Chapter 3 Mr. Monroe’s Apology
In the end, Bob had no choice but to give in under Ivy's threat and agree to apologize.
The next day, the school assembly officially began. The auditorium was packed with students, and news of Ivy's cheating had already spread throughout the entire school. Many people started loudly mocking her the moment she stepped into the auditorium.
"Hey, did you guys hear? That idiot Ivy actually got a C in math on the midterm exam! Does she really think copying answers can make her smart? Hahaha."
"I know, right? I bet she can't even memorize ABCD, yet she did pretty well in English. Just thinking about how hard she must have worked to cheat is hilarious. Haha, good thing the principal caught her."
......
Charlotte's eyes were full of smugness as she listened to these words. Her friend kept saying, "Lottie, you're both from the same family, so how can you be so different? You get good grades, you're pretty, and you honestly got a B+ on the midterm."
"But that sister of yours is ugly and stupid. Even with cheating, she could only manage a C. Now she's become the laughingstock of the whole school. It's so embarrassing."
"If I were part of the Cooper family, I would've cut ties with her a long time ago."
Charlotte walked past Ivy from behind with her chin held high, whispering, "Ivy, you don't really think the principal will believe you didn't cheat just because you memorized the answers and retook the test, do you?"
"Want the principal to apologize to you? Dream on!"
But Ivy just stood there calmly, yawning. Her expression was cold, as if she didn't care about Charlotte's words at all.
"Ivy, they're all talking nonsense. Don't take it to heart."
Ivy turned toward the voice. Angela King stood beside her, looking nervous. She had a small, thin face, pale and sallow—not unlike Ivy's own.
Angela's birth mother was originally a maid for the Cooper family and had sacrificed herself to save old Mr. Cooper. The Cooper family took Angela in as an adopted daughter and raised her at home.
However, Angela had always been slow to learn things since childhood, and with no particular talent for academics, her grades were nowhere near Charlotte's level.
So naturally, Elizabeth couldn't stand someone who brought shame to the family. She would secretly mistreat Angela at home.
Fortunately, Angela had old Mr. Cooper backing her up, so Elizabeth wouldn't go too far publicly.
As for the original Ivy, who had only returned to the Cooper family as their real daughter less than a year ago, she had no one to support her and lived worse than Angela.
"Ivy, when you read your self-criticism later, have a better attitude. Mr. Monroe has a good relationship with the Cooper family, so he naturally won't make things too hard for you."
"Don't be sad either. Just listen to what those people say and forget it. Don't take it to heart."
Ivy's gaze softened from its previous coldness. Based on the original's memories, this Angela was one of her few true friends.
It's just that this friend didn't know what was about to happen.
"Ahem, alright, everyone quiet down."
The noise in the auditorium died down considerably. The pot-bellied Bob walked onto the stage with a microphone. Before he could speak, some troublemaker who loved stirring things up shouted loudly,"Mr. Monroe, I heard someone cheated on the midterm exam. Someone with such poor character must make a public self-criticism!"
The voice was particularly loud. Bob's face darkened, and the students in the auditorium all turned their malicious gazes toward Ivy.
But then they were surprised to hear Bob say, "Regarding the cheating incident on this midterm exam, I first want to apologize to student Ivy."
"What?!?!"
"What's going on?!"
As soon as he said this, all the students were shocked. "Why is the principal apologizing? Shouldn't Ivy be the one going up there to apologize and read a self-criticism?"
"Did something get mixed up? Mr. Monroe, what's wrong with you?!"
Bob held the microphone, his eyes full of reluctance, but his mouth spoke words against his will.
"On this midterm exam, we discovered abnormalities in student Ivy's grades and conducted an investigation. Unfortunately, the surveillance camera in the exam room malfunctioned, so no useful footage was captured."
"For this, I deeply apologize."
"I hereby apologize to everyone and to student Ivy."
Then Bob bowed deeply, his round figure making Ivy smirk with a mocking sneer.
Heh. So this fat guy was digging a trap for her here.
By deliberately explaining that the surveillance didn't capture the exam footage and speaking in such vague terms, wasn't he basically saying she did cheat, just that there was no evidence?
"Ivy! You actually made the principal apologize to you. Do you really think you earned that C-grade test score yourself? Have you no shame?"
"You should be glad you didn't get caught. Everyone knows you're an idiot. Everyone knows you got that C by cheating. Why should the principal apologize to you?!"
For a moment, everyone in the auditorium became agitated. Charlotte hid to the side, gloating, "Mr. Monroe, you did nothing wrong. We all support you. Why should you apologize to an idiot?!"
"Right, Mr. Monroe, we support you. Take back your apology! A bitch who did something wrong doesn't deserve this from you."
Bob stood on the stage holding the microphone, looking troubled. "Thank you all for your support. I'll get the surveillance fixed as soon as possible."
But the corners of his mouth couldn't help showing smugness.
Heh, done with the act?
Ivy straightened her back and suddenly started walking toward the stage in the auditorium. Her presence was cold. Bob stiffened his neck and said, "What, what are you doing?"
Ivy rolled her eyes and snatched the microphone from him, then looked down at the students below with pride, saying coldly, "Mr. Monroe, no wonder so many people say that since you became principal, the school's average grades have been dropping again and again."
"You, what do you mean?"
Bob's fat face turned red, and he was quite angry.
"The meaning is so simple, and you can't even understand it?"
"You don't even know how to apologize properly. Under the leadership of someone with a pig brain like you, this school will only go from being number one in New York to dead last. Before fixing the surveillance, fix your pig brain first!"
Being insulted in public, he was stunned speechless. Before he could speak, Ivy turned to face the students below and said coldly, "I'll say this one last time: I did not cheat on the midterm exam."
"Anyone who's not satisfied can come ask me for help anytime. But if I hear you gossiping again, watch out—I'll pull out your tongues one by one!"
This proud version of Ivy left everyone present too shocked to speak. Someone in the crowd shouted defiantly."What are you acting so high and mighty for! Get down from there!"
The next second, a bucket of water suddenly came pouring down from above Ivy's head!
