Chapter 3 The Soul Swapping
Sylvia POV
My blood pumped in anticipation. The feelings and torments I had built up over the years got the better of me.
“But you don't know me? My parents... how does it work?”
He stretched. “You ask a lot of questions, to which there are no right answers. Here's a shot at getting back at those who hurt you. Will you take it or not?”
“What if I agree?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.
“Then the girl named Sylvia dies, and you'll be reborn as someone different, someone far more dangerous.”
I shivered excitedly at the thought of getting revenge, but there was still a lot of doubt in my heart.
He wanted to use my body to explore life before he faced an eternal adversary named Silas.
Even with all my doubt and hesitation in processing his intentions, my rage clouded my judgment.
“Where are your parents?” His voice interrupted my thoughts.
I stared blankly at him without really giving him a reply.
“It's been six hours since the accident. The doctors should have reached out to your people,” he added.
“They are probably too busy to care about an unwanted daughter like me. One less pain in the ass for the Rockefeller's.”
He then took my hands tenderly before staring right through my eyes.
“You don't have to live like this. There's a whole life ahead of you. There is high school prom, college fun, having a kid, living happily ever after.”
He paused and stroked my cheeks. “Nobody cares about you. No one sees you as someone valuable right now. If I manage to come out alive after the bloody night of Silas' arrival, then I'll mark you and make you my eternal bride.”
Mark me, make me his eternal bride. All these words sounded confusing for my brain to comprehend, but there was no turning back now.
“I don't want to be an eternal bride to a total stranger. I don't want anyone marking me,” I blurted out in disapproval.
He then smiled. “Before your accident, before you fell from that bridge, I heard your heartbeat, sensed your fear. The Grim Reaper would have taken you, but I saved you. Don't let it all be in vain.”
As he said those words, the machines began to beep faster and faster.
Just then, the hospital erupted into chaos as my dad, stepmom, Bucky, and Bridget rushed in.
“Quick, it's almost time. You have to choose now. Will you take my body and live as me? It's your last chance to be reborn again!!!”
The moment he shouted, I felt dizzy as an invisible force began to pull me toward my body in the operating theater. Oh no. I couldn't go back to facing Zara and her friends again.
“Yesssss!!!” I stretched forth my hand toward him. “Take my body now!!!”
Then all I felt was darkness. And a cold feeling tickling my fingers.
…………
In less than thirty seconds, my brain fried that instant. It started like electricity pumping through my veins, then a million memories crashed into me at once.
Memories of building the pyramids in Egypt, secrets to the riches hidden in ancient cities, tombs, and wicked flesh-eating creatures devouring my arms, waking up in the underworld and going head-to-head with Dracula and the Grim Reaper, biting into the flesh of Queen Latifa of the West Coast and making a covenant with blood. Draxler, the immortal vampire.
Lives I had lived in the past all unfolded before my eyes, only that this wasn't really my life.
I was already in Draxler's body, and my temperature dropped to 0° as I felt the cold of the environment I was placed in, or maybe it was his body. There wasn't even a heart in there to beat or pump blood like humans would.
Goddamn it, what had I gotten myself into?
But the next feeling was inconvenient and dangerous.
I felt an unexplainable hatred, an unfulfilled desire to devour my enemies.
The hunger within me was insatiable. I thirsted, but not for water, for blood.
My nose picked up all the blood banks in the hospital. My ears could hear the constant beeping of the hospital machines.
But that wasn't the most terrifying feeling. I felt someone. LEE CHAN, an invisible demon living inside me. So this was how Draxler coped?
Peeping into Draxler's memories, this entity had been in him for the past seventy years, ever since the night he traveled to a tomb in Egypt to fight an enemy who took away his first love.
He was murdered in cold blood and cast into a tomb of wicked spirits. Possessed by LEE CHAN, he woke up and unleashed hell on his adversaries.
Now he had lived with this entity ever since that moment.
“Who the hell are you?” LEE CHAN asked. “And what did you do to Draxler's body?”
Then it dawned on me. If I must experience power and live Draxler's life comfortably, I must tame this beast within me.
Or I might just be overwhelmed and controlled by this wicked evil spirit.
