Chapter 6 Kneel Down and Apologize to Me
Elizabeth, who had been so arrogant just moments ago, didn't dare make a sound now. Old Mr. Cooper had no idea that Ivy was her biological daughter, and if he found out, she would be in serious trouble.
The servants nearby also wisely shut their mouths, and then Ivy took Angela back to their room.
After Ivy's scene that afternoon, the Cooper villa went unusually quiet.
Before, Elizabeth had always bossed Ivy around like a servant—do this, buy that, run errands.
And the Cooper family servants were experts at reading people's faces. They would bully her openly and behind her back on a daily basis. Today's afternoon drama had at least earned her some peace and quiet.
Ivy lay on the rocking chair in her room, squinting sleepily. She was planning to start exercising tomorrow when there was a knock at the door.
"Ivy, can I come in?"
"Come in."
Angela carefully pushed open Ivy's door. They both lived in corner rooms on the first floor, right next to each other. The rooms were cold and damp, with poor air circulation year-round, and even the quilts had a musty smell.
From another perspective, they were both pretty pitiful.
"Ivy, I just did a set of practice problems and didn't really understand them, so I wanted to ask you."
Although Angela wasn't the brightest, she was hardworking, very eager to learn, and had a kind nature.
She stood beside Ivy holding her notebook with hopeful eyes. Ivy lifted her eyelids, glanced at her, and said flatly, "They all say I'm an idiot. Aren't you afraid I'll teach you wrong?"
Angela shook her head repeatedly. "Of course not. You only came to school half a year ago and already got a C on this test, which means you're better at studying than me, so I want to learn from you."
"You believe I didn't cheat?"
"Of course! Those people don't know you so they talk nonsense, but I know you definitely didn't cheat!"
As she finished speaking, she deliberately pulled out a small handful of candy from her pocket and stuffed it into Ivy's hand. "Ivy, try these. I saved up money to buy this candy. It's really good."
Faced with Angela's sincere request for help, Ivy's heart softened a bit. She sat up straight, glanced at the problem in her hand, and said without thinking, "This problem just uses the Pythagorean theorem directly. Then plug the numbers into the formula, calculate it, and the answer is D."
"Huh? Ivy, you haven't even looked at the problem yet."
Angela flipped to the answers in the back of the book, and it really was D!
Then Angela spent quite a while understanding and applying the solution method Ivy had just explained. Twenty minutes later, she said excitedly, "Oh my God, I actually solved it using your method!"
But Angela still didn't quite believe it. This problem was somewhat difficult—how could it be solved in one second? Could it just be lucky guessing?
Even if Ivy had been studying hard, she couldn't be this smart, could she?
Angela stubbornly flipped to another problem, a very difficult word problem.
"Ivy, look at this one..."
Before Angela could finish, Ivy glanced at it once and said, "This problem has the same approach as the last one, just asks the question differently. Use the same formula to solve it."
"Huh? The two problems are the same?"
Angela couldn't quite believe it, but still did as Ivy said. Half a minute later, she shouted excitedly, "Oh my God! You're right! My answer matches the one in the book!"
Angela praised Ivy excitedly:
"Ivy, you're amazing! You're not the fool they say you are at all—you're incredibly smart!"
Ivy said, "That's because I was too lazy to study before, too lazy to do the tests."
"But even someone as smart as you still gets bullied by them. Why?"
"If the scar on your face could heal and I could become smart, would those people at school stop bullying us?"
Ivy, with her eyes closed, snorted coldly. "You're overthinking it. No matter what we become, those people will only bully the weak. If you don't want to be bullied, you have to become strong yourself."
Although Angela's words didn't make much sense, they did give Ivy an idea.
The reason the original Ivy was mocked as ugly was mostly because of the hideous scar on her face.
The original Ivy had grown up in the countryside. When she was five, while working in the fields, she accidentally got cut by a sickle. The family was very poor at the time, so after stopping the bleeding, they didn't treat the scar, and it remained to this day.
But the scar issue was no problem for her at all. Blood Dove was a top expert in biochemistry—developing a scar removal formula would be a piece of cake.
The next day, on the way to school.
Ivy was thinking about developing the scar removal cream when suddenly there were hurried footsteps from behind. Then a small figure walked up beside her and handed her a bag of bread.
"Ivy, here. You probably didn't eat much this morning, right? Consider this payment for helping me with homework last night."
After Ivy spoke to Elizabeth like that yesterday, the Cooper family naturally didn't prepare breakfast for Ivy today. She hadn't eaten anything since last night.
However, going hungry for a meal or two wasn't a big deal for her.
"No need, you eat it."
She thought Angela would leave after that, but instead she pushed the bread forward again. "You take it. I secretly ate at the Cooper family this morning, so I'm not hungry now."
Ivy hesitantly reached out to take the bread when suddenly a sharp, mocking voice came from nearby. "Well, well, two ugly girls hanging out together now?"
The young lady Jane stood with her arms crossed, her head held high, disdain in her eyes. Several tough-looking girls followed behind her as the group walked through the school gate in force, and many students on their way to school moved aside to let them pass.
Angela was scared by this scene and shrank back, hiding behind Ivy.
Ivy fearlessly met Jane's gaze. She had no interest in meaningless provocation and turned to leave.
But this attitude made Jane even angrier. She stepped forward to block Ivy's path and said loudly, "Don't think that just because yesterday's matter is resolved, you're off the hook."
Although the sapphire yesterday wasn't stolen by Ivy, she had made Jane lose face in front of the whole class, which made the young lady very unhappy.
Several female classmates following Jane said arrogantly, "If you've offended our Jane, you should kneel down and apologize!"
"That's right, Ivy. If you kneel down and apologize to Jane in public right now, she might calm down and let you off. Otherwise..."
Before the girl could finish, Ivy snorted coldly and swept her gaze over them.
"In broad daylight, what kind of daydream are you having? Nice fantasy."
"What!?"
They had expected Ivy to be scared and apologize carefully, but instead she was this defiant. Many onlooking students covered their mouths and laughed, looking at Jane with a hint of schadenfreude.
This made Jane's temper explode. She angrily stepped forward and slapped the bread out of Ivy's hand, saying harshly, "How dare you act tough with me! I'll teach you a lesson!"
