Chapter 2

The crowd was pushed aside.

Carl Walker, the town administrator, rushed in breathlessly and knocked away Jasper's iron rod.

"Are you all crazy? This is robbery!"

Seeing Carl step forward to stop them, I felt a warmth in my heart.

In my previous life, when the rainstorm hit, Carl was swept away by the flood while trying to save children trapped on a rooftop and never made it onto my boat.

He probably didn't know what happened on the boat afterward.

"You damn bastard, mind your own business!"

Jasper stumbled from the push and pointed at Carl viciously.

"You don't get a say in this!"

The villagers were also seeing red, and some even started pushing Carl around.

"Enough!"

I stood in front of Carl and pulled out a heavy set of keys.

"Here are the keys. Take them and get lost."

Philip's eyes immediately lit up as he snatched the keys from my hand.

"Now that's more like it, Kevin."

A satisfied smile appeared on Philip's face.

Jasper warned from the side,

"Smart move. Now get lost, and don't let me see you on that boat again!"

Getting the keys wasn't enough—they set their sights on my household items.

"Kevin, the flood's coming soon. Your stuff will just sit here anyway, might as well put it to good use."

Several villagers reached out to start moving things.

"Put everything down!"

Carl looked at them in anguish, unable to understand how they'd all become like this.

"Have you all gone crazy? Are you trying to be bandits?"

"If you dare take anything, I'm calling the police right now!"

Hearing Carl threaten to call the police, the villagers showed some hesitation.

With the apocalyptic rainstorm about to hit, getting taken to the police station now would be a real problem.

Philip snorted coldly,

"Let's go. We need to watch our boat! Forget about this junk!"

The crowd left with Philip.

Carl sighed,

"Kevin, you can't stay in this village anymore. They've gone crazy. You should leave."

I looked at Carl and asked tentatively,

"Carl, was it you who sent me that text message earlier?"

Carl was stunned. "What text message? I just got home and rushed over when I heard the commotion."

It wasn't Carl?

Who sent that mysterious text warning me to run?

I pushed down my doubts—no time to think about that now.

"Carl, what are you planning to do?"

"I'm going to the city to find Scott. He works as a security guard there. I can't stay in this village another day."

"Perfect, I'm heading to the city too."

I picked up my suitcase.

"Carl, I'll drive you."

I had an apartment in the city. With three days left until the apocalypse, I needed to hurry and convert everything I could into cash.

Carl and I headed toward the village entrance with our simple luggage.

Passing by the dock, Philip and Jasper were directing villagers to load food onto the boat.

Seeing me, Jasper stood on the deck laughing wildly.

"Is this loser running away with his tail between his legs?"

"The rainstorm's coming soon—don't come crawling back begging me to let you on the boat!"

I ignored that scumbag.

They thought being reborn gave them an advantage, not knowing this life wouldn't be a rainstorm apocalypse at all.

I really looked forward to seeing their reaction when they learned the truth.

I drove at full speed and dropped Carl off at the residential complex where Scott Walker worked.

Before leaving, I reminded the father and son.

"Scott, take good care of Carl."

"Once I've built a safe base, I'll bring you both over."

Scott nodded, his face full of gratitude.

"Kevin, you be careful!"

After saying goodbye to Carl, I headed straight for an underground lending company in the city center.

To stockpile supplies for the apocalypse, the more money the better.

Regular banks took too long to process loans. I could only turn to those high-interest but quick-disbursement loan shark companies.

I pushed open the grimy glass door.

When I saw clearly who was sitting behind the desk, my heart jumped to my throat.

Wasn't this Zachary Coleman—the guy who stole my boat in my previous life and threw me into the ocean!
