkened, looking displeased.

Sarah immediately stood in front of Charlotte, hands on her hips, looking at George aggressively.

"Why are you yelling at Charlotte? George, you're really cold-blooded! Charlotte was pushed into the sea by Jennifer. You're condoning her crime."

George's gaze remained on Charlotte's face.

Seeing that she hadn't given him a single glance, George grew increasingly irritated.

It shouldn't be like this.

Before, she would come crying to him even over a small scratch, but now, with such a big wound, she had nothing to say?

"I never wanted you dead." George spoke.

As soon as the words left his mouth, he was somewhat surprised himself.

Why was he saying these things to Charlotte?

Charlotte raised her head, her eyes full of mockery.

She glanced at George, then quickly looked away.

"What about Jennifer? Does she want me alive too?"

Seeing the mockery in her eyes when she mentioned Jennifer, George explained again. "Jennifer's situation is a bit special. She just wanted to scare you a little. She absolutely didn't mean for you to die. Don't assume the worst."

"Shut up!"

Hatred burst from Charlotte's eyes.

She pointed at the door. "Get out."

"Charlotte! I'm trying to talk to you properly. Can you stop being so unreasonable?" George raised his voice too.

Was all her past gentleness just an act?

George unconsciously rubbed his watch, his brows raised, barely able to suppress the irritation in his heart.

"Jennifer, she—"

"George!" Jason came running over anxiously. "Jennifer's depression has flared up. She's demanding to see you. You need to go quickly."

Hearing this, George instinctively observed Charlotte's expression.

"I'll come back to check on you later."

With that, he walked out without looking back.
