Chapter 4 A Vampire's New Life
Draxler POV
Waking up to the blaring music from the stereo in my penthouse, I gulped down the sixteenth bottle, trying to drown the uncertainty in my heart, but I couldn't get drunk, couldn't shake the feeling of unease gnawing at me.
The phone call last night set my heart on fire. I needed a distraction, a getaway from reality.
Silas's emissary had spoken, and he doesn't make empty promises. He drove me from the capital twelve years ago and established himself as an unshakable force.
I came back to Vanshi Town and continued to rule with calculated precision, but he wouldn't let me be. He had promised to come over to Vanshi and end my reign here.
He proposed we fight at the end of the Festival of Skulls and Bones, a night where he would utterly break me and humiliate me before my subordinates, killing me and taking over my properties.
The world was large enough for both of us to coexist, but anywhere I went, he followed.
As long as Silas hunted me down, my life had no meaning.
As I pondered these thoughts, the door of the penthouse burst open as my servant rushed in.
He gasped nervously before speaking. "Sir, Silas's emissary is in town. He was last spotted entering Perkin Hall close to Vanshi Towers."
For the first time in a long while, my mood lightened up a little.
"Perkin Hall... interesting."
Another subordinate stepped forward.
"Sir, he is only an emissary. Don't do anything rash."
I frowned. "What the hell is wrong with you guys? Who the hell do you all take me for, someone who just kills people for no reason?"
"Respectfully, yes sir," he replied.
I laughed bitterly. "Maybe Silas should have thought about that before sending his messengers to Vanshi."
I slowly rose from my seat and adjusted the cuff of my designer suit.
"Prepare the exclusive truck. We ride for Vanshi Towers."
"Yes, sir."
"I just want to speak with the emissary, nothing serious," I grinned wickedly.
The engine of the truck roared, and within minutes we were on the rainy streets of Vanshi Town.
"Stop the car," I commanded.
"Is there a problem, sir?" one of my guards questioned suspiciously.
I heard her screaming, a voice so delicate I couldn't ignore it. My divine ears picked up her gentle cries.
Then I heard the gang chasing desperately after the fragile damsel.
"Catch her! Catch her!! Catch her!!!" an angry voice roared as the crowd chased after her recklessly along the busy path.
Without giving an explanation to my subordinates, I walked toward the overhead bridge, and then the accident happened in that very second.
And bang! Her body was sent flying over the bridge.
Before my men could stop me, I was already in the middle of the road. I pushed her to safety, then the blaring horn of the truck sounded as it collided with me, sending me flying into the Vanshi signpost.
Distantly, I heard my men screaming my name, Draxler, and then darkness overwhelmed me.
"Here he is, playing that dangerous game with his body," one of my subordinates spoke out exhaustedly.
"This is the third time this year he has purposely killed himself," the other guard murmured.
I heard all they said as pain embraced me, then I gave in to the darkness.
………….
The next few hours were fragments of imagination.
The blaring sounds of sirens, doctors pronouncing me dead, cold lights from the operating table, then Sylvia.
She was a pretty confused ghost standing in the hallway, staring at her body. The sight looked so familiar.
I listened to her plea for vengeance. I watched her vent her frustration. Then we made a pact to switch souls, but mine was done selfishly.
This was the fourth dangerous pact I was entering into in my lengthy years of existence.
The last one was done with LEE CHAN, and ever since he entered me, we've coexisted with our big egos. He made me heal slower and took away some of my vampire tendencies.
He is also a genius in science, astrology, and trickery. In turn, his legend continued as he possessed and lived through me for ages.
………….
The pact was made. All I could feel was ultimate relief. No voices rang in my head, no enemy, no thirst for blood, no hunger to bite into human flesh. My head was clear as day.
At first, I wanted to stand up and order my men around, then it hit me.
I was no longer the immortal vampire Draxler. I was just a lowly little teenager who died after an accident, a victim of bullying.
So this was what it felt like to be human, to be weak, fragile, and breakable.
Then suddenly a thousand memories crashed into me, from her childhood until she became a teenager.
The sorrowful poems she wrote hit hard.
"Oh, I don't mean to make you cry, but when I die, just box me up. I need no stones, no names, no titles."
"I'm a piece of shit that would be forgotten anyway. My mind is a war zone, at least I pray I find peace now in death."
"If I die no matter what, don't bring me back here. It's dark here, and I'm scared of the dark."
Her words poked me like needles.
This girl was indeed pathetic. Thoughts of her suicidal attempts, her crying in bathrooms, her humiliation, teachers ignoring her wounds, students laughing and pointing fingers. I clenched my fist. No wonder this girl wanted revenge.
Somehow I felt alive. No wounds or bruises. I could even hear people's whispers from miles away. I didn't know if it was the soul swap, but I was totally healed from the accident.
I slowly turned my head toward the waiting room, where I saw her parents, her stepmom, and two children seated impatiently.
Oh, these weren't children. They were teenagers. They were supposed to be my age, but I was an adult in a kid's body.
None of them even cared that their daughter was in here battling life and death.
Patricia, Mr. Stuffin's wife and Sylvia's supposed stepmother, cursed under her breath.
"How long do they have to keep us waiting in this room? Your daughter is just a spoiled, entitled brat. She was supposed to be in school, but she was in an accident in Vanshi Towers."
"Language, woman," Mr. Stuffin reprimanded his wife. "The little girl might be a pain in the ass, but she was in an accident. Respect that."
Patricia frowned. "She's a stubborn child, baby. You've been too soft on her. Now see what you've caused."
I could hear them bickering from the waiting room. My ears picked up every word they said.
My eyes darkened that instant. This was the ill treatment Sylvia had to face on a daily basis.
My smile widened into a wicked grin. "I'll make you all pay eventually," I muttered.
