Chapter 2
“Ruby, what right do you have to kick us out?”
Lily didn’t leave. Instead, she clung tighter to David’s arm, her posture turning even more brazen.
"This villa is in David's name," she said sharply. "The one who should leave is you."
My entire body shook.
This house. This life. Everything David had was built on my family’s money and connections.
He was my husband and the man my father had built up from nothing.
And now, the woman he was cheating with… my own sister… was trying to throw me out of my own home.
David must have finally realized Lily had gone too far. He shoved her hand away and turned to me in a panic.
“Ruby, please, calm down. After everything we’ve been through, you can’t let one misunderstanding—”
“Misunderstanding?” I cut him off sharply, my voice ice-cold. “You kissed my sister on live television in front of the entire world. What exactly about that is a misunderstanding?”
“David, do you even have any shame left?”
My words made his face flush red and pale in waves, color draining and returning as if he couldn’t decide which emotion to settle on.
At that moment, my phone started ringing nonstop.
My parents. His parents.
Everyone had seen the video.
I ignored them.
The landline rang next. The villa was filled with the sound of ringing phones like an alarm going off again and again.
Lily sneered.
“You really think sending that video changes anything?”
“Mom and Dad have always favored me. And David’s parents? They’ve wanted him to divorce you for a long time anyway. You can’t even have children. What kind of wife are you?”
“Can’t have a child…”
Those words struck like a poisoned needle, sinking deep into my chest.
Three years of marriage. I wasn’t unable to have children. I simply hadn’t wanted to have one this early.
David had always said he respected my decision that we should take our time, enjoy our life together before thinking about children.
And like a fool, I believed that was love. That it was understanding between us.
Only now did I realize that, in his family’s eyes, I had already become nothing more than a woman who “couldn’t give them a child.”
And David…
He had never once spoken up for me.
“Lily, enough!”
David finally snapped, unable to hold it in any longer. He shouted at her, his voice cracking with panic more than anger.
He was probably afraid she’d say something even worse, something that would push me completely over the edge.
Then he turned back to me, forcing out a smile that looked more like a grimace.
“Ruby… this is between us, okay? Let’s handle it privately, as husband and wife.”
“Let her leave first. I’ll stay. I’ll explain everything to you.”
“I swear, it was just a moment of weakness. That’s all.”
I looked at his face, so desperate, so fake and felt a wave of nausea rise in my throat.
“Fine.” I nodded slowly. “Then make her leave.”
David froze for a second, then immediately lit up with relief.
“Lily, go. Now. Just go!”
He grabbed her arm and started pushing her toward the door.
But Lily refused to move. She clung tightly to the doorframe.
“I’m not leaving!” she screamed. “David, you can’t throw me out! You promised you’d divorce her and marry me!”
“You liar!”
The two of them struggled at the entrance, the scene turning ugly and chaotic.
And then— The front door swung open again.
My parents and David’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Evans, had all arrived at once.
The moment they saw the tangled mess at the door, and the frozen image still playing on the living room screen, all four of their faces darkened instantly.
“You disgraceful bastard!”
My father trembled with rage as he stormed forward and slapped David hard across the face.
“You’ve brought shame to the entire Wilson family!”
