Chapter 2
“Leyna, the energy crystal in my house is broken. The power keeps cutting out at night,” Claire said with a smile, casually adjusting the wall-mounted thermostat in the living room like she owned the place.
“Alpha Jack was worried about me living alone, so he asked me to move in here. He said you wouldn’t mind. Oh, and he changed the door lock code to my birthday—said you’re terrible with numbers.”
My eyes dropped to the strap of her slip dress. It had slipped completely off her shoulder, exposing clear Alpha bite marks on her pale skin. Her collarbone was still flushed. She hadn’t even brushed her hair—it clung damply to her neck.
“Leyna’s always the considerate one,” she added, opening the fridge and grabbing a bottle of sparkling water. “She’d never make a fuss.”
I turned my head toward the couch. Alpha Jack was sitting there, half-dressed. His shirt was buttoned wrong, his pants were still undone, and there was a dried stain on the cushion from his release.
He stood up and walked toward me with open arms. “Why did you leave without saying anything? You’re eight months pregnant. Your hormone levels are unstable. What if you ran into a rogue?”
He had sex with Claire in our home and locked me out. Then he changed the door lock code. And told Claire I wouldn’t mind.
Alpha Jack never drank milk. He always said it was too greasy and smelled strange. But tonight, he personally poured a glass and stirred it with a plastic spoon.
“Your bones are too fragile to carry a strong Alpha-blooded pup. The doctor added a placenta-strengthening formula—it’ll also help stabilize your mental link,” he said, handing me the glass.
“I don’t want to drink it,” I replied coldly.
“Leyna, don’t be difficult. This is for you and the pup. Don’t make a scene this late.”
Then he pressed the glass to my lips and forced the warm, thick milk into my mouth. It was sickly sweet, with a bitter medicinal aftertaste. I swallowed before I could react. My eyelids grew heavy almost immediately.
In my blurred vision, I saw two figures entangled near me. The living room light was still on. The AC vent hummed faintly. Then—darkness.
A voice sliced through the haze in my mind like a blade:
[Disappointing, Leyna. You just drank it. They didn’t even bother to hide the drug—and you didn’t even resist.]
“I… I’m too tired…” I whispered in my mind. Tears slid down my cheeks. “I don’t have the strength…”
[Tired? You think passing out will protect you? You think lying still means they’ll spare you?]
[Look at Alpha Jack’s eyes. Who is he looking at? He’s not looking at you—he’s waiting for you to collapse. Waiting for Claire to join in.]
“Please… stop talking…”
The next morning, I ached all over—especially between my thighs. I could barely sit up.
Alpha Jack had left early for a pack meeting. There were untouched breakfast dishes on the table. A few crumbs on Claire’s side. She hadn’t come downstairs yet.
I dragged myself up and retrieved the backup phone hidden under the flowerpot on the balcony. The recording I set up last night had worked.
My hands trembled as I opened the file.
In the footage, Alpha Jack kissed Claire from the front door all the way to the sofa, then onto the carpet beside where I lay. I didn’t move once.
“Alpha Jack,” Claire purred in the video, “watching you pretend she’s still your mate makes me sick.”
Jack kicked me. I flinched slightly on camera. He laughed coldly. “She’s just a container. A womb. I’m keeping the mate bond intact so she won’t try to run. She’s dumb and easy to control.”
Claire leaned in and whispered near his ear, “You’re sure you gave her the Mooncalm Elixir? That stuff keeps her knocked out, right? What if she wakes up?”
Alpha Jack nodded. “It’s from the Hunter Legion’s lab. She’ll be out for at least ten hours.”
In the next frame, Claire started pulling off my clothes. “I want to take a few pictures—just in case she disobeys later.”
Alpha Jack propped up my limp body, arranging me while snapping photos. They posed me like a lifeless puppet, adjusting my limbs as if I were a doll.
They didn’t stop until they were done. And I never moved once.
I couldn’t watch anymore. I shut the video off.
Without hesitation, I took out the termination medication the doctor had given me and swallowed it dry.
Cathy’s voice struck through my mind like a blade of ice:
[What are you doing, Leyna? This is your idea of revenge? Ending it all with a miscarriage?]
“I… I just want to get the pup out,” I whispered. “It’s Claire’s embryo. It was never mine…”
[So that’s it? They humiliated you, drugged you, violated you—and now you’re crawling away like a broken mutt?]
“I have nothing… no name, no rank… I couldn’t even get into my own home. They can destroy me with a flick of a finger.”
[You are not prey. You are Luna. You are Silverfang’s Luna. I am your wolf soul. You weren’t born to please them—you were born to rip out their throats.]
“I’ve already lost…”
At that moment, I heard Alpha Jack’s voice from the kitchen:
“What are you taking?”
I looked up and smiled faintly. “Just calcium supplements.”
