The D Day
ELIZABETH’s POV
‘What have I done again, why is he staring at me like I stole from him?’
I thought as his eyes lit up and my face turned red.
He moved closer to me and I almost fell.
“You wanted to embarrass me in front of my mum?”
His voice was sharp and loud, and I got scared.
“But what did I——”
Just immediately, his mum pushed the door wide open and when he saw her he quickly hugged me. I was still in a state of shock so I didn't even know what to do.
“Why did you slam the door like that?”
His mum asked, she looked scared as if she saw a ghost.
“You see, at times my girlfriend loves playing rough.”
I pushed myself away from his hug, calmed his mother down, and told her everything was fine, his mum left the room.
When Sebastian turned around and took off his shirt there was a big mark on his back. I wondered what it was.
We never spoke about his attitude earlier, we just acted like it didn't happen.
We finished eating and came back upstairs to sleep.
“Sleep on the floor.”
He said without having any sign of pity or remorse on his face
It was tiled, and we all know it gets very cold at night.
“Can't I just sleep on the bed? I promise to stay very far away from you.”
I begged him sincerely.
He went outside and came back with six duvets and threw them at me.
“Any more complaints?”
He pressed his lips into a thin line and frowned at the sight of me.
I took the duvets, arranged them, and slept on the floor.
It was day 4 in the house and we woke up to chaos.
His mother fainted early that morning and was rushed to the hospital. We went there to meet her, and she explained to Sebastian how sick she had been and it only got worse.
She told him she needed a favor from him and that it was her dying and last wish. Sabastian told his mother that he would do anything for her and she made him swear on her life.
“I need you to get married to Elizabeth.”
She said calmly as she held my hand and slightly lifted one eyebrow teasingly.
I honestly first thought I was hearing things, but then I looked at his mum and realized that she truly said it.
“Mum ——”
Sebastian quickly said in defense but she cut him off.
“You just swore on my life and I don't have much time left anyway so do this for me, what is the big deal? She's your girlfriend anyway.”
“Mum, of course, I will marry her, we have been talking about it, so very soon you will hear from us.”
“Sabastian, I need you both to get married a day after tomorrow “
She turned around and looked at me as if expecting me to say something.
I stood there, unable to move or talk, my stomach churned, and my hands trembling, I was struggling to find the right words, and the room felt heavy with tension.
She started crying and held Sebastian’s hand.
“I already made all the arrangements. I just need you both to agree.”
She said, struggling not to cry and Sebastian looked lost.
He looked at me but I was completely numb, I didn't even know what to say or how to react.
Pretending to be his girlfriend was one thing but marrying him was another, marriage is sacred.
“Mum, we will get married if that is what you want.”
He said to her confidently. His voice was thick and sharp.
His mum stood up from the patient's bed and hugged her son. She also came to her, patted my head, and gave me a peck.
Sabastian dragged me to one of the empty rooms in the hospital and asked me to narrate my story to him about why I chose to come with him.
Why was he suddenly interested in hearing my story? He never asked me anything about myself before.
I narrated everything from the start to him, from my dad to my brother, I tried to keep everything short but I guess I had so much to say.
When I was done he told me he had a girlfriend but there were some situations.
“Listen to me Elizabeth, if you agree to marry me then I will give you a spot as an intern in my hospital to learn whatever you want, I will take care of your brother's health and I’d still pay you for the job as agreed, you can get a better house for them with that money.”
He sounded like he was trying to convince me or something.
“You just said you have a girlfriend, so how can we get married? That's not possible, I don't think I'm in for that drama sir.”
I rejected and looked away.
“Well, it's your choice, but if you walk out that door today without accepting to marry me then all the deal we had is off including the money we agreed on, and trust me to make your life worse than it is, and if anything were to happen to my mother because of you trust me to take away everyone close to you.”
He sounded and looked so serious, I was in a trap, I had to choose between risking my family's lives or marrying another woman’s man.
“I will marry you.”
I said without hesitation because I realised that at that point I had sold my life to this man.
I gave him a forced smile and bit my lower lip.
“Now that's a good doll”
He patted my shoulders and walked away.
He told his mum and we all went home because according to her she was fine and could go home.
Arrangements were made and his mum told me to invite my people, I told everything to Felicia and she kept gasping out of too much surprise.
It was the day of the wedding and I was so nervous, my mum and my brother needed an explanation of why I was getting married so suddenly and to Sabastian Shelby!.
It was as shocking to me as it was to them.
I mean just last week I was an ordinary girl living in a slum and now in just seven days my life was taking another turn, I was getting married to one of the world's richest and most popular men.
I explained everything to my family and my mum cried, she never wanted such a marriage for me.
We were all dressed up and I sure looked like royalty, and my mother looked like a queen. I became very emotional when I saw how beautiful they made her look and I promised myself never to regret my decision.
Sabastian entered the dressing room and told everyone to go outside and that he needed to speak to me.
“You definitely look the character, but just one last thing, I call all the shots in this marriage.”
He said as he grabbed my neck and lifted his hand.
